When resources are shared to assist people in need, we are living our faith. Each gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal supports numerous ministries, charities and services throughout our Diocese. We are now at 25%. Donate online at: THE INSIDE SHOWS In this third Sunday of our reading from the Sermon on the Plain, Jesus speaks of the inner soul and its outer expression. He uses images as he teaches. He addresses all of us. Jesus sees a plumb line connecting the soul with the soul's expression-words and actions. He uses exaggeration to drive home his point. We are urged to clear out the debris that blinds us. He knows that we have an uncanny ability to be blind to our own weaknesses, though they be as big as a board. He knows, too, how willingly we seem to ferret out others' smallest speck-like flaws. And this, too, is for our general consumption; solid old goodness and solid old badness will show eventually. The old Latin saying, which echoes Jesus images, is true: What is bred in the bone will out in the flesh. By and by, the inside will show through. 4 St. Joseph s Table Many years ago in Italy they had years of famine. The people prayed to St. Joseph to give them a good harvest and promised to share the bounty with everyone. They had a good harvest that year and made food from what the fields produced and invited everyone into their home to share. Therefore a meatless meal was shared by all. St. Joseph s Table is celebrated to honor and give thanks to St. Joseph for that wonderful harvest. MASS & POTLUCK DINNER Monday, March 18th there is a special Mass at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Potluck Dinner to celebrate St. Joseph. Everyone is invited. Families whose last name starts with: A-J bring salads, bread or fruit K-R bring dessert (cake, cookies, etc.) S-Z bring meatless main dish Bring enough to serve people. May the peace, love and protective hand of St. Joseph guide your life and the lives of those you love and cherish.
