Communion Song: #916 I Receive the Living God Sending Forth Song: #677 A Living Faith 250th Anniversary Parade of Sharon Want to be part of something really big? One of the largest flags you will ever see will be in the 250 th anniversary parade of Sharon on Sunday, September 20. It is 90 feet across. Fifty flagbearers are needed to unfurl it at the reviewing stand at Sharon Town Hall and hold it horizontally while patriotic music fills the air. Flag-bearers should arrive at 1:15 p.m. at Town Hall (90 South Main Street) for instructions from the flag s curator before spreading out the flag. After the ceremony, they will roll up the long edges slightly and join in the parade, which starts at 2:00 p.m., and carry the flag to Sharon High School. The flag weighs 200 pounds so that is only 4 pounds per person. Kids of maybe 8 or older can do it. The task will be over around 3 p.m. The flag ceremony is a project of the Rotary Club of Sharon, but many other hands are needed. If you would like to help, contact your fellow parishioner Mike Molyneux at (508) or mmolyneux76@gmail.com. Our parish wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for the commitment and support of so m a n y w o n d e r f u l a d u l t v o l u n t e e r s. All volunteers in the US Catholic Church are required to complete a CORI form and participate in a one-time training course entitled, "Protecting God's Children". Once an adult participates in this training program, he/she will be able to chaperone a church event for young people under the age of 18 and/or participate in one of the parish's many service projects where children or young people are present. The training is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bullock Center. All adults in the parish who have not already participated in this course are invited to attend. To register, please contact Fabiola Aguilera at faguilera@olossharon.org or ext

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY: Office Manager is searching for a faith-filled, dedicated person who enjoys working with the public. Strong communication, organizational, accounting and computer skills are required, in addition to flexibility. Seeking candidates comfortable with social media and interested in contemporary Catholic thought. If you are interested, please visit our website for a full job description (www:olossharon.org) and contact Mary Herx-Morrill at mherxmorrill@olossharon.org or Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Absolutely ANYONE can volunteer! Any member of our community is welcome to assist in the education and formation of our youth. In the process, your relationship with Jesus will grow too. Our youth need YOU as a caring role model who can help guide them on their faith journey. You don t need to have all the answers; just a heart filled with the Spirit and an ability to connect with young people. THANK YOU to the many volunteers who have joined our Faith Formation team as Catechists and Small Group Facilitators, as Chaperones and Substitute Teachers! Being of service to our OLOS community is an inspiring sign of the Spirit at work and of our imitation of Jesus in service. We do still need volunteers. High school and college students, parents who enjoy time with younger people, empty nesters, ALL ARE WEL- COME to volunteer. Please contact Mary Herx-Morrill at x1038 or mherxmorrill@olossharon.org Thank you! A Note from Kerry Thank you so much for this special day and special memory. OLOS is the most Spirit-filled, welcoming, loving and supportive parish I have ever belonged to. You make people feel like family. I thank God for sending me here. These have been the best 18 years of my life. To all the young people, you have been a huge gift to me over the years. I have appreciated and valued your passion and your energy. Your energy is contagious and it always helped to inspire me. I will miss you the most. To all the parents, thank you for sharing your children with me and for your encouragement and generosity over the years. OLOS could not offer the many great programs that we offer without you. I appreciate your trust in me. To all parish leaders, parish members and parish staff, thank you for taking a chance on me and for your friendship, trust and love. There is no doubt that I am a better Catholic and person because of all of you. You all played an important role in my ministry and I remain grateful. Lastly, thank you to my family who lovingly and willingly supported me over the years; my husband Mark, children Mark, Devin and Drew, parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. While I leave my position as Youth Ministry Director, I remain a parishioner so this is not a farewell. I began school last Monday at Coyle and Cassidy High School and I have enjoyed meeting my students. So far the experience has been great. All the wisdom and memories that I have gained from you are coming with me to Coyle and Cassidy. Peace to you all on the journey as we continue to do God s will. Kerry Payson
5 From Senior Deacon Mike Questions, questions: Often I am asked why the priest or deacon pours water into the chalice in which there is wine to be consecrated. The following prayer indicates a doctrinal statement about our belief in the divinity AND humanity of Christ. By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Care for Our Common Home: Laudato Si An interdisciplinary committee at Boston College is hosting a week-long conference on the campus from September 28 through October 1 focused on many aspects and implications of Laudato Si. All of the conference programs are free of charge and open to the public. What a wonderful way to explore our faith and ways to put it into action! All the details are located at commonhome. Below is a summary of the three evening keynote events. Monday, September 28, 4:30 p.m., Robsham Theater The Canisius Lecture Sustainable Humanity, Sustainable Planet His Eminence Peter Turkson, Cardinal of Ghana and president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace Tuesday, September 29, 4:30 p.m., Robsham Theater Avoiding Extinction: The Role of COP21 Graciela Chichilnisky, visiting professor of economics, Stanford University, professor of economics and mathematical statistics and director, Columbia Consortium for Risk Management, Columbia University Wednesday, September 30, 4:30 p.m., Robsham Theater The Theology and Ethics of Sustainability Erin Lothes Biviano, assistant professor of theology, the College of St. Elizabeth, and Willis Jenkins, associate professor of religious studies and director of graduate studies, University of Virginia.
