2 We are Walking by Faith What does stewardship mean to us as Christians? Some may say our obligations or duties and others might say to manage something. These are both true, but in our hearts, we should be good stewards of our church and dedicate ourselves to the support of the missions and ministries of Suffolk Christian Church What greater time to grasp the opportunity to show your support for your church than Thanksgiving and Christmas? Take a moment and reflect on the things that you have to be thankful for in your life. I hope that Jesus Christ, Son of God and our Savior is at the top of your list. Think of that Holy Night of his birth and what that means to each of you as we celebrate it this year. With your help and generosity, we will continue programs such as the Food Pantry, Coats for the Community, Night Stay Ministry (shelter for the homeless), and new projects including our Prayer Garden and Phone Tree which will be used to notify members of the church of upcoming events, prayer needs and other information. You can designate where your donations are to be used if desired. We are Walking by Faith and have every expectation that you will experience the heartfelt joy associated with giving to your church and supporting the Christian engagement of those in need. You can take advantage of this opportunity by mailing your offering to: Suffolk Christian Church, 216 N. Main Street, Suffolk, VA or by our Suffolk Christian Church website ( which offers PayPal for your convenience. To take advantage of this feature on our website, locate the donate button at the bottom left corner. Please direct any questions to Dae Nixon, Financial Secretary. You may reach her at (757) or by at dae.nixon@suffolkchristian.org. With Jesus help, let us continually offer our sacrifice of praise to God by proclaiming the glory of his name. Don t forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. This is done by filling shoeboxes with gift items for needy children all across the world. These shoeboxes are then distributed to these children. In addition, when the child receives their shoebox, they also receive Christian literature and are able to participate in a discipleship program. What a wonderful way we can help deliver the blessed hope of Christmas to millions of precious little ones around the world. When you pick up a shoebox to fill, you will be provided with a detailed how-toguide on filling your shoebox. There will also be a list of suggestions to include in your shoeboxes. Each box must be accompanied with a $7.00 fee. This fee covers shipping costs, as well as helps provide the Christian literature and also helps towards the discipleship program. The Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be available for you to pick up beginning Sunday, October 23rd. Your filled box along with your $7.00 fee will be due back to church on Sunday, November 13th. If you do not wish to fill a box but would like to make a donation for shipping, please see Priscilla Bunch as soon as possible. Thank you for your support of this fun and meaningful mission project!! If you should have any questions, please contact Priscilla or pbunch1@charter.net Right: We had an absolutely amazing time in Haiti. It was so inspirational to see people who encounter unimaginable hardships have so much faith. Their hope and love was a blessing to experience. I m sure both Bracey and I would be so blessed if we could go back in June.. 4 Rev. Michael D. Halley Pastor My Dear Friends, In 1898, British politician and statesman Joseph Chamberlain wrote, "I think that you will all agree that we are living in most interesting times. I never remember myself a time in which our history was so full, in which day by day brought us new objects of interest, and, let me say also, new objects for anxiety." Mr. Chamberlain may well have been writing about our own times! In recent months, particularly due to our national election cycle, life here in America has certainly not been dull! My question is always this: What is a Christian to do (or think, or believe) in times like these? Or, as the popular saying goes, What would Jesus do? Jesus addressed our anxieties in the Sermon on the Mount when he told us to "seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things [everything we need to sustain life] will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." I also take great comfort from this, in Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. So let us take heart that our God does not waver and that nothing ever happens that takes God by surprise. Let us hold on to our faith, and let us love others as we love ourselves. God bless you!
