We are so glad you decided to worship with us today and extend you a very special welcome. Please stop by the welcome center outside the sanctuary following worship so we can get to know you. Dennis Gone Pastor Dennis will be gone to spend the holidays with his family from December 25 through January 3. If you have a pastoral emergency, please call Leigh Anne at and she will arrange for a pastor to assist you. Office Closed Please be aware that the office will be closed on Tuesday, January 1. Diaper Drive The United Methodist Women will be collecting diapers to help families at the Midvale Family Homeless Shelter and Domestic Violence Shelters. Between January 13 & 27, please bring diapers, diaper cream or wipes. Or, you can put diaper change in the baby bottle and we will shop for you. Let s try to collect 2500 diapers that s the average number a child needs each year. Thanks! 5 New Study Opportunity The Women's Bible Study group will begin a new study series Wednesday, January 16. Simon Peter by Adam Hamilton shows us how an ordinary fisherman struggled with doubt and fear but left everything to follow Jesus. We will discover how we, too, have special gifts and abilities God can use to make a difference today. Please join us in the Wesley room at 9:30 each Wednesday. Contact Deb Hale at if you are interested in attending. Young Ringers Positions are available in both young ringers programs. Joyful Ringers are grades 6-12 with some musical experience. They practice Sundays, 3:30-4:30 pm, starting again on January 6th. The Beginner Bells will begin rehearsals on January 7, 5-6 pm. This is for grades 3-12 who don t have musical experience. 6 Youth Corner Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 12:00 pm Jr. & Sr. High Youth and Parent Mission Trip Meeting We are going on a Mission Trip this summer. We have been invited to join the youth group at Christ United Methodist Church on their Mission Trip to Portland Oregon, June 28 July 6, Deposits will be due very soon, so please plan on joining us to learn more about our exciting summer adventures. Youth Service Project The UEUMYs, Jr. High, and Sr. High Youth Groups are collecting items for Y.A.C.K. Packs, the Rescue Mission, and the Youth Resource Center. The youth will be assembling care kits on January 6. A list of the needed items can be found in the newsletter and is on the basket in the Fellowship Hall. Please have all donations brought to the church no later than December 31. Thank you. Sanctuary Doors Please keep the doors to the sanctuary closed when heat is running and open when A/C is running. Inspiring Donations Every time you shop at Smith s, the grocery will put aside funds for Hilltop missions. But not if you haven t gone online to register that you want Hilltop to be your charity. HUMC s organization number is Please register HUMC to receive this little bonus; it s very easy. Crossroads Thrift Store Donations A few actions on your part would be helpful: 1) if you have a carload of stuff to donate, please go ahead and drive it down to store and unload it there W Indiana Ave, SLC. If it s a few items, feel free to leave them at the church. 2) Please bag the donations that you re going to put in the bins. Thank you! Nametags Wearing our nametags helps all of us get to know each other better. If you have a nametag, please wear it during worship and fellowship. If you don t have one, we will be happy to provide one for you. Please get a note to the office to order you one. 6

7 Paper Recycling Bin The paper recycling bin benefits our Troop 411. Gift wrap and fancy cards are not recyclable so please don t discard any into the bin. Don t throw any other recyclables other than paper in the bin. Please break down your boxes so more can fit in. Keep the lid down so the contents stay dry. Hilltop Children's Choir Hilltop Children's Choir rehearsals have begun! Children in grades 1-5 are always welcome to join us for fun, hands-on rehearsals on Thursday evenings, 6:15-7:00pm. We incorporate percussion, Orff, handchimes, and drama as we learn about music and explore our voices. Contact director Katie Houts with any questions: katie.houts@gmail.com Prayer Requests You may request prayers for yourself or a loved one to be lifted up during worship. Look for prayer request cards in the pew racks. Fill one out and hand it to Pastor Dennis or the liturgist during the Passing of the Peace. He will share appropriate prayer requests during the blessings and concerns portion of worship. The prayer requests will be added to the prayer chain on Monday and included in the next Sunday bulletin (unless you mark that you d like it kept private). You may also the office during the week. Order Chancel Flowers Honor a loved one, celebrate a special occasion, or show appreciation with a flower arrangement for the chancel. Arrangements are $15 and can be ordered by signing the book on the north table in Fellowship Hall. Make checks payable to Hilltop UMC and write flowers in the memo line. You may take your flowers following the 10:30 worship service. 7
