2 5TH SUNDAY of LENT Who are the important people in our world? Who are the great people in our country? It depends on your definition of important. These are some of the people in our world who receive glory and renown and fame and publicity: - pop stars, sport stars, successful business people, company directors, billionaires. Are they the really important people in our world? There are other people who are not famous; they are people caring for sick relatives, people suffering crosses without grumbling, emergency medical and fire personnel, those giving encouragement to others, school teachers, those who bring the love of God to others, those who witness to Jesus in small ways in everyday life whether it be a job, career or just daily every day personal life. They are the really great people in our world. Think of a pop song or a great sport score, or a successful business deal. It will not last into eternity. It will end and the memory gone. Think of an act of kindness or any work or action done for others. These are the grains of wheat Jesus is speaking about in the Gospel today that must die to yield fruit. When we do these actions, we die to our self, in imitation of Jesus dying for us. These will not only last into eternity forever, they will actually build the Eternal Kingdom. Deacon With the decrease in the amount of priests, we are relying more on our deacons than we have in the past. We have an excellent Deacon here in Mike Kelly. He really carries the load of taking care of the sick, our ministries, and formation of adults. He assists in many other areas as well, especially in Baptisms. The Diocese of Pittsburgh is initiating the nomination and application process for admitting a new class of interested and qualified men into the Deacon Formation Program. If interested see Deacon Mike or Fr. Tony. The deadline for nominations is May 15, Commandments You may have seen throughout some parts of Westmoreland County, over the last year, yard signs with the 10 Commandments. As many places have taken down public displays of the 10 commandments, people have displayed then on yard signs in their yards. We are doing the same. We have ordered a few hundred to hopefully be ready for Easter time. The reason I chose this time is that the Passover commemorates the passage through the wilderness to the Promised Land for the Jews. This is when Moses received the 10 Commandments. We too are on a journey to the Promise Land, the Promise Land of Heaven. The 10 Commandments are not only relevant for us on this journey, they are the basis and root system for governing of our nation and many nations throughout the world. They will be available soon for a $3 donation. Please consider taking one for your yard. It is a donation so if you cannot afford it, please still consider taking a sign. Let us continue to evangelize how Jesus leads us to the Promised Land of heaven by building a people honoring God and others. Priests and Church Alive During this time of changes in our church, we must remember the cause of this is the severe decline in vocations. I ask you, every one, how many people from your family, immediate or extended, have become a priest, deacon, sister, or brother? The value of vocational work has declined beginning in the 1970 s and now we have less people doing the same amount of work. In our own parish, there had not been an ordained priest since the 1960s. Imagine if we would support vocations, encourage vocations. We might not be in this predicament. Let s together foster, encourage and help those called to answer the call! I would like to call attention to a mistake I made last week. In the 1990s, Fr. Nick Vaskov did join our parish and was ordained recently. Although this is wonderful, with a parish this large, I believe there are many other vocations, please help foster these vocations. 7 Church Visits Holy Thursday There will not be a 7 church walk this year, due to lack of time and lack of reverence. If interested you may join North American Martyrs or create your own church visits. Confessions March 21 confessions with 5 priests along with Taize Prayer. Please use this time for confessions. Monday and Saturday times are impossible to keep up with the number of confessions in Lent. The last confessions in Lent are Monday March 26. Praying For Vocations This week, Sheila DiCroce will be praying for vocations with the vocation kit. Please consider signing up and praying for more vocations to the religious life and priesthood. BULLETIN The bulletin company requires early deadlines for the following weeks in March and April Sorry for the inconvenience, put please note the due dates. March 25 bulletin due by noon on March 19 April 1 bulletin due by noon on March 21 April 8 bulletin due by noon on March 22 The absolute deadline for all Easter flower intentions to be published is March 24. Thank you for your cooperation. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY will be held on April 8 at 3:00 PM. Details to follow. Peace of Christ, Fr.. Tony

3 ST. BERNADETTE PARISH March 18, 2018 ADORATION Blessed Angela Foligno s devotion to the Holy Eucharist was so great that one day, during the Holy Mass she hears the words: Here is all the joy of the Angels. Here is the delight of the Saints. Here is all your happiness. At this moment, the Son of God, in His humanity and divinity, is on the altar and is in the company of an immense multitude of Angels. The greatest love story of all time is contained in a tiny white host. Bishop Fulton J. Sheen In that little Host is the solution to all the problems of the world.
