2 Our communal worship at Mass must go together with our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration in order that our love may be completed! -Saint Pope John Paul II Come and be in the presence of Jesus at Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesday from Noon to 7:00 PM! 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS Bishop Malesic invites all couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary during the calendar year 2018 to participate in a special Golden Jubilee Mass to be held at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 3:00 PM. The Jubilarians, their children, relatives or friends should contact their local parish office to register couples for this celebration. Even though they may not be able to attend the Mass, they will receive a scroll signed by the Bishop commemorating their anniversary. LOVE BASKET FOUNDATION, INC. The Love Basket is a non-profit, all volunteer emergency food assistance program for the people of Indiana County. They are coordinating a mid-year food collection to restock their shelves during the weekend of JULY 21/22, 2018 ONLY! A bin will be placed in the narthex of the church to place the items in. They are especially in need of canned fruits, vegetables, tuna and meats, peanut butter and cereal. We appreciate your assistance in helping them to help the less fortunate of Indiana County! POSITION OPENING DIRECTOR OF LITURGY & MUSIC St. Thomas More University Parish and Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Indiana County, PA are seeking to hire a full-time Director of Liturgy & Music. A candidate must be a Catholic in good standing, must be able to competently play the organ and piano, much be able to direct choral and instrumental ensembles and must have a knowledge of and appreciation for Catholic liturgy, including the RCIA and the celebration of the Sacraments within the life of the parish community. A candidate should be energetic, have good communication skills and be able to multitask. A candidate for this position will be responsible for, but not limited to, planning and executing music for the weekend and holy day liturgies; planning and executing music for weddings, funerals and special events; maintaining, developing & scheduling parish cantors, choir(s), and musicians; interacting with the students, faculty and staff of Indiana University of PA. 4 FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 15, 2018 BEING HOLY TODAY S READINGS First Reading Amos said, The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people (Amos 7:12-15). Psalm Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation (Psalm 85). Second Reading The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3-14 [3-10]). Gospel Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two (Mark 6:7-13). ADULT: What gifts do you have that allow you to serve others in Jesus name? CHILD: Are you holy? Give examples. CALLED BY GOD Today s scriptures invite us to listen to two calls. The first is the call issued by the LORD to the prophet Amos, the shepherd and a dresser of sycamores (Amos 7:14). The second is the call the Lord Jesus issued to the Twelve, whom he sent out two by two (Mark 6:7). These faithful people responded to the call, prophesying and preaching to the people to whom they had been sent. Each of us received a call when we were baptized. The second reading invites us to ponder that call as we are reminded that we are chosen in Christ and that, in love, God destined us for adoption (Ephesians 1:5). As adopted daughters and sons of God we are called to bring the presence of Christ into our marriages, families, schools, and places of work. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION At the time of the Reformation, although England broke away from papal authority under Henry VIII, a silent majority clung to the Catholic faith. Henry s eldest daughter, Mary, restored the old religion in a fierce persecution of Protestants (she is called Bloody Mary for good reason.) His youngest daughter, Elizabeth, rejected papal ties. Under her reign, beginning with legislation in 1593, Catholics were persecuted again, and only the very wealthy could afford the fines for not attending Anglican services on Sunday. They were called recusants, from a Latin word meaning refuse, since they refused to attend the liturgy of the Church of England. Many families maintained Catholic tradition in secret, and today their descendants claim Recusancy as a mark of family pride. For generations they sent their young people abroad to be educated in convents and monasteries. It is not surprising that the first monastery in colonial America springs from Holland with the daughters of patrician English recusant families.
