PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We of St. Bernadette Parish, are a Eucharistic Community, created by the Father, nourished by the Lord and led by the Holy Spirit. We are to be the eyes, ears, hands and heart of Christ, living by His example, sharing the Good News in Word and deed. SACRAMENT OF PENANCE: Saturday: After the 8:30 AM Mass. Monday: 6:00 6:45 PM. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Baptisms are celebrated every second and fourth Sunday of the month at 1:15 PM. Pre-Baptismal Seminar The third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM. Please call the Parish Office to reserve dates for both the Pre-Baptismal Seminar and your child s Baptism. RCIA PROCESS/SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION FOR ADULTS: Inquiry Sessions for those interested in becoming Catholic are held weekly. Call the Parish Office for more information. 2 28TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME I think most of us have been to weddings. There was a time when it was more popular, and I hear it still exists, that sometimes people crash weddings. They were not invited but they crashed. Why do people crash weddings? Some of the top 4 reasons for crashing weddings are : To see a person they know, such as a relative, friend, or an ex get married. For something that is offered at the event, such as free catered food or alcoholic beverages. To steal money or gifts from the bride, groom, or guests. To get revenge, such as if the bride or groom is an enemy of the person doing the crashing. God the Father promised us a day when the Messiah will come, a day when the Divine will be united as one with humans. Jesus did this. He united the Divine with humans. He became one with us as a human. We will be one with Him forever in heaven if we live as he asked. Yet, we want to go to heaven but do not always want to follow what Jesus asked. We do not follow the Commandments or the New Testament implications, yet we want to be entitled to eternity in heaven. This is what the parable is about in the Gospel. This man wanted to be in heaven, he wanted to be part of the wedding celebration for eternity, but he did not wear the proper clothing of good deeds, following the Commandments, caring for others as more important than self, and all the teachings of Jesus and the Father. As we reflect on this, we should ask, are we wedding crashers? Do we want to go to heaven to be with our relatives who wore the wedding garments, even though we have not? We all know these people in our lives, our relatives, grandparents, aunts, uncles, others. Do we want the best foods like in the vision of this heavenly feast in the first reading? Juicy rich food and choice wines. Do we want to steal the treasure of heaven, although it is not rightfully ours since we did not truly respond to the groom, Jesus, spiritually? In our minds, do we want to get back at God for life being hard and proclaim that we deserve heaven? The wedding feast is for the Spiritual marriage of God and humans. The uniting of God and us through each of our yeses. And so ask yourself am I going to the wedding feast because I said yes to be one with God, or am I a wedding crasher?. Praying For Vocations This week, Denise Giunta will be praying for vocations with the vocation kit. Please consider signing up and praying for more vocations to the religious life and priesthood. Bible Study Fall Bible Study on the Acts of the Apostles is Monday evenings at 7:30 PM (after Mass) in the church or Thursday mornings at 11:00 AM in Beidenbach Hall. Fellowship Sunday is next Sunday after the 8, 10 and 12:00 Masses. Plan on time with your parish family. Thank you to Noah Chough for his Eagle Scout project of painting the yellow lines and putting up the signs so that emergency vehicles are now able to access the campus and other problems with traffic and parking can be resolved. 100 th Anniversary of Fatima October 13, is the 100 th Anniversary of the last public apparition of Fatima. We will honor this today, Sunday October 15 th at 1:15 (after the 12:00 crowd departs). Peace of Christ, Fr.. Tony PRE BAPTISMAL CLASS: The next Pre- Baptismal seminar for anyone baptizing a baby in the near future will be held on Tuesday October 17 at 7:00 PM in the Rectory Conference Room. We require this class for all new parents. Please call the Parish Office to register ALL SOULS MEMORIAL MASS The Memorial Mass for All Souls Day will be Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 PM. All those who were buried from our Parish in the past year will be remembered with a candle. The families for those will receive invitations in the near future. Anyone else who wishes to have loved ones remembered at this Mass should call the Parish Office at and provide the names for inclusion. The deadline for submitting additional intentions is Tuesday, October 24. Please come and join us for dinner and a Movie. We will be showing Song of Bernadette" this month. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the movie on a big screen in Biedenbach Hall at 6:00 PM on October 19, 2017.

Mears Eucharistic Ministers: Group E 2018 MASS INTENTION SCHEDULING We will begin scheduling Mass intentions for 2018 in the Parish Office on Tuesday, October 31, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. We will continue to schedule on Thursday of that week. PLEASE have ready a list of preferred Mass dates and times, along with alternate dates in the event your preferred date is not available. Each family may initially request 1 weekend Mass which includes the Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses along with 3 weekday Masses. Once it is determine that ample time has been given to ensure each family has had an opportunity to schedule, the book will again become available to schedule additional Masses. In keeping with the Diocesan Guidelines, you may schedule only one intention for the same individual or, special intention, within the same week. There is a Diocesan suggested $10.00 stipend request per Mass. Thank you

IN GRATITUDE Many many thanks to all who have supported St. Bernadette School by participating in the 250 Club. We had our final banquet at the Green Oaks Country Club last Saturday. Once again we gave out $7,500 to many winners. The last five winners Steve DeLuca, Annie Kearney, Sandra Rudisill, John Sabat and Erminia Vecchio - split the $5,800. We will let you know how much money will be put into the school Budget once all the bills are paid. Again, thanks to all of you who have joined the club throughout the 22 years. ADORATION In a world where there is so much noise, so much bewilderment, there is a need for silent adoration of Jesus concealed in the Host. Be assiduous in the prayer of adoration and teach it to the faithful. It is a source of comfort and light, particularly to those who are suffering.
