2 St. John the Guardian of Our Lady The Real Meaning of Eternal Life Dear friends, I would like to share with all of you, the meaning of heaven and eternal life according to the sacred scriptures. Today the readings and the gospel speak about heaven, even though the word heaven is not mention in it. We see that Jesus appears to his disciples after his resurrection and in all the moments the disciples were able to recognize, the real physical body of Christ. Last week, the risen Jesus made a line for doubting Thomas and invited him to put his fingers into the nail holes that were left in his hands, not only for Thomas to know that it was really Jesus but to let Thomas know that Jesus, even in his risen state, still had a body. The disciples on the road to Emmaus recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread and in today s gospel we see Jesus sharing with his disciples after resurrection. The scriptures are meant to let us know about Jesus risen body and also, to let us know that is what our risen bodies will be like, too. When we die, and we go to heaven we are not only spiritual souls, we will have our bodies, not in the same human temporary conditions we have now, but we will have our bodies that people will be able to recognize and see. Like the disciples recognized Jesus in the gospel, our family and friends will also be able to recognize us. This is a privilege and a gift from god to us, to have the possibility to share in the same resurrection of Christ. We have the hope to see one another in heaven one day, and this is a real possibility. Maybe some people have stopped coming to church on Sundays, because they stop believing in heaven. But, I can tell you dear friends, the real joy of going to heaven, start by coming every Sunday to praise the lord who has given to us the gift of heaven with eternal salvation and happiness. We are currently looking for volunteers to do various activities and spend time with our residents at Corcoran House. 4 First Communion Update Our Mandatory First Communion Rehearsal is Saturday, April 28 th from 9-11 AM. (Drop off will be in the Hall at 9:00 AM and pick up will be in the UPPER Church at 11:00 AM. We will joyously celebrate First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 5 th at 10 AM. (Children arrive at 9 AM for group photo and prayer.) Please remember to keep our First Communion children and their families in your prayers. First Communion Reunion Mass Sunday, May 6 at 9 AM All First Communion Families are invited to a special First Communion Reunion Mass on Sunday, May 6 at 9 AM. Children will be presented to our Parish and they will receive their Holy Scapulars and their First Communion Certificates. Mass will be followed by refreshments in the Hall for all families. Children are asked to wear their First Communion dresses/outfits and arrive to the Chapel at 8:30 AM for prayer and instruction. Can t wait! May God bless you all at this very special time. 7 th Level Living Stations of the Cross Thank You We would like to thank the 7 th Level students for their beautiful and moving presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross. We would also like to give a big thank you to our 7 th Level Catechists Mike DiVerdi, Marita Wallace, Jackie Larose, Maureen Quill, and Mary Jane Maloof for their devotion to our students and for all of their help making our play such a success. Also, thank you to Patsy Mollica and Irene McNally for offering such perfect music for our presentation. Thank you to Rebecca Cronin for help with costumes and clean up and to Catechists John O Malley, Janice Donahue, and Diane Melanson for their assistance with attendance. All children, grades K-5, are invited to our Catholic Vacation Bible Camp during the week of Monday, July 30 Friday, August 3, from 9-12 at St. John s Gym. The cost is $10 per child or a maximum of $30 per family. Registration forms can be found downstairs in the CCD rack in the Hall or at the entrances of the church. We will have games, crafts, singing, bible stories, and activities. It s going to be so much fun! We are also in need of catechist/ teen/parent volunteers.
