3 November 2016 The Cent-I-Gram 3 October 25, 2016 Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, As I write this article, we re still 2 weeks away from our 2016 Election. Have you had enough yet? If your answer is yes, you re not alone. I read today that more than 80% of Americans wish this election were over. No matter who they support at the polls, Americans can mostly agree on one thing about this presidential campaign they re really, really ready to be finished with it. It s easy to see why people are ready to move on. If you re like me, this seemingly endless national campaign has taken its toll on your psyche, and left you feeling pretty stressed out. I can t remember an election where Americans have been so divided. And even though the elections will soon be over, there are sure to be some hard feelings and difficult times as we look forward as an American people. But now, Americans can begin to heal; and we Christians can do this in the sure and certain hope of our faith. On Reformation Sunday, we always say or sing the words of Psalm 46: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. The psalmist tells us that we are to be comforted and take heart, no matter what the forces of this world have in store for us. I have great confidence that with God showing us the way, Americans will come together as one people, and become stronger than we ve ever been. Thanks be to God! There is much happening here at Centennial this fall, as we close out another church year. In November, we will celebrate a First Communion and a Holy Baptism. We ll finish this church year on November 20 th, Christ the King Sunday. On that day we ll celebrate as a faith community celebrate our shared commitment to go forward in faith. Please worship with us on November 20th, and join us for a catered celebration meal following worship. Then on Wednesday, November 23 rd, Thanksgiving Eve, we ll share in worship at 7:30 PM along with members of other local faith communities at 1 st Presbyterian Church in Phoenixville. Please join us for this special service. Refreshments will follow the worship. We begin our new church year on Sunday, November 27, the First Sunday in Advent. I ve been very pleased during this past year as we ve grown stronger together, moving forward together in faith; and I fervently pray that we continue to grow together as a faith community here at Centennial. That always begins in worship. It is here that we meet the Risen Christ in Word and Sacrament. So please make a commitment to join us this November and in the coming church year! In Christ, Pastor Jerry

From Jack Charles, Director of Music Ministry Hymn Requests We hope to have the new red hymnal, Evangelical Lutheran Worship, ready for use by November 27th (Advent 1). Several more people have given me hymn requests. Only a few were usable for the Advent season but they will be used in 2017, especially in Lent, the Sundays of Easter and for Summer worship. When the new books arrive in the pews, please check out the hymns especially appropriate for Epiphany. They are found from page 301 to page 318 and request them. I'm sure you will find some of your favorites. Seeking Instrumentalists Instrumentalists to accompany hymns, anthems and to play preservice music add much to our worship. I have volumes of music which ranges from very easy to very complicated, Please contact me if you are interested in playing. I am hoping for both adults and students. Check with your extended family. If they are members at other churches they would be welcome to attend for the one Sunday they play for us. If they are not active in any church this would be a great way for us to share with them the joy of worship at Centennial. Any questions? Contact Jack Charles, Director of Music Ministry at

Rinkart served as pastor in Eilenburg, a walled town that became a crowded refuge for starving fugitives. Although Rinkart was struggling to provide for his own family, he opened his own home to people in need. After the plague entered Eilenburg, Rinkart conducted up to 50 funerals a day including services for his wife and the only other two pastors in town. Amid the despair, he wrote many hymns, including Now Thank We All Our God. Originally intended as a table prayer, it s now sung at Thanksgiving to remember God s countless gifts of love even during hardships.
