Arise and Shine retreat Arise and Shine (20's & 30's Retreat) is less than a month away! (June 14th-17th at Camp JIM in Pillager, MN.) If you are in your 20's or 30's, please try to join us for this faith-building weekend. This year's theme is "Discipl(in)e." If you would like to receive a free retreat t-shirt, the registration deadline is May 31st. You may still register after that, but you will not receive a t-shirt. 3 Announcements P: I praise You, C: for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. It s almost here! The anniversary weekend is only days away! Take note of the schedule below. There is still room for more runners/walkers for the 5K Saturday morning. The weather forecast is predicting a beautiful spring day. The signup sheet is on the bulletin board. If you would like to participate, but not run or walk, a few course marshals would be appreciated. See Pastor if you re interested. Saturday, May 26: 10:00 a.m: 5K Fun Run/Walk. 11:30 a.m: Picnic lunch. Sunday, May 27: 9:30 a.m: Church Service (Pastor Sam Rodebaugh, guest speaker). 10:30 a.m: Anniversary program in the church. Alumni/students joint choir and alumni group picture. 11:45 Catered picnic lunch and fellowship. Also, take plenty of photos and videos over the weekend. We would like to compile some of them into a permanent record of the event. The people in your life... Sometimes it may seem as though the people in your life just happen to be there by random chance. But nothing could be further from the truth. Family, friends, co-workers, classmates, and many others are part of our lives by God s direction. They are agents of His grace. At Wednesday s Bible class we will continue our study of the people in King David s life, see how God used them for David s blessing, and how He does the same in our lives. This week s study focuses on David s pastor, the prophet Nathan. Everyone is welcome! Council notes Schedule adjustments: On Sunday, August 5, Mrs. Winters will be installed as lower grade teacher in our school. There will be only service. The service will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by a reception. The annual voters meeting will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 10:45 a.m. Finances: April offerings were $3,124 under budgeted needs and the balance of available funds decreased by over $5,000. For the fiscal year, offerings are $9,700 under budgeted needs and the balance of available funds has decreased by $8,000. The trend is a matter of concern. Please inform Mr. Quade if you know of their whereabouts. ILC helpers needed Dear friends of Immanuel: It is almost time to begin our cleaning assistance on the campus of Immanuel in Eau Claire. Paul Heinze would like to know how many people are coming and what you would like to do about 2 weeks ahead of time, if possible. 4 Prayer: P: O God, on this day You once taught the hearts of Your faithful people by sending them the light of Your Holy Spirit. Grant us in our day by the same Spirit to have a right understanding in all things and evermore to rejoice in His holy consolation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Closing hymn: O Day Full of Grace The Lord s Prayer: First lesson: Acts 2:1-21.Through the Word of salvation the Holy Spirit transforms confusion into faith. When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, Whatever could this mean? Others mocking said, They are full of new wine. But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. Fortify us to leave here and engage the people in our lives with the love poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Use us to bring Your peace into the lives of those who need Your love; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 6 Gospel lesson: John 14:25-27.In the Holy Spirit we always have a Counselor, Comforter, and Teacher at hand. These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things I have said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The Explanation of the Third Article of the Apostles Creed: I believe that I cannot by my own reasoning or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him. But the Holy Spirit has called me by the gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified, and kept me in true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church He daily and richly forgives all sins to me and all believers. On the last day He will raise me and all the dead and give to me and all believers in Christ eternal life. This is most certainly true. Also He said to me, Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord GOD: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then He said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off! Therefore prophesy and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
