2 St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Dear Friends, If your faith, you feel, is only the size of a mustard seed, you still could say to a sycamore tree be uprooted and planted into the sea and it would obey you. This is the message of Jesus encouraging us to keep our faith active, even if we feel it is not strong or only the size of a tiny seed. It is a call to believe in Jesus, absorb and share His Words with those who follow Him, and to prayerfully receive Him into your life each morning, day and night. The Evil One does not want you to do this. The world does not encourage it. Public opinion and social acceptance refute it. But know this easy denial by our society will lessen us, and those who accept this unthinking approach will miss the peace, joy and grace that the Risen Lord offers to each of us every day. Slow down, think often of Jesus words, turn your sins over to Him to be free, and trust that He walks with you. The energy, serenity, and friendship of Jesus will be yours as you follow Him, and as you make time weekly to receive His Body and Blood. Easter is not only a great day, but it is a great everyday reality given to us by Our Lord. It is not just for some of us, but for all of us. Receive Him, stay close to Him, and know that He has come to give all of us a Peace the world cannot give. Have a Happy Easter. Sincerely yours in Christ, Father Nally, Father Henry, Father Ray, Deacon Bill, Deacon George and our parish staff Readings for March 25, 2018 Sunday: Mk 11:1-10 or Jn 12:12-16/Is 50:4-7/Ps 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, [2a]/Phil 2:6-11/Mk 14:1--15:47 or 15:1-39 Thanks to all our parishioners who have made their gift to the 2018 Partners in Charity Appeal. 4 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, As the grieving women walked to the tomb in the pre-dawn darkness of Easter Sunday, their companion was not only grief but worry. How would they remove the stone that blocked the tomb so they could anoint Jesus body? When they arrived at the tomb the women found the stone removed. To their amazement, they also found much more an angel and the announcement that Jesus had been raised from the dead! Overjoyed, the women ran to announce the good news to the disciples. That evening, two of the disciples were leaving Jerusalem on the road to Emmaus. Grief and disappointment hung over them as they discussed the events of the last three days. Just as worry about the stone distracted the women from recalling Jesus promise, the events of Good Friday, shattering their hopes, prevented the disciples from believing the women s report. Many times worries and disappointment over the immediate events of life cause us distraction. When that happens, do not forget Christ s promises. Do not forget history s greatest event, Christ s resurrection. The women s worry about the stone proved to be a trifle. God would move the stone. The expectations of the disciples on the road to Emmaus were inconsequential when compared to God s plan fulfilled in Jesus. When the angel told the women that Christ s promise was fulfilled, they were overjoyed. When Jesus enlightened the disciples about the prophecies of Scripture, their hearts burned. The women s worry and the disciples disappointments were utterly dispelled by the joy of the Resurrection. May we live in the light of Easter full of hope and anticipation. May we never let our worries or disappointments distract us from the realization that God s love provides us with the means to overcome every fear and to live in the confidence that God s promises will exceed our most fervent hopes. With every prayerful best wish for a joyous Easter, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester Adorers are needed for Mondays at 7 a.m., Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Fridays at 8 a.m., 5 p.m. & 6 p.m. For more information, call Sue Belfield at Divine Mercy Sunday Celebration Next Sunday, April 8, is Divine Mercy Sunday.
