1 HERSCHEL PREPARATORY SCHOOL MUSIC LIBRARY PRE-PREPARATORY FOUNDATION INTERMEDIATE & SENIOR Message from our Head Dear Parents Rev. Sue Taylor led assembly this week. She explained that it was World Book Day on Monday, 23 April and the Senior School were encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book. After considering various possibilities she decided to dress up as Mordechai, who put on sackcloth and ashes when he was weeping and protesting about the terrible things that were about to happen to them. Taylor explained that sackcloth was often worn as a symbolic statement in the Bible, as a sign of how upset you were. In Ephesians 6 we are told to Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil s schemes In Proverbs 31 we read: Strength and dignity are her clothing which is speaking about an inner attitude of the heart. It is very easy for us to fall into the habit of looking just at the surface things and the appearance of people. We often pre-judge people or a situation because we don t look at the heart. We are more concerned about our outward appearances. What we wear, how thin or tall or pretty we might be, rather than asking God to grow the beauty of our hearts. Rev. Taylor challenged all of us to clothe ourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. Page 1

2 Pre-Prep The Pre-Prep celebrated World Read Aloud day by dressing up as their favourite book character. We had a variety of characters such as Tinkerbell, Starwars, Rapunzel, Wanda and the Wizard from Where s Wally, 101 Dalmatians, Flutterby, Elsa from Frozen, Fancy Nancy, TinTin and a few from the Dr Seuss books. Gilly Southwood, an engaging storyteller, read books to the children and involved a number of girls in acting out the tales. The girls told us about their favourite books and an enjoyable day was had by all. Foundation Phase Grandparent s Day for Grade 1 3 will take place on Friday, 27 July from 11:00 12:30 during our Readathon Week. This day will include a short assembly in the hall followed by a Mad Hatter s Reading Picnic. Girls who don t have Grandparent s attending will get to adopt a granny or grandpa for the reading picnic. Official Invitations will follow at the end of the term. Page 2

3 Winter Uniform Winter uniform will become compulsory from 2 May We will still be following the drought protocol for uniform. This means that should the girls be doing sport in the afternoons or PE lessons during the day, they may continue to wear their sport uniform to school. Girls will however, be required to wear their full tracksuit over their sports kit, during the winter term. Page 2 Grade 1 2 Foundation Phase winter school uniform formal and informal. 4 Music Orchestra and Choir Rehearsal This will take place on Saturday, 12 May at the following times: 08:30 10:30 Orchestra Rehearsal 11:00 13:00 Senior Choir Rehearsal Corrine Styles Modern Dancing girls have been excused from this rehearsal. Outreach Ice Cream Sales: Grade 1-7 Ice creams will be on sale at first break every Wednesday and Friday. All proceeds go towards the Herschel Outreach Fund. Thank you for your continued support! A contribution of R10 will allow girls to come to school wearing their slippers. Please support this worthy cause. Page 4

6 The Grade 7 Fair was fantastic. I was amazed at the wonderful goodies that the girls had made. Great fun was had by all as they charged around shopping up a storm. The joy for me is the fact that all of the money raised will be utilised for community service projects throughout the rest of I know that many people will benefit from the hard work and kindness of the Herschel girls and their families. Thank you for the wonderful manner in which you supported this venture. The total amount raised at the Fair will be shared in the next newsletter.
