4 South Pacific is a musical composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein. The plot of the musical is based on James A. Michener s book Tales of the South Pacific and centers on an American nurse stationed on a South Pacific island during World War II, who falls in love with a middle-aged French plantation owner but struggles to accept his mixed-raced children. The issue of racial prejudice is explored throughout the musical with songs such as Bali Ha i, I m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair, Some Enchanted Evening, There is Nothing Like a Dame, Younger Than Springtime, and I m in Love With a Wonderful Guy. I have twenty-five tickets for this marvelous performance, and if you need a suggestion for a Christmas gift, buy a ticket now and enjoy the fun. We are to arrive at the theatre, 7701 Paradise Lane, Peoria, by noon on Thursday, December 7. The meal is served first and the musical begins at 2:00. It will end at approximately 4:30. Appointments are made for a 30-minute consultation by calling the church office This is a free event sponsored by the Health & Welfare Team with Parish Nurse at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church. Special Invitation - The Mission Committee invites you to save Monday, November 20, 2017 for a special presentation by Desiree Segura-April, the Resource Person for Children-at- Risk-Ministries, for Iglesia Evangelica Metodista de Nicaragua, Her husband, Osias, serves as the Regional Coordinator of Curriculum and Small Group Leadership Development for Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala. They live in Nicaragua with their son, Nikko. The Iglesia Metodista de Nicaragua is comprised of twenty small churches located mainly around the capitol city of Managua in poor neighborhoods. Global Ministries missionaries have served for decades in Nicaragua as leaders for development projects, but they are the first missionaries sent to work directly with the church in congregational and leadership development, focusing on children-at-risk- ministries and small group leadership development. The challenges are many since poverty deeply affects the people, and Nicaragua is the second poorest country in Latin America. The Segura-Aprils have an exciting, interesting story to share with you and others. There will be a lunch and plenty of time to ask questions after the presentation. What is Sidewalk Sunday School? The Sidewalk Ministry focuses on teaching urban children and their families the basic fundamentals of Christianity, teaching empowerment through Christ to turn away from negative community influences that face them, and to turn their hearts, minds and actions toward a lifestyle that contains promise and hope for the future. Their mission is to help the unchurched children, youth, gang members, homeless people, family members and anyone else, hear that there is someone who loves them, who wants a personal relationship with them and someone who considers them God's most precious child. This street ministry is for those who have heard and those who need to hear again, the Name and Love of Jesus Christ. Children and families are visited each week by their personal visitation team. Please remember these needy people during this holiday season and we celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas together.

7 Sidewalk Sunday School Brings Christmas Happiness The Mission Committee invites you to fill a bag with gifts for the children of Sidewalk Sunday School. The gift bags will be distributed at Sidewalk sites throughout the valley this December. In many cases, these will be the only Christmas gifts the children receive. To make this enjoyable job a little easier, the Mission Committee will supply the bags, and all you have to do is have fun shopping for gifts a child would love. Christmas bags will be passed out at church services October and November 4-5. You may pick up as many bags as you want, along with an attached gift tag and sheet of instructions and suggestions. Ages you will shop for are 3-4, 5-7, or 8-10 and either for a boy or girl. The deadline for returning the filled bags is November 19. Thank you for making a child happy this Christmas. Deb Phillips, Mission Committee STEPHEN MINISTRY And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
