Baptism class is held the third Thursday of each month at 6:00pm. This can be done at least seven (7) months before the birth in order to make proper sacramental preparations. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Diocesan policy requires a minimum of six (6) months of sacramental preparations for marriage. Engaged couples are invited to call the Pastor for an appointment. HOLY COMMUNION OR ANOINTING OF THE SICK Please call the Pastor if you or any family members are ill or plan to be hospitalized to arrange the reception of the Sacraments. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS - Catechumenate Those interested in becoming a Catholic or in completing their initiation are invited to contact Deacon Keith Hebert at the Church office to learn more about the Catechumenate Process. 2 10th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 10, 2018 PROMISES Today s liturgy is full of promises. The reading from Genesis promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God s will makes us family with Jesus, who forgives all sin and triumphs over evil. Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe really believe that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. We can promise ourselves to combat evil and sin by acting as sisters and brothers not only to the Lord, but to one another as well. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The cathedral is a treasure in a diocese and in our tradition. It is not simply a big church, as some say; some parish churches are larger. What makes a cathedral is the presence of the chair, called a cathedra (Latin for seat) reserved for the bishop. There are many instances in our country of a local church (diocese) outgrowing a cathedral. In Baltimore and St. Louis, the former cathedrals are historic treasures in the heart of the old city, but new and larger structures now function as the seat of the bishop. When a bishop dies or retires, it is said that the seat is vacant, and when the new bishop is installed, the central ritual is the moment when the decree of the Holy Father is read and the new bishop is escorted to the cathedra. No one but the bishop sits in the cathedra during a ritual, but in Los Angeles the cathedra in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is accessible, and no one seems to mind when a visitor tries the cathedra out for the bishop s point of view. 5 ***Seats are still available Private showing for St. Francis of Assisi Parish Pope Francis: A Man of his Word Sunday June 24, 2018 Cinemark Tinseltown Beaumont, TX 2:00 p.m. ***Tickets are $7.57 each and are available in the Church office. We are limited to 63 tickets. The Knights of Columbus presented Lanston Fall an award at our KC meeting, for his heroic action in performing CPR on our Brother Jack Oldani. Lanston told me that over the years at work he had CPR training about three times and he has never had to use it, until recently when Jack Oldani collapsed in our parking lot. Lanston immediately responded to the situation and performed CPR until emergency personnel arrived. Lanston said he doesn t think he is a hero; God put him in a situation and he just responded. I am told the Doctor at the hospital said whoever performed the CPR gave Jack a chance to live. For the Knights that were there that day, we all thought that what Lanston did was heroic because the emergency personnel were later able to get a heartbeat! We wish the ultimate outcome would have been different, but the KC s wanted to recognize our Grand Knight, Lanston Fall, for his unselfish effort to save our Brother! CONVENTION SPONSORSHIP FOR YOUTH There are some youth in need of sponsorship for the upcoming Diocesan Youth Convention. They are fundraising but will still need some help. Some families have two children attending. The approximate cost of Convention is $250. If you are interested in helping sponsor a youth or youths, please send ANY donation you would like to give.
