Lanahan DATE: July 19, 2018 RE: September Stewardship Bulletin Reflections The attached information is provided as a way of presenting the message of Stewardship and is recommended for use for the five weekends in September These monthly Stewardship Bulletin Reflections will be Please review the Stewardship Prayer of the Faithful Petitions provided. These petitions are dated and provided to match the weekly scripture readings. We now provide Prayer of the Faithful Petitions for Teens and Young Adults. These weekly Stewardship Reflections & Prayer of the Faithful Petitions are available in Spanish. 2 Weekly Bulletin Announcements Please insert the appropriate weekly bulletin announcement for the five weekends of September: 22 nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Stewardship Doers Be doers of the word and not hearers only (JAMES 1:22) It is easy to understand the definition of Stewardship. The hard part is living it! What do you do to live God s word? Do you share your time in prayer with God? Do you use your talent to help those in need? Are you generous with your financial resources? If not, what are you waiting for? Stewardship Faith 23 rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him? (JAMES 2:5) What is more important for a Steward being rich in faith or rich in possessions? Society teaches us that possessions are most important. God teaches a different lesson. When we are rich in faith, we keep God first in all things and realize that material things really don t matter and that it s more important to share with those who have less. 24 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Stewardship Lifestyle Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. (MARK 8:34) When we truly believe that all we have is a gift from God, then we must be willing to give up some things so that we can share our blessings as God intended. Living a Stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for our own life, but the lives of others as well.

3 September 23, th Sunday in Ordinary Time Stewardship Calling If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all. (MARK 9:35) Jesus teaches us that we are called in Stewardship to serve one another. Sacrifice is not a word that many people like to hear. We think it means that we must give up something that we want. However, the literal meaning of sacrifice is to make holy, from the words sacer = sacred and facere = to make. In other words, we make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in the service of God. 26 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Stewardship Kindness Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward. (MARK 9:41) Does your life as Steward reflect the life of Jesus? Remember, we were made in His image. We tend to forget this. When others see you, do they see the face of Jesus? When you look at others, do you see the face of Jesus in them?

4 Weekly Prayer of the Faithful Petitions That we as Christian Stewards may not only hear God s word, but also learn to live it every day of our lives. Let us pray to the Lord. That we as Christian Stewards may grow stronger in our faith, realizing that God does not measure us by what we possess but rather by what we do for one another. Let us pray to the Lord. That we as Christian Stewards remember that absolutely everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God. Let us pray to the Lord. September 23, 2018 That through our service and our sacrifice we as Christian Stewards may grow closer to Jesus and help others to know the love and care of Our Lord. Let us pray to the Lord. Remembering that we as Christian Stewards will be judged by what we do for the least among us, may we give generously and joyfully to support all those in need. Let us pray to the Lord.

5 TEENS and YOUNG ADULTS For those Teens and Young Adults who have strayed from the Church, that they might remember that Christ always welcomes them back, no matter what. We pray to the Lord. For Teens and Young Adults struggling with their Faith, may we be shining examples of Christ s love and mercy to them. We pray to the Lord. For our catechists and religion teachers of our Teens and Young Adults, that they might be led by the Holy Spirit as they pass on the Catholic faith to their students. We pray to the Lord. For our Teen and Young Adult leaders, that they might be inspired to lead our future generation to Christ. We pray to the Lord.
