Please call the Parish Office in advance for scheduling or other information. Infant baptisms are the last Sunday of each month. MARRIAGES/MARRIAGE PREPARATION Couples seeking the sacrament of marriage must be registered parishioners who are actively participating in the life of St. George Roman Catholic Parish. When resources are shared to assist people in need, we are living our faith. Each gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal supports numerous ministries, charities and services throughout our Diocese. BLESSED When we think of the word Beatitude we think of today s discourse from Luke s Gospel, or the more familiar one from Matthew (which begins Blessed are the poor in spirit... ). Actually, beatitudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrection in John s Gospel, Christ proclaims, Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short reminders about the characteristics that one will find in a follower of Christ, characteristics that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In Latin, the saints are called the Beati, the Blessed, for they are the ones who lived the blessed life as described by Jesus throughout the Gospels. How blest are we, when we also strive to make our own days a living beatitude! 4 St. Joseph s Table Many years ago in Italy they had years of famine. The people prayed to St. Joseph to give them a good harvest and promised to share the bounty with everyone. They had a good harvest that year and made food from what the fields produced and invited everyone into their home to share. Therefore a meatless meal was shared by all. St. Joseph s Table is celebrated to honor and give thanks to St. Joseph for that wonderful harvest. MASS & POTLUCK DINNER Monday, March 18th there is a special Mass at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Potluck Dinner to celebrate St. Joseph. Everyone is invited. Families whose last name starts with: A-J bring salads, bread or fruit K-R bring dessert (cake, cookies, etc.) S-Z bring meatless main dish Bring enough to serve people. Mondays February 18 & 25 Room 3 at 1:30 OUR LADY OF THE DESERT GUILD Our Lady of the Desert Guild has a game day planned for Wednesday, February 20. The time is from 1:30 3:30 p.m. in the Social Hall. All women in the parish are invited to come and have a great time. Bring 5 quarters and a snack to share. The next guild meeting will be on Wednesday, March 13 and will be very busy. We have a Fashion Show by Cato s and a Pantry Shower for the San Carlos Mission planned at that meeting. Please join us as we serve our church and others along with having many activities throughout the year. Below is a picture of the painting party that we had in January. Gift Shop The Gift Shop is open and we have many gifts for Baptism, 1st Communion, and Confirmation. We are hearing that boys are difficult to buy for but we do have nice Bibles, books on the Sacraments, Lives of the Saints, Saints flash cards & matching games, as well as, traditional rosaries, crucifixes, and holy cards. We also have All Occasion cards for the Sacraments, as well as, Birthday, Baby, Get Well, Sympathy, and Anniversary cards. All greeting cards are $1.50 each.
