SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Couples should meet with a priest at least eight months prior to the wedding. The wedding date should not be set before talking with a priest. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptism preparation classes are held in the conference room the first Saturday of each month, from 10:00am to 11:30am. The classes are required for parents and godparents. Please call the parish office for additional information. Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (CCC 1214).

3 Parish Stewardship Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Masses on September 10, 2017 Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Collection totals were not available at the time of publication STEWARDSHIP SPOTLIGHT - TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME We endured one of the worst natural disasters to hit our state and region last week in Hurricane Irma, and over a week earlier was Hurricane Harvey in Texas. I hope and pray that all who read this and your families and friends fared well. However, that is not necessarily the case. Many people lost significant belongings their whole house and/or possessions and many people lost their lives. Many will suffer for extended periods of time. Such disasters cause many to question their faith in a loving God. There are preachers of the Prosperity Gospel in which God s favor for those who please Him is shown by material wealth and health. However, a thorough reading of the Bible, especially the words of Jesus and His followers in the New Testament, fails to justify such a theology. Instead, Jesus tells us to take up our cross, to sacrifice, and follow Him. If God s favor for someone s goodness is really revealed by wealth and health, most of the world, even our Catholic brothers and sisters in impoverished regions, must really have it wrong or be bad people. Of course that is not true. No, we are not promised leisure and success in the material world in repayment for our faith. Instead, our blessings are a gift that we are called to return to God through His Church and His People. Our goal is eternal life with God in heaven. More important at these difficult times, God promises to be with us in our sufferings. If we but ask, He will bless us with His Spirit to give us strength, faith, hope, and peace.
