2 My Dear Friends, I like e mon of November, don't you? For one ing, Veterans Day is celebrated on e 11 of e mon, and at is always a special day for me. But e main reason I like November is Thanksgiving Day. What a great holiday! And not only because of all e good food! Thanksgiving is an American holiday celebration in which everyone can find a way to participate. No matter e religious belief (or none at all), no matter e enic background, no matter e socio-economic status... everyone can give anks. The Bible says, in 1 Chronicles 16:24, "Oh, give anks to e Lord, for he is good; His love and his kindness go on forever." So, let's make November an entire mon of giving anks. And at e end of e mon we all will be asked to widen at spirit of anksgiving in making a commitment to e strong future of our church (one of e top ings on my "anks list"!). God bless you all, Circle News Michael Pastor s Column Rev. Michael D. Halley Pastor The Afternoon Circle will meet on Monday, November 6, at 1 pm in e Saints Alive Center. The devotional leader will be Shirley Talbert. If you would like to be a part of e Afternoon Circle, please join em at day for a time of devotion and fellowship. The Care and Concern Committee had a reorganization meeting on Monday, September 18, 2017 at church. The Committee will now work as a Team wi Facilitators heading e separate groups. The Co-Facilitators of e Care and Concern Team are Elaine Abernay and Claudia Salmon. Phone Facilitator for e Call Ministry is Irvin Salmon; Card Facilitator is Kim Parr; and Funeral Reception Co-Facilitators are Bobbie Chapman and Wanda Thorsen. Three new groups have been formed wiin Care and Concern and one is at of Spiritual Resource Leaders, and ey are Beverly McGahee and Shirley Talbert. Church members may have a special need or request for prayer or just need to talk wi someone and is group will help wi at. Anoer group is for Nursing Home Residents and Amy and Jennifer Hott are e Facilitators for is, and e last group is for minor home repairs in which a church member may need assistance wi a minor repair in eir home. Beverly McGahee and Evelyn Jones are working on a sign-up sheet where members can sign up to be responsible for one week of being a contact Person for Care and Concern. They hope to have a new person for each of e 52 weeks in a year so e Contact Person would be responsible for only one week in a year s time. The Team decided to resume e weekly meals to our shut-ins. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God s love in a tangible way to needy children around e world, and togeer wi e local church worldwide, to share e Good News of Jesus Christ. This is done by filling shoeboxes wi gift items for needy children all across e world. These shoeboxes are en distributed to ese children. In addition, when e child receives eir shoebox, ey also receive Christian literature and are able to participate in a discipleship program. What a wonderful way we can help deliver e blessed hope of Christmas to millions of precious little ones around e world. When you pick up a shoebox to fill, you will be provided wi a detailed how-to-guide on filling your shoebox. There will also be a list of suggestions to include in your shoeboxes. Please make sure you look over e suggestions is year because ey have made some changes. I called Samaritan s Purse is year to ask if we could specify where we would like our boxes to be delivered. I was told we could not specify. I was told a story about a box I wanted to share wi you. A box was inspected at e distribution center and it had wool socks in e box. The box went to a warm country, however, e box was given to a little boy who had badly burned feet and all he could wear was socks. So, yes, God has his hand in where ese boxes are delivered. Each box must be accompanied wi a $9.00 fee. This fee covers shipping costs, as well as helps provide e Christian literature and also helps towards e discipleship program. The Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be available for you to pick up beginning Sunday, October 22nd. Your filled box along wi your $9.00 fee will be due back to church on Sunday, November 12.
