Confirmation next Sunday Next Sunday five young people will profess their faith in Jesus as their Savior and receive the Lord s Supper for the first time. The 8:00 a.m. service will be held as usual. The examination service will be at 9:45 a.m., followed by the Rite of Confirmation and Holy Communion at the 10:45 a.m. service. Open house All are invited to a confirmation open house for Melanie Gerbitz at 3 p.m. next Sunday at her home (W328S7881 Glen Way/ Mukwonago). Delegate conference help needed Housing is needed for those from sister congregations attending the Great Lakes Delegate Conference to be held here June 6-7. Some guests will arrive Sunday evening and stay for two nights. Most will need housing only Monday evening. It is a great way to make new acquaintances, renew old ones, and show Christian hospitality. The signup list is on the bulletin board. Lutheran Spokesman The Lutheran Spokesman is the official magazine of the CLC. Each issue contains a wealth of devotional articles, as well as synod news and announcements. Recently the number of subscribers has increased by 25%, which has allowed for a reduction in both renewal and new subscriber rates. The cost for renewals is $10 and new subscribers will receive 12 issues for $8 (1/2 price). It makes a great gift. A signup sheet is on the bulletin board. The deadline is June 26th. July 4th run Looking Ahead DWednesday: 7:00 P.M: Bible class. Discussion of CLC/ELS/WELS relations and the Joint Statement. DFriday: 5:00 P.M: Confirmation picnic. DNext Sunday: 8:00 A.M: Worship with Holy Communion. 9:45 A.M: Examination of confirmands. 10:45 A.M: Rite of Confirmation and Holy Communion. DJune 6th-7th: Great Lakes Delegate Conference. DJune 12th: Summer schedule begins: Services at 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. (Sunday School and Bible class in recess). For a number of years we have handed out water to thirsty runners at the Hales Corners Firecracker Four race. This July 4th we would also like to have a team from Messiah running the race to help make people aware of our church and hopefully also to have opportunity to speak of our risen Lord and invite them to join us in hearing His Word. Even if you don t plan to run, we could use volunteers to serve on a committee to design a T-shirt and make plans. Contact Pastor if you would like to help. CLC news: Church dedication today: Living Hope Lutheran Church will host a dedication service for their recently purchased church building this afternoon at 4:00, with food to follow! The new church address is 3100 East Calumet Avenue, Appleton WI Called home: Retired pastor Keith Olmanson was called from the trials of this earth to the glory of heaven this past Thursday. The memorial service will be held at Immanuel, Mankato, MN, at 2 p.m. Thursday. Pastoral call: Pastor Nathanael Mayhew of Sleepy Eye, MN, has been called to serve as shepherd of Faith, Markesan, WI. Ministry anniversary: On July 3 at 3 p.m., Peace Thru Christ, Middleton, WI, will hold a special service of praise commemorating Pastor Mark Bernthal s 40 years in the public ministry. 10

2 Men s retreat: The "Man Up" men's retreat will be held from Friday, August 26 to Sunday, August 28 at beautiful Wyalusing State Park near Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin (one hour south of La Crosse). The cost is only $75 for the weekend and includes lodging, meals, and activities. Registration deadline is July 1, The retreat is being organized by CLC congregations in Minnesota and Wisconsin to strengthen and encourage men 18 years and older in their God-given roles in the home, church, and society. Professorage repairs: The Immanuel Professorage Committee (IPC) has been doing a lot of planning for projects that will upgrade the professorage that Professor Paul Naumann will be moving into this summer. We are looking for volunteer help immediately before or after Convention, or anytime in June and early July convenient for you (in teams or individuals). In particular, the time after Convention (ends June 26) will be the most crucial and helpful. Projects include: installing new windows & siding, new carpeting/flooring, updating kitchen, painting interior, and fencing in the back yard. At Wednesday s Bible class we will continue our discussion of the history of the CLC relative to the WELS/ELS. We will also look at the Joint Statement prepared by representatives from the three synods. Friday picnic The picnic for this year s confirmands, as well as last year s class, will be held Friday from 5:00-6:30 at the parsonage. This year s class will meet from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. to prepare for Confirmation on Sunday. Confession and Absolution: P: Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts, as people who are by nature sinful and unclean, we can relate to the prophet Isaiah when he laments before You, Woe is me! For I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. We confess that our lips, our thoughts, our actions, and our whole selves are unclean. Dear Lord God, our Instructor in the truth and our Savior from sin and death: Your Word truly is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. We praise You for guiding us on that path which leads to Jesus and the eternal life He won for all by His suffering and death. Left to ourselves, Lord, we would quickly fall victim to Satan s deceptions, the world s distractions, and the misdirection of our flesh. Thank You for the gospel good news, the means of grace in Word and Sacraments, by which You have rescued us and made us Your own special people. Preserve us in the one true faith. You have given us many wonderful opportunities to grow in faith through Sunday worship and Bible classes. You have provided us with a Christian day school, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School to help our children know You better, that they may build their lives on Christ the Rock. We thank You for faithful, dedicated teachers who not only speak Your Word, but who live it and thereby serve as examples of Your loving care. This morning we think especially of Mrs. Aprill Lillo who has been such a blessing to this congregation, and in particular, to the youngest lambs of Your flock, and whom You are now leading to other areas of service. Her calm demeanor, patience, nurturing spirit, and joy in sharing Your Word will continue to bear fruit in the lives of her students for many years to come. Please bless her in her new endeavors, that she may be a blessing to all whose lives touch hers. We also ask that according to Your will and timing, You would supply us with another teacher to help with the spiritual instruction of new generations. Bless our Immanuel Lutheran High School, College, and Seminary. Grant the professors Your wisdom to prepare many men and women for the preaching and teaching ministries and to ready others to be active lay members and leaders of congregations throughout the CLC. Encourage many more parents to seek a Christ-centered education for their children. Impress upon our young people the priceless value of sitting at Jesus feet to hear His Word with classmates who share their faith and love for the Lord. Day by day be present with Gabriel Gurgel, the graduates of our congregation, and all the rest of us. Guide us where You want us to be and show us how You would have us serve You. No matter what our age, may it always be our greatest delight to search the Scriptures, to see Jesus ever more clearly as Lord and Savior, and to gladly speak of Him to all. We ask this in His name.
