3 Page Three St. Charles Borromeo Church July 29, 2018 From the Desk of Padre José.. I have been trying to write the first sentence for this bulletin for the past 24 hours. I knew I had to write and let you know how our Church was vandalized this past Wednesday morning. And I also know I had to inform you about the passing of Msgr. Gallagher less than 24 hours ago. Both of these events are very significant to our parish life. The sound of the broken glass woke me up and very soon after is what you all know and have seen on the news, and as you come today to our Church. We all know the Church is such an important part of our lives and we do not want anything or anyone to hurt it. As I witnessed the Fire Department and the Police Department take as much care of the broken vessels as they did the Church building, I was humbled to witness the respect and the care they were taking of our beloved St. Charles Borromeo Church. The investigation as far as who did it and why is, of course, still going on. I ask that we continue to pray for the individual who broke into our Church and may this person be assisted to find a place to get the needed help. Let us continue praying for all who have shown so much support for us and for our Church. The Church renovation was an awesome undertaking of Msgr. Bob Gallagher. He was very proud of how beautiful and prayerfully the Church was renovated. I know personally he worked a great deal on so many areas here, and how proud he was of the lives he touched and the people that made St. Charles their Faith home. This past Thursday, July 26, 2018; at 11:22AM, Msgr. Bob Gallagher went to see the Lord peacefully here at the rectory. It was his wish to die here surrounded by the people he loved and who loved him. We respected his wishes, and after 26 months with battling cancer, he went to see our merciful God and Father. I had many conversations with him and he was always so strong, even in the end. We had a beautiful Mass the night before at the rectory and in this Mass he received viaticum. It gave him the strength for the last steps of his journey here on earth. He did not know about the vandalism to the Church and he definitely was on a different journey when it happened. Now he knows for sure! And I am sure he is asking our merciful Father to be gentle with us as we continue mourning his passing. He was not a man that wanted to be at the center and did not want us to make a fuss over him. In a sense I am so grateful that he is helping us deal with what is important for us, our Faith in the Risen Lord that helps us through it all. Be at peace Bob, you did well and may the merciful Shepherd welcome you home where there is no more pain, no more suffering and no more tears. I will miss you. We will all miss you and we know that from that very special place, where all there is love you will continue to love us. I would like to share with you the Prayer of Commendation that we will pray at his funeral: Into your hands, Father of mercies, we commend our brother Msgr. Bob Gallagher. In the sure and certain hope that, together with all who have died in Christ, he will rise with him on the last day. We give you thanks for the blessings which you bestowed upon Msg. Bob Gallagher in this life: They are signs to us of your goodness and of our fellowship with the saints in Christ. Merciful Lord, turn toward us and listen to our prayers: Open the gates of paradise to your servant And help us who remain To comfort one another with assurances of faith, Until we all meet in Christ And are with you and with our brother for ever. Sabía que tenía que escribir y dejarles saber que nuestra Iglesia fue banalizada el miércoles en la mañana. Y también sabía que les tenía que informar que Msgr. Gallagher falleció ni hace 24 horas en lo que escribe este boletín. Los dos de estos eventos son significantes en la vida de nuestra parroquia. El sonido del vidrio quebrándose me despertó y muy seguido ya saben ustedes lo que paso, por las noticias y por lo que ven aquí dentro de la iglesia. Todos sabemos que la iglesia es una parte importante de nuestras vidas y no queremos que nadie ni nada la lastime. Mientras veía al departamento de bomberos y policías cuidar de los vasos rotos con el miso cuidado que tenía por el edificio de la iglesia, me sentí honrado al ser testigo del respeto que tenían por nuestra amada iglesia de St. Charles Borromeo. La investigación referente a quién lo hizo y por qué? sigue pendiente. Les pido que sigamos orando por el individuo que entro a nuestra iglesia y que encuentre el lugar necesario para poder recibir la ayuda necesaria. Sigamos orando por todos los que nos han brindado su apoyo. La renovación de la iglesia fue un legado increíble de Msgr. Robert Gallagher. Él estaba muy orgulloso de que tan hermosamente y piadosamente fue renovada la iglesia. Yo sé, personalmente, que el trabajo duro en muchas áreas aquí, y que tan orgulloso estaba de las vidas que toco y de la gente que hizo a St. Charles su hogar de Fe. Este jueves pasado, 26 de Julio a las 11:22 a.m., Msgr. Gallagher se fue a ver a nuestro Señor en paz, dentro de la rectoría. Era su deseo morir rodeado por la gente que amaba y que lo amaba a él. Respetamos sus deseos y después de 26 meses peleando contra el cáncer, se fue a ver a nuestro Dios y Padre misericordioso. Yo tuve muchas conversaciones con él y siempre fue fuerte, hasta en el final. Tuvimos una misa bella la noche antes en la rectoría y en esta misa el recibió viaticum. Le dio la fuerza para terminar su jornada aquí en la tierra. El ni supo del vandalismo de la iglesia y definitivamente estaba en una jornada diferente cuando paso. Ahora, claro que sabe! Y estoy seguro que le está pidiendo a nuestro Padre misericordioso que sea gentil con nosotros mientras seguimos de luto por él. Él no era el tipo de hombre que quería estar en el centro y no quería que hiciéramos un gran lio sobre él. En un sentido estoy agradecido que él nos está ayudando enfrentar lo que es importante para nosotros, nuestra Fe en el Señor resucitado, quien nos ayuda atravesar todo. Está en paz Bob, hiciste bien y que el Pastor misericordioso de la bienvenida a casa en donde ya no hay dolor, no hay sufrimiento y lágrimas. Te extrañare. Todos te extrañaremos y sabemos que desde un lugar especial en donde todo es amor continuaras amándonos. Me gustaría compartir con ustedes la Oración de Recomendación que rezaremos en su funeral: A tus manos, Padre de bondad, Encomendamos el alma de nuestro hermano Msgr. Go over the family rules in advance, and refresh information on the way there. Make sure that everyone follows the buddy system, with at least two people together at all times. Pick a predetermined meet-up site in the event of separations, and show children where they can go for help (information desk, park security). Keep an eye out for any adults that may approach children, and stay on top of children s locations at all times. The shower, haircut, and hot breakfast ministry for homeless clients continues Thursday mornings.
