outstanding! You are doing a great job. 3. Total deposits for the year are $73,576.81, with Pledge and Plate at $53, This coming Saturday there will be a work party on the grounds starting at 8 am. a.) Hopefully a tractor with a box leveler will be available to smooth the ground before we plant seed and cover the seed with hay. b.) The Memorial Interment Garden will need a trimming of the bushes and cleanup with a blower. c.) At 10 am a work crew will begin on the Labyrinth. Bob Donnell, our Intern is leading this project. He will need people with edger s, trimmers, a blower, and a wheel barrow. d.) Bill Fletcher and I will pick up more railroad ties to replace the ones that have badly deteriorated and hopefully replace them Saturday. We need 2 or 3 pry bars to lift the old ties. e.) We were advised by our consulting Landscape Architect to lay one pallet of centipede grass at the drainage site to prevent the dirt from getting into the drainage lines and clogging the lines. f.) On the East or Cody road side of the church we will need pole saws to trim the tall bushes and some tree limbs that are too close to the church. This trimming is to prevent squirrels and other rodents from jumping onto the roof to cause any damage. g.) I will have a heavy-duty string trimmer to cut the high grass at the back of the church. h.) There is still painting left to finish the ladies restroom in the church. working like a new unit. I asked Vince, the technician, to check out everything and it passed with flying colors. Total cost of repairs and two days of work was $ Well worth the investment. Without the dishwasher it would be very difficult to acquire rentals. The rentals appear to be paying for the cost of air conditioning and Eddie Alberto s professional cleaning. We will know more in a few weeks. 6. Should anyone need church envelopes, please contact me, Vivian Watt the treasurer. 4 Redeemer is responsible for preparing lunches for the women of McKemie Place for April 19. Since the lunches must be available for women who go to work on the 19th, we need to prepare and deliver them by Tuesday, April 18. The lunches should mainly contain items that don't need refrigeration, although they are able to refrigerate meat sandwiches overnight. There is a signup list on the bulletin board for donations of lunch bag stuffers, such as bags of chips, cookies, juice boxes, as well as donations of bread and lunchmeat (or cash). The plan is to meet in the parish house to assemble 70 lunches at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18. This should take no more than an hour, after which a couple of folks will deliver the lunches to McKemie Place. Please let Lella know (rollread@bellsouth.net or ) if you have any suggestions or questions, and sign up to help if you can. The Grief and Loss Support Ministry: The Grief and Loss support group is available just for you. The group is continuing to meet even though Sue is out for surgery. Blessing to you Sue and a quick return! For information write helpwithyourloss@gmail.com or call (251) The Friday Morning Study Group is on hold until Easter. Plans for Lent. INQUIRER'S CLASS--we have a few people interested in joining the Episcopal Church or deepening their understanding of the history and polity of our faith. We will devote our Round-Table discussions following snacks (in the Parish Hall) to going through the basics of our faith: the Prayer Book, Sacraments, Creeds, History, etc. Everyone is invited to join us for this time of learning and reaffirmation. I encourage anyone who would like to be officially received into the Episcopal Church during the Bishop's Visit this year (June 18) to commit some time to this important process. Stations of the Cross-every Friday at 12:30 outside or in the sanctuary. Guides will be available. 4/13 Maundy Thursday service 7:00 p.m., 4/14 Good Friday-Day of scheduled private prayer in the sanctuary; service 7:00 p.m.
4/16 Easter Sunday: Service of the Resurrection 9:00 a.m. Fr. Michael K. Marsh / May 2, 2014 There will be an Easter Egg Hunt after the service. Kids should bring their own basket for hunting. Harry Eckel will be snapping single or family portraits on Easter morning after the service. We plan to use these in the picture directory we are putting together. Please be sure to stop and have your photo taken. One of the great Easter traditions is the flowering of the cross. People bring and place colorful fresh flowers on a drab wooden cross. What s behind this? Is it just a pretty decoration? Well, it does look beautiful but there are also some beautiful traditions and meanings associated with the flowering of the cross. The tree of life in the Garden of Eden has often been seen as a prefiguring of the cross. Some legends even say that the wood of Christ s cross came from the tree of life or from a tree that grew from seeds of the tree of life. There is another legend that says at Christ s death the cross burst into blooming flowers. Art work from the sixth century shows a flowering cross. I don t know if any of this really happened but I know it all to be true. The point in all this is that the cross of Christ is the new tree of life and every cross now flowers with new life. Death has been defeated and Christ is risen. Alleluia!
We will be sending packages to nine students this semester. Family Promise will be at Redeemer the week of April Volunteers are needed to serve as dinner hosts (prepare and serve the meal and stay with the families for a couple of hours in the evening), overnight hosts (spend the night in the parish house with the families from 8:30PM - 7AM), set up crew (pick up trailer, set up "bedrooms") and laundry folks. There are signup sheets on the bulletin board in the hallway. The Food Pantry: We need cereal, grits, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, canned meats, (no more "helper meals" please- we often have no matches) soup, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned stew, canned meals of any sort - Chef Boyardi etc., macaroni and cheese, dried beans and rice. Thank you! College Care Packages We will be collecting well wishes and goodies for the college exam care packages going out to Redeemer college students in late April. Please sign the "good luck" cards in the parish house, and consider making a donation for the boxes. The students enjoy receiving items such as gum, candies, mints, small snack items, office supplies (pens, post-it notes, etc.), and any other small items that will "help" with exams and remind them that we are thinking of them during this stressful time. We have seen tremendous growth in giving to the capital campaign. We have received gifts totaling $7205! I remain amazed at the commitment we are showing to this obstacle that was thrown in our laps. Special recognition belongs to the folks who continue to coordinate and participate in our Community Cafe. The community cafe transferred $1000 into the capital campaign over the past few weeks!
Conference attendees, and BayLights supporters giving each the opportunity to share about Beckwith and their experiences is encouraged. Wear your camp and Cursillo nametags, or wear your favorite Beckwith shirt. This will be a fun Sunday for everyone. Share your experience on the Camp Beckwith, BayLights, and our Diocesan Facebook pages, go "live", share your videos and photos, tag us in your posts, and use #beckwithsunday. Sharing your day with others expands the celebration. The Rev. Dr. Joy Blaylock named as dean of School for Ministry April 11, 2017 Jenn Johnson, missioner for communications Around the Diocese Pops in the Park-Medal of Honor Park Saturday, April 15, 7:00. Bring a chair and your favorite beverage and/or a snack and come hear Bobby Howell toot his horn. Let others know if you are planning to attend and we can have a Redeemer Gathering. Lee Ann and Lyn are going. Beckwith Executive Director Eleanor Reeves would like to extend her heartfelt invitation for congregations to celebrate Beckwith Sunday on April 30, by using the special Beckwith liturgy and bulletin inserts (recently ed to church leaders). The participation of your summer campers, Cursillo community, ECW and Men's The dream of establishing a diocesan School for Ministry is rapidly coming to fruition. In the Advent edition of Faith Matters, the Rev. Al Pruitt, chair of the School for Ministry Task Force, gave an introduction of this new initiative, citing the school as being a "diocesan response to the need of congregations for ordained ministry." The school is in keeping with, and touches upon, each of our three bonds of mission: discipleship, discernment, and development. With gratitude, we announce that the Rev. Dr. Joy Blaylock will head the School for Ministry as Dean/Canon for Discipleship. The Rev. Dr. Joy Harrell Blaylock currently serves as priest-in-charge at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Mobile, AL. She is wife to Roy and mother to Gabriel, age eleven. Joy received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of South Alabama; an M.A. in Theology at Spring Hill
College; a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology at The Catholic University of America. She attended Lutheran Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC, and was ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America in Joy served as pastor of St. Paul s Lutheran Church from and interim pastor at Forest Hill United Methodist in On May 1, Joy will be received into The Episcopal Church as a priest. Joy s professional career includes: serving as administrator in the Biblical Studies Department during graduate study and then as assistant dean in the School of Religious Studies, Catholic University of America. Joy has taught as an adjunct professor of Theology at The Catholic University of America and Spring Hill College from In prayerfully accepting the position of Dean/Canon for Discipleship, Joy offers this thought: It is my hope that we will embrace the multifaceted challenges facing the church with courage and raw honesty. As we prepare men and women for ministry, we do so with high expectations of traditional academic rigor balanced with the dynamism of practical and authentic spiritual formation. We lift up the bonds of community and pray that the fruits of this work will be faithful and practical for many entities in our diocese and the needs of the ever-changing world around us." The School for Ministry will have its home in the rectory on the campus of St. Agatha's Episcopal Church in DeFuniak Springs and is slated to open to students in the Fall of 2017.
