At the beginning of this month dedicated to Our Blessed Mother we place ourselves once more, under her motherly care, we recommit ourselves to praying the rosary each day, and we honor our own mothers as well. The Family Rosary should be at the heart of our Marian devotions during May and throughout the year. The First Communion candidates will crown the statue of Our Lady of Fatima at both of our First Communion celebrations. We will crown the statue of Our Lady in the courtyard after the 11:00 Mass next Sunday, Mother's Day. Monsignor, Deacon Bob, and I would like to congratulate all the young people and their parents, including those at the Ukrainian Mass who are receiving First Holy Communion. We hope you know how much Jesus loves you, the parish loves you, and so do we! Stay close to HIM by receiving HIM at least every week. Visit HIM in the tabernacle... HE is waiting for you! I received First Communion on May 10, 1959, I still have my prayer book, and I remember the day better than yesterday! I hope you will always remember this special day... Thanks to Carmina and the catechists for their hard work! Please don't forget the Annual Catholic Appeal! We are expected to reach our goal and do our part in supporting the many ministries of the parish. All pledges must be paid by December If everyone does something we will exceed our goal. Don't forget the Card Party/Raffle Night... It is our major FundRaiser of the year. We are hoping to pay for the new boiler in the rectory with the proceeds from this great night... We need YOU! Make your reservations for the parish trip to the Cyclones on Sunday, June 24 at 4pm. It should be an enjoyable afternoon. I encourage everyone to contribute on a regular basis to the financial support of the parish... Without everyone's support, we're in big trouble. Air conditioning season is about to begin; everyone expects the church to be cool... it is very expensive and the system is old and fragile... please!!! We invite all adorers to sign the adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. If everyone would come for even one half hour of adoration each week we would be able to fill our schedule. We will have adoration Monday through Saturday from 9-4 pm and Fridays till 7 pm. We believe that Eucharistic Adoration will transform the parish. Come and spend quality time with Jesus. He dwell with us full of grace. WOMEN S PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY OF ST. BRENDAN Women who enjoy and know how to crochet are invited to pray and work with us crocheting wheel-chair blankets and shawls to be given to Seniors at the Residence of Saints Joachim and Anne. Bring your crochet hook and favorite pattern. We meet each Wednesday from 1 pm 2 pm in the Villani Center of St. Brendan s Rectory. WE HAVE A WINNER! Jesús nos dice: ámense unos a otros como yo los he amado (Juan 15:12). La carta del apóstol san Juan retoma este mandamiento. Por supuesto, debemos amar a nuestros familiares, nuestros colegas, las personas que nos agradan. Pero la Sagrada Escritura aclara que también debemos amar a los que ignoramos, a los que evitamos deliberadamente e incluso a los que nos sentimos tentados de despreciar. En la selección de los Hechos de los Apóstoles para este domingo, Pedro nos muestra hasta dónde llega el amor de Dios y hasta dónde debe llegar nuestra respuesta de amor. Pedro comprende que Dios ya no hace distinciones y no comparte su amor divino exclusivamente con los judíos. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Durante la Última Cena, Jesús dijo a sus apóstoles: Yo soy la vid, ustedes son los sarmientos (Juan 15:5). Jesús añade que los sarmientos (ramas) que permanecen en él, dan mucho fruto. Según la agricultura, la vid es una parra, es decir, una planta perenne de ramas frondosas. Una parte importante de la vid son las hojas. Es obvio que una vid tiene hojas, pero Jesús no las menciona, prefiere enfocarse en los sarmientos. Las partes de la vid son las raíces, tronco, sarmientos, hojas, flores y fruto. Según esta división Jesús sería el tronco, pero él dice ser la vid completa. Esta es una imagen de la unidad que Jesús quiere entre sus seguidores. Recordemos que Jesús celebra la Última Cena con sus discípulos. La comunidad de discípulos unidos a Jesús formamos la vid. Los sarmientos o ramas conducen agua y minerales a las hojas, flores y frutos, y son útiles en tanto estén unidos a la vid. Lo mismo vale de los cristianos, discípulos de Jesús. Spanish Baptisms are celebrated on the fourth Saturday of the month. All Baptisms are celebrated at 12 Noon. Arrangements must be made in advance with a member of the Pastoral Staff. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS is a process for adults who wish to be baptized into the Catholic faith. Information about this program, or about reception of First Eucharist and Confirmation for adults, is available at the Rectory. MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least six months in advance and participation in the Diocesan Pre- Cana Program is required. Offering is $500 with or without music. SICK AND HOMEBOUND: Eucharistic Ministers are available to bring Holy Communion to those unable to come to Mass. In the event of serious illness please request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. PARISH REGISTRATION: All parishioners are asked to register so that we may know you and provide reference letters when necessary.
