PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We of St. Bernadette Parish, are a Eucharistic Community, created by the Father, nourished by the Lord and led by the Holy Spirit. We are to be the eyes, ears, hands and heart of Christ, living by His example, sharing the Good News in Word and deed. SACRAMENT OF PENANCE: Saturday: After the 8:30 AM Mass. Monday: 6:00 6:45 PM. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Baptisms are celebrated every second and fourth Sunday of the month at 1:15 PM. Pre-Baptismal Seminar The third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM. Please call the Parish Office to reserve dates for both the Pre-Baptismal Seminar and your child s Baptism. RCIA PROCESS/SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION FOR ADULTS: Inquiry Sessions for those interested in becoming Catholic are held weekly. Call the Parish Office for more information. 2 2ND SUNDAY OF ADVENT As we enter the second week of Advent, we hang the next seven symbols on our Advent Wreath. Sunday recalls Joseph of the Old Testament, disliked by his brothers, and yet became the source of unity and peace. We often know this story as Joseph and the coat of many colors. Gen. 37: Monday is the symbol of the 10 commandments on the stone tablets, God s Word, and given for us to live His ways. Ex. 20:1-17 Tuesday s symbol is a rose, signifying the desert will burst into bloom with the coming of the Lord. Is 9:1-6 Wednesday We focus on one of the greatest times in Salvation history, the anointing of David as King, and his beautiful prayerful psalm writing and singing the psalms with the harp. 1 Sam 16:1-18 Thursday we think about Solomon, son of David and King to follow him. Solomon who was willing to give up riches and fame for wisdom and built the great Temple. Our symbol is a crown. 1 Kings 3:3-28 Friday s focus is the raven, symbolizing how the ravens brought Elijah food in his time of need because Elijah was dedicated only to preserving and teaching God and His truths. 1 Kings 17:1-16 Saturday The image of a scroll, representing the writings and prophesies of Isaiah, the prophet most noted for speaking about the future Savior. Is 6:1-8 In this second week of Advent, remember that our Salvation History is extremely important to meditate on for us to see how God never abandons us but builds an eternal family with us, if we participate. Meditate on these images throughout Advent, it is a great way to see Christmas in a different and more awesome way. Advent Confessions with several Priests will be December 13, 6:30 PM 8:30 PM Taize will take place during the confessions, in this way, those in line for confessions will experience the meditative prayer through music and help us focus on God s Love through Jesus Christ as well as His forgiveness. The Bethlehem Christian Families Mission would like to express humble appreciation to you for allowing us to revisit St. Bernadette Church the weekend of November 25/26 of With your kindness and through the generosity of your parishioners, the sales of the olive wood carvings received a total amount of $ 7, Praying For Vocations This week, Rowles Romito Family will be praying for vocations with the vocation kit. Please consider signing up and praying for more vocations to the religious life and priesthood. All Volunteers of any capacity, plan on coming to our annual appreciation breakfast on December 17 at 9:00 10:00 or 11:00 12:00 in the Lourdes Center. Additional Parking In this alive and vibrant parish, and with the enforcement of the no parking on yellow lines for safety, there is additional parking permitted in the bowling alley parking lot, with a nice path across from the front of our church doors. Although not as nice a path, there is additional parking in the Big Lots parking lot with a path that leads down near the St. Vincent de Paul boxes.

3 ST. BERNADETTE PARISH DECEMBER 10, 2017 NOTES FROM THE PASTOR CONTINUED: Notes about Christmas and New Year s Day (the Solemnity of Mary). Christmas is a Monday this year and one of the two highest Holy Days in the year for us. Due to the nature of the day of the week, any Mass offered at 4:00 pm or after on December 24, will be a Mass to fulfill Christmas Day, not Sunday. Therefore in our parish, in order to fulfill Sunday Mass, do not rely on Sunday evening Mass. The Solemnity of Mary is also a Monday, this Solemnity falls into the category that when it falls on a Saturday or Monday, although still a Solemnity, it is not obligated to attend. Therefore Mass for January 1, will be 11:30 PM on December 31 with the Holy Hour, and ONLY 9:30 AM Monday, January 1. The office will be closed in Honor of the Octave (8 day) Holy Day, from 12:00 noon December 21- January 3. On Mondays December 25, and January 1, there will be NO adoration, evening Mass, nor confessions. There will be NO confessions on December 23. Unfortunately, SOS has grown so fast that our calendar has forced us to move the Clothing Drive to early February. SOS knows that this is an inconvenience to hold the donations, but this change will be permanent, and our annual clothing drive will be in February each year from now on.
