Joshua Dear parish family! Thank you so much to all the parents who worked so hard preparing our children and young people to represent the saints and angels last Sunday! I was overwhelmed by the number of our young people who participated and by the amazing outfits they wore. It was a great celebration and I'm sure everyone learned a lot. I can't wait for next year! Thanks to our catechists who represented many great saints! Thank you Emmanuel for reminding us that we are all called to be saints! The Hospitality after Mass was amazing! I am grateful to all the members of the Spanish Mass Community for your hard work and generosity in preparing great food for all of us. What a day! La hospitalidad despues de la misa fue increibile. We are now collecting food to help families at Thanksgiving. The list of needed items is in the bulletin. All food donations can be placed on the table in front of St. Brendan. The Parish Council meeting on Monday evening at 7p.m. is an important one! A representative of Our Sunday Visitor will be here to speak to us about a Stewardship Program that I hope we can conduct after the holidays. We are a parish that serves the parish family and community in many ways... We need your help to continue doing what we do well! This weekend, Jesus teaches us the path to blessedness, the road to true happiness. When we live according to the beatitudes we find the inner peace that only Jesus can offer. Living the beatitudes also empowers us to heal the broken world in which we live! Tickets for our Winter Raffle are now on sale! Please help make this annual event a big success. There are a number of books and St. Brendan items available at the display counter in the lobby. Proceeds help support our Faith Formation Programs and our Youth Ministry! An increasing number of people are visiting the chapel each day. I urge everyone who is home during the hours of Adoration to commit to a specific hour each week. Help us fill the schedule. Eucharistic Adoration invites us into a deeper relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist. It is a great source of strength, peace, and healing! Please join us! Jesus is waiting... I hope we are all committed to evangelizing our family, friends, and neighbors... Jesus continually invites us to gather with Him for the Eucharist. There are more than enough Catholics in the neighborhood to fill every Mass... We can't feel bad about the number of people who come to church if we aren't trying to do something about it! People will come to Jesus through the power of good example. This week is National Vocation Awareness week... Please pray for vocations and talk about the importance of the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life... BRENDAN ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH November 5, 2017 As the redemption period of Generations of Faith continues we would like to thank all those who have been faithful in fulfilling their pledges. We recently received a disbursement check of $17, which partially reimburses the parish for the money spent in repairing the front steps. We have also been informed that there is a fairly significant group of people who have not kept up with their pledges. The income from the campaign is critical to the financial health of both the diocese and the parish. Please do the best you can to fulfill your commitment. Make a Holy Hour. ADVENT PARISH MISSION AT ST. BRENDAN S Stop the presses!! Starting Sunday evening, December 3rd and ending Wednesday night, December 6th for a mission being held here in our parish. Catholic Lay Missionary and Evangelist, Bill Wegner, from Good News International will be leading this year s mission. The theme is DARE TO BE HOLY! It will be a special time of renewal for our entire community. Plan to be there... and bring a friend! Morning sessions will also follow the 8:30 am Mass on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Help us reach out to families in our parish and community who are in need at this time of the year. We invite you to bring boxed and canned foods we can share and place them on the table in front of St. Brendan. Help us build up our food supply. Please check the expiration dates of all food donated. If you would like to donate a turkey for us to share with a family for Thanksgiving, frozen turkeys can be brought to the rectory during office hours. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT We are always in need of more volunteers to spend time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration each week. We invite all adorers to sign the adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. If everyone would come for even one half hour of adoration each week we would be able to fill our schedule. We will have adoration Monday through Saturday from 9-4 pm and Fridays till 7 pm. We believe that Eucharistic Adoration will transform the parish. Come and spend quality time with Jesus. Experience his healing presence. Remember, Jesus is waiting. Miracles happen. Biblical Reasons for wanting to spend one hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament: Each moment that you spend in His Eucharistic Presence will INCREASE HIS DIVINE LIFE WITHIN YOU and deepen your personal relationship and friendship with Him. I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly. I am the Vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in union with Me shall bear much fruit for without Me, you can do nothing. In many parishes, the altar linens [purificators, corporals, finger towels, altar cloths, albs] are cleaned by volunteers from the parish. Recently our linens have been done by the rectory housekeeper. We would like to return this important task to a volunteer ministry in the parish. AED NEWS According to an article in the October, 2017 AARP Bulletin: More than 300,000 Americans die each year from sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospitals, but many of them could be saved by everyday heroes such as you. Cities across the U.S., are installing automated external defibrillators (AED) in many public places. These devices, found in wall cabinets just like fire extinguishers, can shock the heart and literally bring a person back to life. The problem with waiting until medical help arrives is that every minute of delay lowers the chance of survival by 7 to 10 percent, according to the National Heart Association report. Our next CPR/AED training/information session is being held on Wednesday, November 8th in The Clonfert Center from 4 pm to 7 pm. The 3 hour course, features PowerPoint and Video presentations and hands-on exercises that will provide you with the knowledge, and the confidence, to use an AED. Church volunteers such as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, and Scout Leaders are encouraged to attend. St. Brendan parishioner, Dr. Ramiro Cadag, who is certified AISHE Instructor, will be teaching the class. Please wear comfortable clothes.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Esta semana celebramos la memoria de la Iglesia madre de la cristiandad. Por extraña coincidencia, no está en Jerusalén donde nació la Iglesia, tampoco es la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano, donde está el sepulcro (o la tumba) de san Pedro. Esta iglesia es la Basílica que está dedicada a la memoria del Divino Salvador, a san Juan Bautista y a san Juan Evangelista. Fue la primera basílica consagrada en el año 324 al culto cristiano en Roma. De allí ha tenido una larga trayectoria, y aunque es la catedral del obispo de Roma, el Papa se trasladó al Vaticano en 1377, luego de que el papado estuvo durante un período de 100 años en Francia. Al recordar la consagración de la Basílica de Letrán no debemos olvidar lo que dice san Pablo: Cada uno de nosotros somos un templo del Espíritu Santo (1 Corintios 6:19). En un sueño, Inocencio III vio que Letrán estaba por caerse, pero san Francisco pudo sostenerla en pie. Ojalá que cada vez que nosotros estemos por caer, llegue alguien que nos pueda sostener como templos de Dios. Baptisms are celebrated in English on the second Saturday of the month. Spanish Baptisms are celebrated on the fourth Saturday of the month. All Baptisms are celebrated at 12 Noon. Arrangements must be made in advance with a member of the Pastoral Staff. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS is a process for adults who wish to be baptized into the Catholic faith. Information about this program, or about reception of First Eucharist and Confirmation for adults, is available at the Rectory. MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least six months in advance and participation in the Diocesan Pre- Cana Program is required. Offering is $500 with or without music. SICK AND HOMEBOUND: Eucharistic Ministers are available to bring Holy Communion to those unable to come to Mass. In the event of serious illness please request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. PARISH REGISTRATION: All parishioners are asked to register so that we may know you and provide reference letters when necessary. APPOINTMENTS TO SEE A PRIEST: If you would like to meet with a priest of the Parish, please call the Rectory for an appointment.
