Special thanks to our youth, David, the choir, and our guest musicians. I think we can all agree that we need to do this again, often! We will plan to do so. Joy is in her office every Tuesday 9-12 & Thursday 1-4. To schedule an appointment call or drjoyblaylock@aol.com. Next Tuesday, May 9, I invite everyone to come over to the synagogue in Regency to hear our Bishop speak at 7pm. In my role as Vice-Chair of the Mobile Christian Jewish Dialogue, I was thrilled to be able to invite Bishop Kendrick and for him to agree to speak. I encourage you to come out and support our Bishop and meet some new friends. It will be an engaging evening, especially if you have never visited the beautiful synagogue and met the wonderful Rabbi Steve Silberman.
ANY offering is sincerely appreciated to rid us of this unexpected debt. The Vestry thanks you for your continued help with this debt. Senior Warden Report May 2, Last Sunday s attendance was 87!!! Super attendance on such a severe weather-threatening day. However, the Good Lord made it a wonderful Camp Beckwith Sunday campout. Food was excellent as always, but the music was phenomenal! Everyone toe-tapping, swaying and moving to the jazzy tunes by two visiting musicians David Ayers brought with him. Thank you, David! It was one to always remember. 2. The deposit for the last Sunday in April is $2,969.00, with Plate and Pledge at $1, Total deposit for April is $22, with the Plate and Pledge total $16, SUPER stewardship and commitment my Redeemer family. You are supporting ALL our ministries with your faithful stewardship. 3. Total offerings for the year are $113, Pledge and Plate offerings total $69, Average offering/month is $28, Pledge and Plate offering/month is $17, Pastor Joy is officially Episcopal as of May 1!!! What a wonderful feeling. Pr Joy and many others worked hard on Saturday on the landscaping (I think she does this to get out of the kitchen). WE are the Blessed recipients of this truly special, nonassuming, humble Priest that Mark Roberts spoke to and hired. 6. Thank you, Mark, for your hard work over the years and unending dedication to Redeemer. In this spirit, thank you to the families, and so many, many, many volunteers and workers over the years that came before me. After reading 10 years of Vestry minutes and mid-week memos, our little church that has more ministries than almost all medium and large Episcopal churches have. Rarely has Redeemer deviated from being the close-knit caring, loving family we are today. The old adage of when the going gets tough or impossible, the Redeemer family picks itself up by the bootstraps and digs in and does the impossible. This why I am here, not only as Senior Warden, but being a part of one of the most unique, special, caring people that I have the pleasure to serve and to do His work that so desperately needs to be done. 7. The Vestry will be looking at some new ideas and committees to help Redeemer further grow, assist our youth, and further beautify our grounds. More to come soon. 4. As you know the Vestry donated $1, to the Capital Campaign Fund and challenged the congregation to do the same or better. Remember,
Hungry Old Guys and Gals Schedule have already caught a game there this year and the stadium has had a few upgrades the field looks great! Thank you to all who helped with McKemie Place. The Grief and Loss Support Ministry: The Grief and Loss support group is available just for you. For information write helpwithyourloss@gmail.com or call (251) Hi folks. I am going to try an arrange another night out at Hank Aaron Stadium on either May 26th or June 16th to take in a baseball game. These are Friday night games that include the fireworks show. If you are interested, reply here to which date you would prefer. The 26th is Memorial Day weekend, but it surely will not be as hot as June 16th. Either way, if you are interested please let me know your thoughts. I can do either and my kids will have fun! We had a very nice showing last year and I heard from folks that they enjoyed the night. I know my family had a nice time. I The Friday Morning Study Group meets in the parish house at 11AM. For the next several weeks the group will be viewing a webcast entitled "Trinity: the Soul of Creation," with Richard Rohr and Cynthia Bourgeault. Bring a bag lunch and join the group every Friday morning for stimulating conversation and spiritual development. INQUIRER'S CLASS We will continue this Sunday with the Creeds. Everyone is invited to join us for this time of learning and reaffirmation. I encourage anyone who would like to be officially received into the
Episcopal Church during the Bishop's Visit this year (June 18) to commit some time to this important process. commitments from a couple of people, but we could use more of those, too. Please be sure to take some laundry home to wash and return. Thanks to all who helped. The Food Pantry: We need cereal, grits, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, canned meats, (no more "helper meals" please- we often have no matches) soup, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned stew, canned meals of any sort - Chef Boyardi etc., macaroni and cheese, dried beans and rice. Thank you! Community Café: Now that we are getting back into the swing of things after the Lenten "break", we really need volunteers to help with our thriving ministry! This week we could really use several more folks in the kitchen starting at 1PM. Cancelled this month: Supper Club and Game Night- too many people going too many places! As usual, servers are needed starting at 5PM, and a cleaning crew is especially welcome as the meal begins to wind down. I have had dessert
Episcopal Church of the Redeemer Sharing Faith Dinners-Thursday, June 1, 2017, at dinner tables all around our diocese. How has Faith Impacted your Life? Join dioceses across the country for an evening of Sharing Faith. This evening of listening and sharing will strengthen your personal relationship and your faith. The evening begins with a simple meal in parishioners' homes and includes a moderated question/response period. Each of us has our own personal stories of faith & sharing these helps others recognize how God is working in their lives. This should be a group of 6-8 people for dinner. Jill Chow is our Convocation I Coordinator. Lois is the coordinator for Redeemer and needs to know if you will host 6-8 people in your home. Simple meal: salad & sandwich, or dessert & coffee, or cheese & crackers. Irene Fawole has asked to be a host. Another option is to have hosts for several table groups in the Parish house that evening for people who have young children. A baby sitter will be provided. Jill will be glad to come to Redeemer for review of the format with the hosts & moderators for each group. Please let Lois know by May 7th if you are interested in participating. I received many wonderful Easter pictures and would love to share them. Google is now limiting the size of the file that I can send. I am going to ask Harry Eckle to post the photos on our website so that all may see the wonderful people we have here as well as all of the activities going on at Redeemer. If you did not have your picture taken for the directory, please speak to Harry about having yours taken. This summer, when I am out of class and the wedding is over I promise to get the directory finished!!! If for some reason your birthday or anniversary has not been mentioned in the bulletin please complete a form that is in the narthex. This is also information for our data base that shows you were here. Many people have contacted us, years later, to move membership to another church. We use these records to write their letters. The Artists Place A NEW JOURNEY During the month of May, the Artists' Place Gallery at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer will be
exhibiting the works of returning artist, Janie Brown with a whole new style. Janie describes her new style as follows: Starting down a new and very different road on my art journey has been exciting and scary. Abstract Expressionism has long intrigued and fascinated me. About two years ago I said, "let's give it a try", and I was immediately hooked. I love the freedom of making random lines and marks, choosing colors and even the uncertainty of where the process will take me. I am learning that each viewer will have a different impression of the work. Abstract art is very subjective and so to connect with a viewer on a personal is my goal as an artist." The exhibit will be on display from April 29 through June 3 and may be viewed, by appointment, by contacting Rob Bearden at Please join us on Sunday, May 21 from 3:00 until 5:00 for a meet-the-artist reception and viewing in Janie's Honor.
