The correct answer is, I want to change. The spiritual and moral life is 100% about change. God the Father sends the Holy Spirit to us at Pentecost and in the Sacrament of Chrismation so that we might be able to contemplate the Lord in the mind and love Him within the sanctuary of the human heart. It is the Holy Spirit who inspires us to change more and more into the image and likeness of God in which we were created. The life of a Christian is to be one continuous metamorphosis or transfiguration into the image and likeness of God. And because God is limitless our ability to become more like Him is limitless. This process goes on forever with the soul after death and later in the reunited soul and body at the General Resurrection and the Last Great Judgment of all the living and the dead. One of the greatest obstacles that impede soul saving change is obstinacy. When we are obstinate we are resistant to the one thing needed which is repentance. The Greek word for repentance is μετάνοια. It means to change the mind or to change the inner person. Far too often the Christian becomes slothful and says, I can t/won t change. This is a serious sin because when a person refuses to change they are stopping the grace of the Holy Spirit and the grace of the other Sacraments from working in them. When we resist change/repentance the Sacraments of Baptism, Chrismation, Eucharist, Matrimony, Unction, and Ordination become static. Of course, all the grace of God is in them but we can t tap into it because we have hardened our wills. We have refused to do what is right which is to repentant/change. At the extreme end of obstinacy, we often find narcissism because the narcissist sees himself as perfect in his excessive self-love and vanity. He will often appear as machismo and cocky or she will appear haughty and conceited. The narcissists in their vainglorious love and fascination with self-lack the humility and grace of God required for change/ repentance. It is truly a pitiful and dangerous spiritual state because when one is blinded by an inordinate interest in self he or she no longer cares about conforming to the holiness God calls them to. They cast off their righteous robe of God s image and likeness and put on the cloak of sin that chains them in the prison of spiritual death. The narcissist lacks the ability to know he or she is a sinner, who is in need of deep and abiding change/ repentance. They don t possess the humility that is so needed for grace-filled introspection. The narcissist s puffed up nature doesn t lend itself to seeing his or her own shortcomings or to see themselves as they truly are. The narcissist, in his or her obstinacy, is spiritually blind to the true sacrificial nature of love. The Holy Spirit is a Person residing in our hearts and He wants His eternal relationship with us to be the most important aspect of our lives. The Holy Spirit seeks our love and He shares His love for the Father and Son with us. The Holy Spirit calls us to enter into the love of the Holy Trinity. If we don t love the Holy Spirit in return we will not be able to sacrifice ourselves for Him. We will not be able to repent/change into God s likeness if we don t love the Holy Spirit more than ourselves. If we don t die to ourselves out of love for the Holy Spirit we cannot become holy as God is holy. Spiritual change can be hard, but it is so rewarding. When we repentant/change ourselves to be more like God inner peace and divine purpose satiate our minds, hearts, and souls. We begin to live in peace: peace with our Lord, peace with the angels, peace with our brother and sister heavenly saints, peace with one another, and peace with ourselves. When we live every day to serve and love the Holy Spirit like St Paul did we to will know, the peace of God, which passeth all understanding (Phil. 4:7).

All of life becomes a Sacrament because as the Trisagion Prayer of the Church instructs us, God is everywhere present and fills all things. Concerning this truth St. Basil says, In everything, the Holy Spirit is indivisibly and inseparably joined to the Father and the Son When you consider creation I advise you to first think of Him who is the first cause of everything that exists: namely, the Father, and then of the Son, who is the creator, and then the Holy Spirit, the perfector. The Author of Creation, the creative Agent, and the Perfector or Sanctifier of all things. The Originator of all things is One: He creates through the Son and perfects through the Spirit. We have been filled with the grace of the Holy Spirit in order to love, obey, and serve Him in His holiness. Once we surrender to Him, He will lead us to unknown heights of spiritual and moral perfection which will reveal in our hearts, minds, and souls otherworldly joy, ecstatic bliss, pure divine love, and life-giving sanctity. May we all have the courage to die to sin in our flesh in order for our hearts, minds, and souls to be resurrected and live in the Holy Spirit s divine and kenotic Trinitarian love. Only an obstinate fool wouldn t want this. In the Holy Trinity s Love, Priest Joseph Liturgical Schedule for July All non-sunday Divine Liturgies begin at 9:30 am unless otherwise noted.
