We have 17 candidates this weekend at the 11:00 Mass, and 41 next Saturday at 11:00. The Ukrainian community has 40 young people for their first Solemn Communion this weekend. What a great blessing to the parish! Let's pray that they continue to come to Mass each week and to receive Jesus faithfully and reverently throughout their lives. We will celebrate the Crowning of the Statue of Our Blessed Mother in the courtyard next Sunday after the 11:00 Mass. Once again we encourage you to bring an image or statue of Our Lady from your home country for the procession. There will be tables for the statues and images near the front pews. Please help make our annual Raffle Night/Card Party a great success. Tickets are for sale at the Rectory during office hours. We still need prizes for the raffles. Tickets for the 110th Anniversary Dinner Dance on Friday, September 29th at Gargiulo's are now available. Please encourage all of our present and former parishioners as well as alumni from our schools to join us for an enjoyable evening. Plan to join us for our Parish Pentecost Picnic on Sunday, June 4th, after the 11:00 Mass. There will be an inflatable house and slide for the kids, face painting, food for sale, a DJ, dancing and other activities. We invite you to consider bringing food to share. The picnic will be in the church courtyard and the rectory parking lot. More details in the weeks ahead. SAVE THE DATE! During this month dedicated to Our Blessed Mother, I encourage you to pray the rosary each day, after Mass, with your family, or on your own. Mary has promised that the Rosary is the path to peace. As of Tuesday, we were still awaiting the arrival of the new Celebrant's Chair. We have placed a Tabernacle for the Blessed Sacrament on the former chair platform. It is a reminder that He is the center of our lives and the life of the parish. I hope you enjoy the beautiful banners prepared by our first communicants and their families. Once again, we would like to thank all those who made generous gifts or pledges to the Generations of Faith Campaign last spring. Together we far exceeded our assigned goal. Your generosity will allow us to accomplish much needed work in and around the parish buildings. Please be faithful in paying off your pledges. We just received the first disbursement from the Generations of Faith fund. The money has been used for the new fence and will be used to mark the parking spaces and other necessary repairs. ST. BRENDAN CARD PARTY MAY 19, 2017 CARD PARTY GIFTS NEEDED We are in need of gifts for our annual Card Party. If you would like to donate a gift please call the Rectory and let us know. We are also in need of some nice wicker baskets and any unopened liquor bottles for our Basket of Cheer. The success of our Card Party depends on the generosity of our parishioners and friends. TODAY S READINGS First Reading All peoples called by God will receive the gift of the Spirit if they repent and are baptized (Acts 2:14a, 36-41). Psalm The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want (Psalm 23). Second Reading Once we were like straying sheep; but now we have been returned to the shepherd, our guardian (1 Peter 2:20b-25). Gospel The shepherd leads the sheep out into pastures of abundant life (John 10:1-10). VOCATIONS On this Good Shepherd Sunday we celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life, especially for our diocese, that God will raise up good shepherds in our midst. Bishop DiMarzio has proclaimed a special YEAR OF VOCATIONS beginning on August 4 th, the Feast of Saint John Vianney. In prepara on for this special year, we need to form a Parish Voca ons Commi ee to pray for, promote, iden fy, and encourage young people to consider a voca on to the priesthood, diaconate, or consecrated life. We need to form a team willing to encourage daily prayer for voca ons, make materials available and encourage our young people to ask themselves if they think God might be calling them to a life of service in the church. Would you like to help start this commi ee here at Saint Brendan? Please call Father Peter as soon as possible. We would like to begin mee ng during May. God never stops calling, we need to learn to listen The second collection for this weekend will be for Catholic Relief Services. The second collection for the weekend of May 13 & 14 will be for the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT We are still in need of more volunteers to cover each hour as well as for many people to stop in and visit with Jesus during Adoration time. We encourage you to come a few minutes early to sign the Adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. Make a Holy Hour. ST. BRENDAN PENTECOST PICNIC Sunday, June 4 12:30 PM - 4 PM In the Church Courtyard and Rectory Parking Lot We celebrate the birth of the Church and the Gift of the Spirit. We would like to celebrate the unity and diversity in our parish family with a PARISH PICNIC in the church courtyard and rectory parking lot after the 11:00 Mass. Obviously we will need a lot of help in planning and organizing an event like this. We would like to have food representing our many cultures, music, activities for our teens and young people. 5 May 7, 2017 ST. BRENDAN ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH Sunday, June 18, is the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ. It is a great tradition in the church to celebrate the day with a Procession and Benediction at a number of outside altars. It would be great to have the presence of our 1st Communicants and Confirmandi and all of our parish groups. The procession would take place after the 11:00 Mass with 3 altars along the way. We hope that a number of groups or groups of friends would prepare and decorate the altars for benediction with flowers, flags, and other decorations. Please think about it. 7 May 7, 2017 ST. BRENDAN ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH PAGE SEVEN BAPTISMS: We celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism twice each month. Baptisms are celebrated in English on the second Saturday of the month. Spanish Baptisms are celebrated on the fourth Saturday of the month. All Baptisms are celebrated at 12 Noon. Arrangements must be made in advance with a member of the Pastoral Staff. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS is a process for adults who wish to be baptized into the Catholic faith. Information about this program, or about reception of First Eucharist and Confirmation for adults, is available at the Rectory. MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least six months in advance and participation in the Diocesan Pre- Cana Program is required. SICK AND HOMEBOUND: Eucharistic Ministers are available to bring Holy Communion to those unable to come to Mass. In the event of serious illness please request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. PARISH REGISTRATION: All parishioners are asked to register so that we may know you and provide reference letters when necessary. The Pajama Program is a non-profit organization in NYC that provides pajamas and books to those children in need.
