2 St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Dear Friends, The process of secularization, by rendering absolute the concepts of self-determination and autonomy, has led to the growth of the demand for euthanasia in many countries as an ideological affirmation of man s will to power over life. This has also led to considering the voluntary interruption of human existence as a choice of civilization. It is clear that where life is valid not for its dignity, but for its efficiency and productivity, all this becomes possible...without a trustworthy hope to help him confront pain and death, man cannot live well and maintain a confident perspective before his future. This is one of the services that the Church is called to make to contemporary man. Authentic pastors are those who do not abandon man to himself, nor leave him in the grip of his disorientation and his errors, but with truth and mercy bring him back to find his true face in goodness. Therefore every action aimed at taking the man by the hand, when he has lost the sense of his dignity and his destiny, to lead him trustfully to rediscover the loving paternity of God, his good destiny and the ways to build a more humane world, is authentically pastoral. (Address, 26 January 2018). ~ Pope Francis Donations Needed for Steubenville Retreat This summer, we will be bringing a group of nine (9) teenagers to the The Life Teen Steubenville East Youth Conference/Retreat offered by Franciscan University of Steubenville! The cost of the trip is $275 per student. As you can imagine, this cost is out of reach for many families. We will be accepting donations in any amount to help defray the cost of the retreat during the next few weeks. If you would like to donate, please bring your donation to Mass on June 30/July 1 or mail it to the rectory at 149 Chestnut Street, Clinton, MA. If you would like to make out a check, please be sure to reference the Steubenville Retreat on the subject line. Checks may be made payable to: St. John the Guardian of Our Lady. It is a special Sunday when we ask families to bring non-perishable foods to church. If you cannot do it on a particular Sunday, Food Care Donation Boxes are left at entrances to the Parish. Our most needed items are: Peanut Butter, Canned Fruit, Spaghetti & Spaghetti Sauce. Thank you for your help, your donations make it possible for us to serve the less fortunate in our community. St. John s Gym 149 Chestnut St - Thursdays: 4 6PM The CARE Food Pantry has been selected AGAIN to be a part of the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program! We really appreciate all the support we received during our last round. Thank you! We are so happy to know we can count on you to go out and buy a few more of the Fight Hunger bags during the month of July at the Hannaford store located in Clinton. Don t forget, they only cost $2.50 and we get $1.00 for every bag purchased! Thank you so much for your continued support of the food pantry.

3 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality. (2 CORINTHIANS 8:14) We are responsible not only for our own lives, but for the lives of those around us. It is important that we not only grow, nurture and share our gifts; but that we also teach our children and encourage others to do the same. This is the communal aspect of our Catholic faith. We are the Body of Christ. We are called to be dependent on each other and not live in isolation.
