INFANT BAPTISM Parents requesting baptism for their children under 7 years old must attend a mandatory preparation class offered every other month. Please call the Parish Office in advance for scheduling or other information. Infant baptisms are the last Sunday of each month. MARRIAGES/MARRIAGE PREPARATION Couples seeking the sacrament of marriage must be registered parishioners who are actively participating in the life of St. George Roman Catholic Parish. Stan THE HOPE AND PROMISE OF REDEMPTION The prophet Jeremiah prophesies the end of the Babylonian exile. He describes how the weak and sorrowful people now return with joy. These are the scattered people of God: the blind and the lame, the mothers and pregnant women. They shall be led along an easy road so that no one will stumble. The Lord s kindness and mercy are on all these weak and broken people. Here and in Psalm 126 we find the most lovely poetic images of God s love and care for us. Those that sow in tears / shall reap rejoicing. Although they go forth weeping, / carrying the seed to be sown, / they shall come back rejoicing, / carrying their sheaves (Psalm 126:5 6). Although God had to punish Israel for their many sins, God never forgot them, scattered as they were, and brings them all back to the land of their ancestors, there to flourish and be joyful again. We can see in this the hope and the promise of our own redemption, gathered from the far corners of the earth into the great banquet of God. Fr. 3 St. George Help for the Needy Volunteer Information Volunteer Meeting/lunch, Tuesday, November 6, :30 a.m. Social Hall PANTRY & OFFICE VOLUNTEERS The sign up rosters for December and January will be available at this meeting. We have started our Holiday Food Drive and will also have sign up for Monday Pantry to put away the food collected on weekends. Holiday Volunteers (Thanksgiving & Christmas) During this meeting, we will be taking Volunteer sign up for collecting turkeys, preparing the Thanksgiving boxes, distributing the Thanksgiving boxes, doing the Christmas ornaments, sorting toys, and gift distribution. Welcome back to our winter visitor volunteers. See you at the meeting. OUR LADY OF THE DESERT GUILD NEWS NOVEMBER MEETING The next meeting will be Wednesday, November 7 at 9:30 a.m. in the Social Hall. ALL ladies of the parish are invited to attend. We will review and vote on the adjustments made to our by-laws. Talk about the recommendations for additional activities to do. Discuss and ask for assistance for the Our Lady of Guadalupe pot luck on December 12 (We only assist with this event) GIFT SHOP The gift shop is operated by Our Lady of the Desert Guild. The gift shop is only open on Sundays during October, but will be opening on Saturday and Sunday starting in November. This is a GREAT place to do some Christmas shopping! Shop early and shop often. We also carry greeting cards for every occasion. Special Note: The New St. Joseph Sunday Missals for Liturgical Year 2019 have arrived! They are $5 each in the Gift Shop. Help for the Needy Food Collection We have started our Holiday Food collection. Please do not put hams or turkeys in the bins, they should be given to an usher, or brought to the parish office during office hours. Thank you for your continued support. Religious Education Has Begun! St. George Religious Education classes have begun on Sunday mornings, please be extra careful in the parking lot and watch for the children. Page 3

5 St. George Celebrates WORLD YOUTH DAY 2018 World Youth Day is a me to acknowledge and affirm the gi s and talents of our young people and to welcome and appreciate their par cipa on in our Church it is also our commitment to them that we will be there as they con nue their faith journey. On Sunday, October 28th, St. George will celebrate World Youth Day at the 11:30 a.m. Mass and again at our 6:00 p.m. Life Teen Mass. At the 11:30 a.m. Mass we will commission our younger Youth Lectors, Ushers, Altar Servers and Choir. At our 6:00 p.m. Life Teen Mass, EDGE and Life Teen students who are Eucharis c Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Altar Servers, and our Life Teen Choir will be commissioned. On this special day for the youth how appropriate is it that we will also be celebra ng Fr. Stan s Birthday!!! 6 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS PAGE Happy Birthday Fr. Stan! We Love You! On Saturday, October 20th EDGE and Life Teen students packed emergency boxes for the elderly at St. Mary s Food Bank. By the end of their shift, they had packed 17 pallets of food, more than enough to feed 765 seniors for a week! That s 5300 meals! Many thanks to our students for all of their hard work on behalf of the less fortunate in our community. Thank you also to those who drove our students to this project: Amy McDonnel, Randy Lazar, Evelyn Gastelo, William & Wendy Miller and Robert and Amanda Armijo.
