2 Annual Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows November 6, 2015 at 11am Today during the 11:00 AM Mass, we remember in a special way our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest. A special remembrance is given to those whose funerals were celebrated here during the past year and also to family members and friends of parishioners who died during the past year but whose funerals were celebrated elsewhere. Our expectation is that 70% or $6,800 will come from the weekly offertory. Parishioners contributed $7,179 for the week ending October 30th. 2nd Collection Nov. 6th Campaign for Human Development This week s second collection is for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, which works to uphold the dignity of human life by breaking the cycle of poverty across the United States through grants to local community-based groups who create jobs, improve education, and strengthen neighborhoods. 25% of the CCHD collection stays in the Archdiocese of Boston to fund local anti-poverty projects; 75% supports national grant and education programs. For more information, please visit Grand Annual Collection Underway Last week we began our Grand Annual Collection. If you are registered with the parish you should have received a letter from Fr. Vinnie and Pledge card in the mail. If you did not receive a letter you can pick one up at the back of the church. This year s Grand Annual Collection goal is $119,000 which has increased by $40,000 to help finance needed repairs to the buildings and grounds. Please prayerfully consider donating to this year s collection so that we can continue to provide a safe and warm place for families to worship and grow in their relationship with God. 4 What s Happening at OLOS Coffee Hour Hosts: November 6th: Hosted by Pre-K class November 13th: Adult Education/ Faith Formation Commission Presentation by Catherine Cornille November 20th: ADVENT WORKSHOP Hosted by OLOS Staff November 27: Hosted by Liturgy Commission Adult Faith Formation Program Sunday, November 13, O Connell Hall (during coffee hour) Topic: "Women Deaconesses: Lessons from the Early Church" Speaker: Catherine Cornille, Newton College Alumnae Chair, Professor of Comparative Theology, Boston College. Pope Francis has decided to institute a Commission for the Study of the Diaconate of Women. We will explore this further with an understanding of women s role as Deaconesses in the early Church. Catherine Cornille, a parishioner at OLOS, will prepare a short presentation allowing time for your thoughts and questions during our coffee hour. Child care services will be offered in the Bullock Center during the presentation. Middle School Early Release Party: All middle school students are invited to spend their afternoon off from school at OLOS Middle School gathering on Tuesday, November 15th from 11:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be all the usual Middle School Youth Night fun -- ping-pong and foosball and air hockey and other games -- plus some additional Thanksgiving themed surprises. As always, all are welcome, so feel free to bring friends. Please also plan to bring your own lunch; we ll provide beverages and dessert! Advent Workshop: Our annual Advent Workshop is quickly approaching! The workshop will be held on Sunday, November 20th from 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. Adult and middle school volunteers are needed to offer a variety of Advent activities, including making Advent wreaths, face painting, and other crafts. To sign-up visit and click on the Sign up to Serve link on the left side column. Volunteers are also asked to attend a set-up and practice session on Saturday, November 19th from 11:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. All parishioners and their families are invited to attend this fun and meaningful event to kick off this important season within our liturgical year. Saturday, November 5th there was a funeral service for Margaret Nelson at 11am. Please pray for her family and friends as they grieve her loss. 5 Sharon, MA Our Lady of Sorrows Parish From Senior Deacon Mike: The liturgical year is rushing to the end. The next few weeks will focus on Luke s account of the end time. That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called out Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive. Worldwide Marriage Encounter But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. Let us strengthen our marriages in faithfulness by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend. The next WWME Weekends are Dec 2-4, 2016 in Duxbury, MA and Jan 20-22, 2017 in Duxbury, MA. (STM professor of historical and liturgical theology) TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 5:30 P.M. CORCORAN COMMONS, HEIGHTS ROOM CHESTNUT HILL CAMPUS A second century theologian, Ignatius of Antioch, referred to the Eucharist as the medicine of immortality. This presentation explores the Eucharist as the source and energy of our true life in Christ; as medicine for the field hospital which is the Church (Pope Francis). To register go to 32 nd Sunday in Ordinary Time A near-by day care center often takes the kids out for a walk around the neighborhood. It looks like a small human train as each kid holds on to a long rope that connects them altogether. As they walk along, they call out warnings to their friends: car! curb! puddle! oops! They look around as they walk, staring at people or signs, bumping into each other and sometimes tripping over themselves! No one can help but smile at the little engines that could! Our family ties help us navigate through life. We hold on to the love and memories we share; we depend on each other for warnings and support; we offer help and hope so everyone makes the journey of life safely. Families are not always perfect, and at times, things are not ideal. But that does not prevent us from reaching out to others, especially those who have no one, those who have been abandoned or lost. In the holidays ahead, everyone is willing to help others, but it is a short-lived desire and often distant at best. Beat the rush! Start now to offer healing and hope, to support and comfort, to notice the pain and suffering of others. It s all about sticking together, hanging on to the rope of faith, hope and love.
