These words from the Book of the prophet Isaiah are a sign of welcome, a source of comfort, and a challenge to each of us! They should give a strong impetus to all of our efforts at Evangelization... Are we a house of prayer for all people? Do we go out of our way to welcome new members or visitors? Do all who worship here feel at home, part of our family of faith? If not, why not? What do we need to work on? It takes everyone to build a truly welcoming and evangelizing parish... Pope Benedict used to say that joy is the sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit! Is there joy here? Joy heals, strengthens and unites! Are we filled with and do we share the joy of the Spirit? Lots to think about... much to do! God gives us all the gifts we need to be a welcoming reconciling community. As St. Paul says: " the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable!" Everything we need to fulfill God's call is already present in our parish... we need to stir things up so that the fire of the Spirit burns brightly in our parish. I strongly believe in the power of Eucharistic Adoration to transform every one of us and to transform the parish. If everyone could spend at least a half hour of adoration each week we could expand the hours from 9:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 7:00p.m. on Friday evenings. There will be sign up boards in the lobby beginning next weekend. Jesus is Waiting! This weekend we welcome representatives from Rosary for Life. They will have materials available in the lobby and ask for your support for their beautiful ministry. I'm sure we are all horrified by the many acts of violence, racism, and prejudice, which have become like a plague on our country... We know the Gospel... we are disciples of Jesus... all forms of violence, racism, and prejudice are deplorable and unacceptable... we must reflect the teachings, the mercy, the respect that Jesus teaches in our actions as well as our words... AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) A person who suffers a heart attack and goes into cardiac arrest has only 6 minutes before the brain starts to die. An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) can be a real life saver. The St. Brendan's Men's Prayer Group is spearheading a fundraising drive to equip our church with an AED and provide the training to use it. Please help us to make this project possible. So far the members of the Fundraising Committee have raised $1,668. You can drop donations in the rectory anytime between 9 am-8 pm, Monday through Friday. Cash or check will do. We invite all adorers to sign the adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. If everyone would come for even one half hour of adoration each week we would be able to expand the hours of adoration from 9-4 pm Monday to Saturday and until 7 pm on Friday Jesus is waiting. Miracles happen. evenings. Make a Holy Hour. Saint Brendan Vocation Committee! Bishop DiMarzio has proclaimed a special YEAR OF VOCATIONS beginning on August 4th, the Feast of Saint John Vianney. In preparation for this special year, we need to form a Parish Vocations Committee to pray for, promote, identify, and encourage young people to consider a vocation to the priesthood, diaconate, or consecrated life. We need to form a team willing to encourage daily prayer for vocations, make materials available and encourage our young people to ask themselves if they think God might be calling them to a life of service in the church. God never stops calling, we need to learn to listen Throughout the Year of Vocations, our statue of St. John Vianney will be in the chapel as a reminder for all of us to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and the religious life for our diocese and from our parish. Beginning Sunday, October 1, we will have two icons of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests at Mass. Each week we will invite someone from the Spanish speaking community and English speaking community to take the icons home and promise to pray for vocations with their family and friends throughout the week. The icons will be returned to the rectory the following Saturday. There will be a sign up sheet in the rectory if you would like to participate in this beautiful prayer for vocations.

We have a special need for volunteers to work both for our Sunday school classes and for the Thursday night Confirmation program. We offer free ongoing and professional training. As a Catechist, you will discover that prayer, liturgy and your own relationship with God will become more vibrant and meaningful. If you are interested please call Fr. Peter or Carmina De La Rosa. En el salterio y en otras escrituras hebreas, este tipo de invocación es en realidad una invitación a Dios para que actúe e intervenga en las vidas humanas de tal manera que haga que todos no sólo el Pueblo Elegido exprese alabanzas. Dicho algo más fuerte, es como desafiar a Dios para que aguante o se calle, el tipo de palabras duras que los salmistas de Israel, confiando en su íntima relación de amor con Dios, no temían expresar. El Evangelio tiene su propia exclamación que anuncia la aparición de la mujer cananea con un Entonces (Mateo 15:22). Entonces o he aquí es una señal en la Biblia que nos indica que observemos con mucha atención, que Dios está por actuar o anunciar algo por medio de un individuo o una situación. En el caso de Jesús, Dios iba a obrar a través de esta mujer, a quien ninguno de los seguidores de Jesús hubiera creído pudiera ser una agente de la voluntad divina. Como los salmistas, puede que informemos en forma pasiva a Dios o quizás hasta activamente le desafiemos para que haga algo para que todos lleguen a creer, mas Dios siempre nos volteará las posiciones. Se convierte en nuestro llamado, nuestro deber (como lo fue para Jesús) observar atentamente las situaciones y a las personas en nuestra vida diaria para que Dios pueda actuar a través de nosotros, para que el Reino sea anunciado en nuestro diario vivir. Baptisms are celebrated in English on the second Saturday of the month. Spanish Baptisms are celebrated on the fourth Saturday of the month. All Baptisms are celebrated at 12 Noon. Arrangements must be made in advance with a member of the Pastoral Staff. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS is a process for adults who wish to be baptized into the Catholic faith. Information about this program, or about reception of First Eucharist and Confirmation for adults, is available at the Rectory. MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least six months in advance and participation in the Diocesan Pre- Cana Program is required. Offering is $500 with or without music. SICK AND HOMEBOUND: Eucharistic Ministers are available to bring Holy Communion to those unable to come to Mass. In the event of serious illness please request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. PARISH REGISTRATION: All parishioners are asked to register so that we may know you and provide reference letters when necessary.
