I have been meeting with key people on the Pastoral Council, and we are making progress in putting together a priority list of the needs of the campus, and that of the financing of the projects that will be prioritized over the next five years. Needless to say, it is going to take a few meetings to get this down on paper and also try to create a list of things that need to be done in a timely manner not to mention the achievable goals that we can meet. As we start this journey of projects, we will need the assistance of a plethora of volunteers and people that can help us be creative in fundraising efforts, as well as project managers. I know that we can do this, as we have managed to resolve our debt in four and a half months. If indeed we can achieve that huge issue, we can do anything. As always, I give thanks for your continued support and genuine efforts in sustaining the hard work to make this parish run smoothly. God richly bless all of you as we continue to do His will and reap the benefits of His Grace. Amazing!! With much love... Fr. Ray Page 3

6 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The cause of church unity is commended to Christians for prayer and action every year around this time. This week is not so much to focus on the many divisions within the Christian family, but on bonds of faith and mission. Even though Christians have always shown an inclination to fracture, spin off, and mutate into new expressions, recent history shows some new points of convergence and agreement. Catholics are more firmly rooted in the word of God, for example, and many Protestants are more likely to celebrate Communion than in years past. Some denominations are merging and pooling resources, and people from various traditions are collaborating on projects. Christ the King Mission Statement Recognizing that we are the body of Christ, the Catholic Community of Christ the King is called to live the Gospel. We desire to express our commitment to this call through praise filled celebration which culminates in our being sent into the Las Vegas community to reach actively out to others. Thus, we seek to grow in Wisdom and Christian love. The call of this week is to be mindful of the diversity of our traditions and customs while treasuring what we hold in common. The old advice to lighten up is good medicine, TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE because sometimes our differences are En 1502 el Fraile Nicolás de Ovando y doce delightful and amusing. Sometimes it comes suddenly; other times it s been there all along but you haven t been paying much attention. But it is real and you know it is a glimpse of glory. This is what happened to Peter, James, and John. Jesus often went off to pray during their time with him, traveling through towns and villages. Luke makes a special point of telling us this more than once. At these times he would experience the presence of his Father. Now, while he was praying with his friends, the Father again draws near, not just to Jesus this time but to his disciples, too. But first there are Moses and Elijah, also in a state of glory, speaking to Jesus about his coming death, his exodus, his passing into glory. And Jesus will go on to speak to his disciples about his coming death, which they will not want to hear. But for now they are given a glimpse of glory, of what is at the end of the road. Every so often we need a reminder of what we are destined for, that our citizenship is in heaven. We need to be reminded of the promise that our Savior will come and change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body (Philippians 3:21). For the present, we need to heed the Father s words: This my chosen Son; listen to him (Luke 9:35). James A. Wallace, C.SS.R World Library Publications. All rights reserved. 8 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Begin date: January Saturdays mornings from 9-12 We will work this schedule until the course is complete. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children, beginning at the age of three. It seeks to create and facilitate a sacred, hands-on space for children called an atrium, in which both the children and the catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in the scriptures and the liturgy. Originally developed in Rome by Dr. Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi over 50 years ago, the Catechesis continues to spread worldwide and is used with adaptation in various Christian traditions. This Level I course grounds the participant in the theory and praxis of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd while also concretely preparing her/him to develop and facilitate an atrium for 3-6 year olds. Course Objectives: To explore with participants the general developmental and religious characteristics of the 3-6 year old child. To facilitate meditation upon the biblical and liturgical themes of the Catechesis. To offer guidelines and assistance to catechists in setting up an atrium for 3-6 year olds, preparing an album, and making materials. To deepen participants ability to observe and learn from children, while also exploring avenues for deepening parental and congregational ability to observe and learn from children. Teresa M.
