2 The Roundup Pastor s Corner As we travel through Lent together at RMBC, I thought it might help to give you some basic facts about this ancient Christian season so that we can better appreciate this time. *Lent is a 40 day Christian festival beginning on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Easter (Sundays are not counted). Ash Wednesday usually involves ashes on the forehead to show our sorrow for our sins (placed in the sign of the cross often). *What we call Lent was originally a period of fasting and study for those preparing for baptism on Easter Sunday. Athanasius in 339 AD said it was celebrated all over the world (the Christian world that is). The 40 day fast of Jesus in the wilderness is why the number 40 was chosen. *The liturgical color of Lent is purple the color of repentance and sorrow for our sins. *Lent has been described as spiritual housecleaning. It is a time to take a serious look at our lives and make changes, repent of sins, and be ready to truly worship Jesus at Easter. The purpose was to practice humility and to be ready for Easter. *Some Christians will give up or abstain from various things as a sign of dedication and commitment. This is voluntary and not to be legalistic. RMBC observes this season and invites you to attend mid-week noon services with area churches. We also observe the season during our Sunday worships. We encourage you to take a serious spiritual self exam and make this a time to renew and repent and prepare to truly experience the joy of Easter. Blessings, Derik Notes From Susie Barbecue Dinner and Musicale Saturday, March 25 5:00p.m. 7:00 p.m. Suggested Ticket Price $10.00 Adults $5.00 Children 10 and under Sign up to participate in the Musicale in the connector building! 6 The Round Up Church Business A Special Message from the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship To the Congregation of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church: At the start of this new year, all of us at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship want to thank the members of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church for your dedication and commitment to sustaining Global Missions, supporting healthy churches and nurturing Young Baptists. We appreciate being your partner in ministries and missions. You are special to us, and we are grateful for you. You are sharing Christ s love in profound was as you join with nearly 1,800 fellow CBF churches to share and live the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your gifts, generosity and personal involvement accomplished great things for the body of Christ in You welcomed refugees from Syria and other countries around the world forced our of their homes from war, hunger and violence. You provided food, water, shelter, education, medical care and new opportunities for women, men and children marginalized by injustice. You offer peace, hope and love in a time when our country and our world are hungry for God s love. And you do so much more through your faithful partnership with CBF. You started new churches for people who had never been part of a church or heard the message of Jesus. You provided a network of support for churches and pastors. You offered a path for Young Baptists to respond to God s call and guidance in their lives. All of this work would not be possible without you and your compassion and kindness. As the Apostle Paul writes to the Philippians, I thank God for every remembrance of you. Thank you for all you are doing in your church, your community and in the world. We are grateful to have you as such an important CBF partner. Yours in Christ, Deacon s Ministry Teams Meeting March 19th at 12:15 pm If you serve on a ministry team (bereavement, outreach, hospital, homebound) please stay after morning worship Sunday, March 19th, for a brief (20 minutes) meeting with your team. Rooms will be announced for the teams to meet and discuss needs and determine how things are going. Each team should also discuss if more members are needed and if so, how many. After that meeting, the deacons will gather in the conference room to report on the needs. If you are interested in serving in one of these four areas and are not on a team, you are invited to attend a meeting to determine if this is something you might be willing to join. Our new special offering envelopes for the Sanctuary Remodeling Project have arrived! You will find them in the pew racks and on the tables in the Sanctuary Foyer and Connector Building.
