INSTRUCTIONS FOR EMERGENCY If you or someone you know is in critical condition or near death call weekdays from 8:00am to 5:00pm. After hours and on weekends call Please do not use this service for any other reason. INFANT BAPTISM Parents requesting baptism for their children under 7 years old must attend a mandatory preparation class offered every other month. Please call the Parish Office in advance for scheduling or other information. Infant baptisms are the last Sunday of each month. MARRIAGES/MARRIAGE PREPARATION Couples seeking the sacrament of marriage must be registered parishioners who are actively participating in the life of St. George Roman Catholic Parish. We might think, Great in theory, but not always realistic! Then Jesus in today s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we re tempted to think that those are nice ideals, but not very practical in the real world. Paul echoes Jesus when He tells the Corinthians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dishonest without distinction. We must examine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accordingly. HOSPITAL STAYS For those of you who may be going into the hospital for a scheduled procedure, please call the parish office or see a priest after Mass and ask for Anointing of the Sick BEFORE you go in to the hospital. If you are admitted for an emergency please call for a priest as soon as you are admitted. You do not have to be dying to be anointed. If you are calling to have someone anointed in the hospital please have the hospitals correct name & phone number, the persons full name, and the room number. UPCOMING EVENTS Feb. 22. DIVINE MERCY MOVIE Feb. 20 at 3:30pm in room 3 The Original Image of Divine Mercy On Feb. 22, 1931, St. Faustina saw a vision of the Lord Jesus who tells her to paint an image according to the pattern she see. This groundbreaking documentary tells the previously-unknown history of the original masterpiece commissioned by St. Faustina through a series of interviews with key witnesses and individuals intimately connected to the epic adventure of the world s most important work of art. 5 Middle School youth (grades 6-8) Tues., Feb. 21 Matrimony and Holy Orders We continue our semester on the Sacraments with Matrimony and Holy Orders. This session provides an overview of the Church s two Sacraments of Service and encourages the participates to consider how they can use their gifts to serve others. GOLF BALLS FROM HEAVEN Tickets for our Golf Balls from Heaven ball drop, benefiting our Scholarship Fund will be available after all the Masses on: March 4/5 or through the parish office. High School youth (grades 9-12) Sun., Feb. 19 To Live with Spirit: Exploring the Effects of Confirmation This session explores the effects of the Sacrament of Confirmation. By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with special strength of the Holy Spirit. We become true witnesses of Christ and are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed. Next weekend, all Confirmation Candidates will be on retreat at Lost Canyon, Williams, AZ. There will be no Life Teen Class following Life Teen Mass. Please keep our candidates in your prayers. It s for a chair: Saint Peter s chair in fact. After the Resurrection, there can be no doubt that the disciples reserved a special place for Simon Peter in the upper room. Later, Peter became the bishop of Antioch in today s Syria, the place where we were first called Christians. From there, he went to Rome, the center of the Empire, where it is said that Peter sat in a chair in the house of Priscilla and Aquila to instruct his flock. Jesus, in entrusting the keys of the Kingdom to Peter and his successors, entrusted his compassion and mercy to them, and charged them with pointing to the Kingdom of God. Compassion and mercy are to resonate through their teaching. Since the ancient sign of a teacher is the chair ( disciple literally means one who sits at the feet of a teacher), Peter s chair has long been treasured. Today there is a symbolic shrine of Peter s chair above the main altar of St. Peter s Basilica in Rome. This monument is the last work of Bernini, a huge bronze throne supported by four doctors of the Church: Augustine and Ambrose from the Western Church, and Chrysostom and Athanasius from the East. High above it is the alabaster window of the descent of the Holy Spirit. C@THOLIC D@UGHTERS OF The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the largest international organizations of Catholic women in the world. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month (Sept.-May) at All Saints Catholic Church (McKay Hall) 1534 N. Recker Rd., Mesa. We begin our meetings with the Rosary at 12:45pm. Our guest speaker of our February 28th meeting will be Christopher Felton from the Diocese s Office of Prison Ministry. All women of the parish are invited to join us.
