3 Page Three St. Charles Borromeo Church July 1, 2018 From the Desk of Padre José.. How can I introduce myself to you as your pastor? What can I say to you to give you a glimpse of my personality as your shepherd in this new term for me here at St. Charles Borromeo? Or better said, what would I like for us to dialogue from the beginning so that we may walk by faith together and not be anxious? I will start by saying to each of you, as a family of faith of St. Charles, thank you for being a welcoming community. I have had the pleasure to know Msgr. Gallagher for many years. I came to know Msgr. Gallagher as I came to be a seminarian intern in Norwalk, and he was the principal at St. Paul's High School. The one awesome thing about Msgr. Bob as I know him is his sense of creating community, and making sure that everyone at the table feels welcome. No matter what the occasion was, whenever I would see Msgr. Bob, he has simply always been a welcoming priest that is approachable, likable, loving and prayerful. I simply want to say thank you, Msgr. Bob, for the past 18 years as pastor of St. Charles. I know that your legacy is written in stone in this Church, in the same way that the walls at the Getty continue to house wonderful stories of its works of art and of those who visit them. You have truly done a remarkable ministry here, and I would like to continue touching on your welcoming presence that leads us all to Jesus Christ. Thank you Msgr. Nugent also for being welcoming and Fr. Jeff for truly taking the time to show me around and for guiding the way to a collaborative team. A little bit more about me: I am 47 years old, and I have just recently entered my 20 th year of priesthood. I am the youngest of five siblings. My mother and father have gone before me to see the Lord, and I look forward to seeing them, but not yet. I d like to say that I am approachable, and I am looking forward to my time here at St. Charles, where you have a richness of people and cultures that come and want to be fed by the Eucharist. I have just completed 16 years of service at St. Anthony in Long Beach it was a wonderful time there, and I must admit that it was really hard for me to leave. But I understand the concept of going and preaching the Word of God, and witnessing His mercy wherever He sends me. I am blessed to be here and am humbled by the responsibility. I pray that the feeling of change of new shepherding at this time may be guided by what we hear in our Gospel today: Jesus reminds us not to have fear and to have faith. Let us pray for each other, and may we trust in the gentle presence of the Holy Spirit guiding us to be healed, and that we comfort those who need healing. I would also like for you to pray for me as I try to navigate this awesome transition and dynamic reality of getting to know this parish community that I am called to lead. May you know of my prayers, and for sure know that I will take my time with you in prayer and presence. I would also like to say that I love greeting people after mass please stop by and say hello. Comenazare diciendoles que he tenido el orgullo de conocer al Monseñor Gallagher cuando fui seminarista en Norwalk, y el era el director de la Preparatoria de la Iglesia de San Pablo. Unas de las calidades del Monseñor Bob, a como yo lo conozco, es su sentido de crear comunidad, y de asegurarse de que todos se sientan bienvenidos. Sé que su legado está escrito en piedra en esta iglesia, de la misma manera que las paredes del museo Getty continúan a conservar las lindas historias sobre sus obras de arte y sobre las personas que llegan a verlas. Su ministerio aquí ha sido asombroso, y me gustaría continuar con esa presencia de bienvenida que nos guía a todos hacia Jesucristo. Doy gracias el dia de hoy tambien al Monsenor Nugent y al Padre Jeff por todo su apoyo en esta transicion de parroco. Ellos seguiran siendo parte colaboradora de el equipo en esta parroquia. Se han tomado el tiempo en caminar conmigo. Gracias. Un poco más sobre mi: tengo 47 años, y acabo de cumplir 20 años de sacerdocio. Soy el mas chico de 5 hermanos. Mi mamá y papá se han ido a ver al Señor, y espero volverlos a ver, pero todavía no. Me gustaría decir que soy accesible, y que espero con gusto mi plazo aquí en San Carlos Borroméo, en donde tienen una diversidad de gente y culturas que vienen con el deseo de ser alimentados por la Eucaristía. Acabo de completar 16 años de servicio en la Iglesia de San Antonio en Long Beach fue un tiempo maravilloso, y debo admitir que fue difícil para mi tener que irme. Pero también entiendo el concepto de ir a predicar la Palabra de Dios y de ser testigo de Su misericordia a donde El me mande. Tengo la bendición de estar aquí, y me dirijo a ustedes con humildad por esta nueva responsabilidad que se me ha dado. Le pido a Dios que el sentido de cambio de nuevo pastoreo sea guiado por el evangelio de hoy: Jesús nos recuerda de no tener miedo, sino tener fe. Pidamos el uno por el otro, que confiamos en la presencia suave del Espíritu Santo que nos guía a ser sanados, y que podamos consolar a los que necesitan de su sanación. También me gustaría que ustedes pidan por mi, a como yo trate de navegar esta transición tan grandiosa, y de conocer a esta comunidad a que he sido llamado a guiar. Espero que conozcan de mis oraciones, y que estén seguros de que tomaré mi tiempo con ustedes no solo en oración, pero también en presencia. También me gustaría dejarles saber que me gusta saludar a gente después de misa espero tener la oportunidad de conocerlos y saludarlos a todos. Continuemos a orar el uno por el otro. Y confiando en que Dios proveerá, que comience oficialmente esta jornada. RCIA is a program designed for: Anyone inquiring about the Roman Catholic Church Anyone interested in becoming a Catholic through the Sacrament of Baptism Baptized Catholics seeking completion of the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation Registration will take place on the next two Tuesdays, June 26 and July 3, in the Parish Center from 7 to 8 pm.. 7 Page Seven St. Charles Borromeo Church July 1, 2018 Safeguard the Children GENDER DIVIDES IN CHILDHOOD CAN PERPETUATE ABUSIVE BEHAVIORS Parents of young children have likely heard the phrase boys will be boys many times usually to excuse so-called typical boy behaviors. But this rationalization can extend dangerously through adulthood, to excuse sexual assault and harassment. The messages received by young children have lasting effects. Boys hear that they need to hide their emotions, so if they are abused, they re less likely to come forward. Girls hear that boys can be rough or rude, and learn to tolerate rather than push back. Eliminating this gender divide early may help combat sexual abuse and assault. We remain open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 9 AM to 11:45 AM to serve clients and accept donations. Clients should arrive no later than 11:30 to have time to select clothing. We continue the hot shower and hot breakfast ministry for homeless clients on Thursday mornings during our operating hours.
