It is an important avenue for our young to become involved in the spiritual life of the Church and to understand the reward of serving others and their community. Who can be an Altar Server? Any boy or girl who has received his or her First Communion. The commitment is usually once a month. Come and check it out! Altar Server Annual Pizza and Ice Cream Social November 11, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Bullock Center. Come and meet newly trained and veteran Altar Servers. Bring your siblings! We are very proud of all our wonderful Altar Servers who dedicate their time to the service of our Parish and make our Masses special. Thanks to all of you! To register or get more information, please contact Fabiola Aguilera at ext or faguilera@olossharon.org Mandatory Veteran Altar Server Refresher Training November 11 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Due to all the changes our parish has experienced over the past year, Father Vinnie has decided to hold a refresher training for all altar servers. He has asked us to consider it mandatory for the elementary and middle school servers, and optional for the high school students. This re-training will allow Father Vinnie to meet the servers and go over standard procedures with them, as well as give the servers a chance to ask him questions.

Parishioners are also invited to include names of family members and friends who died during the past year but whose funerals were celebrated elsewhere. The Mass will include a reading of the names of all those we are remembering. May this be, for those who grieve, an experience of comfort in their sorrow and great hope for the future. Please contact Chris Muldoon ( or cmuldoon@comcast.net) if you need additional information, have questions about the Mass, or would like to include the name of someone who died in the past year but whose funeral was celebrated other than here at the parish. Virtus Protecting God s Children Training, November 12. At OLOS, we are so grateful to the many adults who volunteer at the parish in so many different ways. Our parish wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for the commitment and support of so many wonderful adult volunteers. All volunteers in the US Catholic Church are required to complete a CORI form and participate in a one-time training course entitled, "Protecting God's Children". Once an adult participates in this training program, he/she will be able to chaperone a church event for young people under the age of 18 and/or participate in one of the parish's many service projects where children or young people are present. The training is scheduled for November 12, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Bullock Center. All adults in the parish who have not already participated in this course are invited to attend. To register, please contact Fabiola Aguilera at faguilera@olossharon.org or x1036. November 1, 2015

Saturday, November 14 from 9:00 a.m. 12:00 Noon Cadigan Alumni Center, Brighton Campus This morning of reflection unpacks the art and skills of discernment, a gift understood by St. Ignatius of Loyola as a partnership with God in both shaping our personal lives and impacting the greater Church and world. This happens as a daily process of listening to God s desires and in learning the language of God s Spirit in dialogue with God about how we want and need life to unfold. The skills of discernment also guide us in times of decision making, e.g. Do I want to spend my life with this person? What career path should I take? How do I know if my decision was a good one? This session introduces the principles and practices of discernment with attention to life application. Barbara Quinn is STM Associate Director for Student Formation. Light refreshments will be served. $10 per person. The cost to attend is Cosponsored by the Boston College Alumni Association and the School of Theology and Ministry For more information, please call or visit Advent Evening Prayer Advent Evening Prayer will be held during the season of Advent each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the church, December 2, 9, 16 and 23. 5 Sharon, MA From Senior Deacon Mike From Deacon Mike: Each of us has a collective memory of mourning the death of a loved one, a significant public servant who died in the course of his/her service for our country, and those whose lives were curtailed by the onset of pathology. Each of us might remember the death of a family member to whom we credit for our own existence. Each of us might focus on a particularly difficult time when death was not expected. We all might pause for these memories and await the healing of memories as the Spirit of God acts. New Parishioners Welcome Coffee Hour Please join us to welcome our newly registered parishioners into Our Lady of Sorrows community at the Coffee Hour on Sunday, November 8, after the 8:30 Mass. Saint of the Week Charles Borromeo, November 4 St. Charles Borromeo was born of a wealthy Italian family and was the nephew of Pope Pius IV. At the age of twenty two, he was summoned to Rome and made cardinal and administrator of the Papal states and the archdiocese of Milan. Despite his personal wealth, St Charles lived a simple, ascetic life and was a strong supporter of church reform. In 1564 he was ordained a priest and consecrated as bishop. He founded seminaries and instituted the teaching of doctrine to children in Sunday schools. Never one to ask of another something he was not prepared to do himself, St Charles worked tirelessly to help those in need. Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Spirituality of Stewardship Receiving God s Gifts gratefully; Nurturing God s Gifts responsibly; Sharing God s Gifts in love and justice; Returning God s Gifts generously. Collection October 25 The average cost to run the parish is $11,732 per week and our expectation is that 69% ($8,095) will come from the weekly offertory. On October 25, the parishioners contributed $6,386. Sharon Interfaith Thanksgiving Service On November 22, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish will have the honor of hosting the Sharon Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 7 p.m. Susanne Osberg is choosing music for the evening and will lead the Interfaith Choir which will gather at 5:30 p.m. for practice. We need a small group of volunteers to help prepare and serve a collation for the service and others to be greeters at the church doors. Please contact Fr. Vinnie at padre@olossharon.org or Fabiola Aguilera at faguilera@olossharon.org as soon as possible or call Popping Our Corks As we prepare for the Advent Workshop, we need to collect corks for one of the craft activities and would appreciate your help with donations. There is a box in the back of the church marked Corks where you can place your donations. Thank you for your help! Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. We encourage all our parishioners who worship with us to register. Our registry is a vital source of connection we use to communicate and build community.
