3 Dear Friends in Christ, We, as a Catholic Church, are constantly affected by civil law. A new labor law will take effect in December. I think, at its heart, it intends to improve the situation of workers here in the United States of America. This law, however, will significantly change how the Catholic Church does business. Because you will be impacted by this law at St. Mary s, I want to share with you some suggestions. The law requires me to exercise great discipline and supervision over the working hours of our employee/ministers. That being said, I ask you to plan as much as possible to get your business done during business hours. It will not be possible in the future for our employees to take business calls on their home phones after hours and to conduct parish business on their own time. Because I saw this situation coming, I decided last year to live close to the church and to publish my cell phone number in the bulletin. For true emergencies and important parish business, please call me anytime. If I am around and not occupied, I will be happy to respond immediately. Please feel free to leave me voice mail messages and messages anytime. I will get back to you just as soon as I can. I regret that I am unable to control this situation in a way that will provide for more ministry instead of less ministry. Actualmente existen en el mundo 983 territorios de misión y en ellos trabajan casi 50,000 sacerdotes y 370,000 catequistas, casados o solteros, que trabajan a tiempo completo o parcial. Todos estos misioneros se han comprometido a anunciar el Evangelio a los 3,500 millones de personas que todavía no lo conocen y que representan las dos terceras partes de la humanidad. Jesus World Mission Sunday. On Sunday, Oct. 23, the universal Church prays for missions and missionaries who are responsible for bringing the Word of God to those who do not know God or who have forgotten about Him. Currently, there are 983 world "mission territories" and almost 50,000 priests and 370,000 catechists, married or single, working full or part time in the missions. All these missionaries are committed to proclaiming the Gospel to the 35 million people (representing two thirds of humanity) who do not yet know God. The work of a missionary is very valuable. MARY'S UNCORKED POP-UP WINE SHOP AND TASTING Join us on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 6-10pm in the school gym. This is a community wine tasting event where, for this one night only, people can purchase the wines they are tasting at the lowest prices around just in time for the holidays. Ticket price includes wine tasting, glass, food and live music. All proceeds benefit St. Mary's school. Tickets and additional information can be found by going to OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL OF MOUNTAIN HOME The 4th Annual Women's Retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 342 E. Call the parish office for more informa on. 5TH ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST Make plans to participate in this fun event on Monday, October 24 from 5-10pm at Payette Brewing Company, now located at 733 South Pioneer Street in Boise. The evening includes Falls Brand bratwurst, compliments of Independent Meat Company. All donations from the bratwurst and half of the beer sales will be donated to St. Mary's Food Bank. QUIET ~ PRAYER ~ CHRIST ~ PEACE ADORERS NEEDED Please consider joining our small group of adorers who spend an hour every Wednesday visiting with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration takes place after the morning Mass until 3:00 pm. We each commit to a specific time, but have substitutes for days we can't be there. Can you commit one hour a week to grow more intimate with Christ? Or, can you sub for adorers who need to be gone for illness, surgery, vacation, etc.? Drop in anytime. The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. 7 Page OMENALDIA MEMORIAL MASS Since the first Omenaldia was held in1996, the Basque community of Boise has gathered annually to remember the loved ones they ve lost during the past year. Fr. Antton Egiguren will celebrate a memorial Mass Sunday, October 30 at 2:30pm at Sacred Heart Church in Boise. If you would like to remember someone who has died since last October, please contact Annie Gavica at A potluck will follow in the church hall. Please bring a hot or cold dish to share. The Omenaldia has become a wonderful way to celebrate the lives of those we ve lost from our community and for those who ve passed away far from their relatives here. Light the Fire Again!
