P: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. C: Through His Word, God said, Let there be light, and there was light. P: The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. C: And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Thank you! We thank Prof. Paul Naumann for bringing us the wisdom of God this morning for our encouragement and the strengthening of our faith in Christ. Everyone is invited to stay after the service for light refreshments and fellowship. Pastoral conference The CLC General Pastoral Conference will be held on the Immanuel campus in Eau Claire Tuesday through Thursday. An agenda is posted on the bulletin board. If needed, Pastor can be reached on his cell: No Wednesday Bible class this week. Summer schedule next week Our summer schedule begins next Sunday, June 18. Services will be held at 8:00 and 9:30 a.m., with Sunday School and Sunday Bible class in recess. CLC call news: Teacher Neil Bernthal of Winter Haven, FL has returned his call to Faith, Markesan, WI. July 4th run Again this year we would like to staff a water table for thirsty runners participating in the Firecracker Four race. Check the signup sheet on the bulletin board or contact Steve Mielke for more information. Save the dates! Vacation Bible School is set for July All children ages 3-13 are invited to join us. Signup sheets are on the bulletin board. We need a wide range of helpers, including teachers, craft leaders, snack organizers, and playground help. Contact Pastor for more information. Flyers will be available soon. Consider sharing the invitation on your social media pages. Looking for help Messiah member Sharon Broz who lives in Gray s Lake, IL is looking for a ride to church. If you would be able to help, let Pastor know. Island Youth Retreat Immanuel, Mankato, MN is hosting an Island Youth Retreat August 2-6 for those entering 9th grade through those who have just graduated from high school. See the poster on the bulletin board or write to islandyouthretreat@gmail.com. Vacation time? Many of us look forward to summer vacations as a time to get away, unwind, and recharge. Of course, we never want to use vacation as time away from God and the needed refreshment of His Word. If you re away from home on a Sunday, consider visiting a nearby sister CLC congregation. Or if that isn t possible, our services are always available on ustream. Another aspect of our worship is our offerings by which we express our love for the Savior, our trust in His provision of our daily bread, and our desire to support the work of the gospel here at Messiah and through our joint work in the CLC. If you are not able to be at worship one or more weeks, you can still follow Paul s directive in 1 Cor. 16:2 and set aside a weekly offering for a future Sunday. Activity bags Families with small children are welcome to use an activity bag from the basket below the mailboxes. Yet we have failed to proclaim Your majestic name in our lives. We have denied Your glory and sought our own glory. EDUCATION FOR THE REAL WORLD: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS OUR TRIUNE GOD! I. It is His holiness that condemns our sin. II. It is His holiness that provides atonement for our sin. The Athanasian Creed (part 1) Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic faith. Whoever does not keep it whole and undefiled, will without doubt perish eternally. And the catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in trinity and Trinity in unity, neither confusing the persons nor dividing the substance. For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Holy Spirit is another. But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal. 3 8

5 He is God, begotten from the substance of the Father before all ages; and He is man born of the substance of His mother in this age: perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational soul and human flesh; equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the Father with respect to His humanity. Although He is God and man, He is not two but one Christ: one, however, not by conversion of the divinity into flesh but by the assumption of the humanity into God; one altogether, not by confusion of substance but by unity of person. For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ, who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again from the dead, Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit: the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Spirit uncreated; the Father infinite, the Son infinite, and the Holy Spirit infinite; the Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet there are not three Eternals but one Eternal, just as there are not three Uncreated nor three Infinites but one Uncreated and one Infinite. In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Spirit almighty; and yet they are not three Almighties but one Almighty. So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God; and yet there are not three Gods but one God. ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, from whence He will come to judge the living and the dead. At His coming all people will rise again with their bodies and give an account concerning their own deeds. And those who have done good will enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal fire. This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly, cannot be saved. Hymn 239 (red hymnal): Come, Thou Almighty King Sermon: Isaiah 6:1-7 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, and the Holy Spirit is Lord; and yet there are not three Lords but one Lord. Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge each distinct person as God and Lord, so also we are prohibited by the catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords. Prayer: P: Almighty and everlasting God, You have given us grace to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity by the confession of a true faith and to worship the Unity in the power of the Divine Majesty. Keep us steadfast in this faith and defend us from all adversities; for You, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, live and reign, one God, now and forever. The Lord s Prayer: Old Testament lesson: Proverbs 8:1-4, The Lord not only calls out and invites all people to listen to His wisdom, but reveals Himself as Wisdom personified. 7 4

6 Epistle lesson: 2 Timothy 3:10-17.The Spirit-breathed Word alone makes us wise for salvation. The Athanasian Creed (part 2) The Father is not made, nor created nor begotten by anyone. The Son is neither made nor created, but begotten of the Father alone. The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created not begotten but proceeding. Thus, there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits. And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another; but the whole three persons are coeternal with each other so that in all things, as has been stated above, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped. Therefore, whoever desires to be saved must think thus about the Trinity. Gospel lesson: Matthew 18:1-6.The truly wise humbly take God at His word with childlike faith. Therefore, it is the right faith that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is at the same time both God and man. 5 6
