INFANT BAPTISM Parents requesting baptism for their children under 7 years old must attend a mandatory preparation class offered each month. Please call the Parish Office in advance for scheduling or other information. Infant baptisms are the last Sunday of each month. MARRIAGES/MARRIAGE PREPARATION Couples seeking the sacrament of marriage must be registered parishioners who are actively participating in the life of St. George Roman Catholic Parish. As we celebrate the epiphania, the appearing of the eternal Word of God on earth, this is still true. What rapturous foresight must have filled Isaiah as he wrote the words we hear today. How, for four hundred years, they must have filled the hearts of the people of Israel with hope for the day when God s glory would shine on them. How deceived some must have felt when the glory of God came to them in the lowliest and humblest of human lives. We have nay expectations about how the divine presence will appear among us. But we can also set ourselves up, through these expectations, to miss the divine glory when it truly appears. We get caught up in looking for the star, forgetting that the star is not the divine sign, the babe is. It may take a persistent journey for us to come upon the true appearance of God s glory in our lives: Jesus Christ. NO SMOKING St. George has become a non-smoking campus. 3 SPAGHETTI DINNER Friday, January 22 St. George Social Hall Seating at 5:00 or 7:00pm Proceeds benefit the Life Teen Retreat Fund. Tickets available after all Masses January 16/17 or through the parish office Adults: $10 Kids (10 & under): $5 The Prayer Shawl Group meets Mondays from 9-11am in room 6. We knit and crochet shawls for the sick and elderly. Please join in this ministry and meet new friends. The shawls are available in the Parish Office at no charge. Through the pages of scripture we will rediscover Mary of Nazareth, who experienced pain, sorrow, fear, frustration, anger, disappointment and finally divine bliss. We will discover Mary s secret to finding peace and God s joy as we learn to live through our own pain and frustrations. The presenter, Judith Dunlap, has been involved in Church ministry for over thirty years. She has authored a number of books and been a regular columnist for CHURCH Magazine and Franciscan Media. Classes resume: Life Teen Sunday, January 3 EDGE & SPC 6-12 Tuesday, January 5 Grades K-5 Wednesday, January 6 Grades K-3 Sunday, January 10 Tues., Jan. 5 Jesus the Christ During the second semester of EDGE we explore Jesus the Christ. Christ stands at the center of salvation history, at the center of our parishes and in the hearts of all believers. Throughout these sessions our students will come to know the many faces of Jesus. They will meet the Jesus of the Gospels, finding the relationship between His story and their own. How we are connected to Christ through Church, parents and peers. We will discuss Jesus Incarnation, the Trinity, Jesus miracles, and salvation. Through this semester our students will be challenged to rely of Jesus as Savior, role model, teacher, caregiver and guide. For more information contact Christine at ext. BIBLE STUDY The study of Luke starts Thursday, January 7th in the social hall, from 6:30-8:00pm. HOSPITAL STAYS For those of you who may be going into the hospital for a scheduled procedure, please call the parish office and ask for an Anointing of the Sick BEFORE you go in to the hospital or see a priest after Mass. If you are admitted for an emergency please call for a priest as soon as you are admitted. You do not have to be dying to be anointed. If you are calling to have someone anointed in the hospital please have the hospitals correct name and phone number, the persons full name, and the room number. POLISH MASS Fr. Stan celebrates a Mass in Polish on the 1st Saturday of every month at 6:00pm. For January only, 2nd Saturday, Jan. 9th. JUBILEE YE@R OF MERCY A tour is coming to Arizona in January 2016, Faustina - Messenger of Divine Mercy (live drama performance - 90 minutes). The live theatrical one-woman drama performed by Maria Vargo and directed by Leonardo Defillipis of Saint Luke Productions, will be presented at several locations in Arizona. Audiences experience firsthand the spirit and life of Polish mystic St. Faustina, whose personal encounters with Jesus have inspired a world-wide zeal for Christ s Divine Mercy. They have gathered before the feast-day meal, probably after Mass, and the head of the family has traced the sign of the cross on the piece of chalk. Standing on a ladder, the leader traces the numbers for the new year, and the letters C M B for Christus Mansionem Benedicat, Latin for May Christ bless this house. The letters also point to the names that tradition has assigned to the mysterious magi, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar although scripture tells us nothing of their numbers, their country, or their names. The blessing speaks of journeys ended and journeys begun at the doorway, and prays that all journeys be as satisfying as was the magi s. It prays that the house beyond the door have the quality of love and peace that the magi marveled at when they at last arrived in Bethlehem. In some countries where the Soviet Union tried to impose a harsh atheism, the vigor of this household custom survived all efforts to erase Christian customs. In the years of struggle, the chalked blessings were a pervasive sign of defiance, and now in the light of new freedoms, they are a sign of the resilience of our tradition and the fulfillment of the magi s quest for meaning and peace. JESUS, M@RY & JOSEPH S@VE THE UNBORN The rosary will be said, for the Unborn, the first Saturday of each month after the 8:00am Mass. St. George Scholarship Fund Each year St. George works with Fry s and our parishioners to raise money for our Scholarship Fund.
