2 The Roundup Save the Date: Sunday, October 28: 4:00 pm Fall Festival 5:30 pm Trunk or Treat Pastor s Corner We wish Chelsea Thomas good luck as she leaves RMBC for a full time position. She has been a wonderful Administrative Assistant for our church. We will miss her and wish her well in her new adventure. RMBC will begin to look for a new person for that position. At this time we are using a temp, Meredith Buist, as we begin the process to find our new Administrative Assistant. Please be patient with us as we search. Office hours are shorter and we are in transition so, please keep us in your prayers. Blessings, Derik Notes From Susie I suppose in every age there are those who oppose certain music used in worship. I have been lucky in my 35+ years of music ministry I have had very little serious opposition to the music I choose for the choir or congregation. I have had some suggestions now and then that were very helpful as I try to set the table for worship every week. I know other churches have many struggles when it comes to instruments in worship; contemporary vs. traditional or praise songs vs. hymns. When I ran across the story of one of our traditional hymn writers I just had to smile. Here is the quote: In May, 1789, Rev. Adam Rankin told the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, meeting in Philadelphia: I have ridden horseback all the way from my home in Kentucky to ask this body to refuse the great and pernicious error of adopting the use of Isaac Watt s hymns in public worship in preference to the Psalms of David. Isaac Watts of O God Our Help in Ages Past fame? Really? Isaac Watts, later in life published a Children s song book that sold 80,000 copies. His goal with his hymns and songs was to profit all, if possible, and offend none. He was a gifted and dedicated minister who wrote music for understanding and worship. Very much like the Chris Tomlins or the Phil Wickams of today, Christian song writers want people to connect with God in worship through music. So let the organ sound.let the guitars strum.let the drums give the beat! Soli Deo Gloria!! Youth News For more information visit: rmbcyouthministry@gmail.com or contact Cadance Tyler at cadancetyler@gmail.com Bible Study and Fellowship: 9:45 am 6:30 pm Page 2 Blessings, Susie Upcoming Events for Youth: Veterans Dinner Wednesday, September 12th 6:30 pm The youth will be hosting a dinner to honor our RMBC Veterans in the Fellowship Hall. If you have served in the Armed Services and would like to attend, please RSVP to Cadance Tyler, or cadancetyler@gmail.com. Also, you are welcome to bring a photo of yourself in your uniform to display. Thank you for serving our country.
