2 Pope Francis Lecture Series Our Lecture Series, Pope Francis: His Travels and His Writings was well attended last Saturday evening. Parishioners enjoyed hearing from Fr. Clooney, SJ and Joe Favazza about the Pope s recent trip to the United States, his call for dialogue and his consistent inconsistencies. The Series will continue on November 14, focusing on the environmental encyclical Laudato Si, and December 12, kicking off the Jubilee Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis. Fr. Clooney, SJ will preside at the 4:30 p.m. liturgies and then lead the presentations each evening. Please join us for thoughtful presentations and lively conversation. Fr. Altar Servers add to the solemnity of the Mass and make it an offering that includes all generations. It provides an opportunity for children to have a visible role in the parish community as they help to lead the worship. The Ministry of Altar Serving gives children an opportunity to express their spirituality and find out more about our faith. It is an important avenue for our young to become involved in the spiritual life of the Church and to understand the reward of serving others and their community. Who can be an Altar Server? Any boy or girl who has received his or her First Communion. The commitment is usually once a month. Come and check it out! While recovering from a childhood illness, she was inspired to become a nun and eventually was allowed to enter a Carmelite convent at the age of twenty. St. Theresa found the convent s attitude toward poverty and solitude somewhat relaxed, so after twenty five years she founded a new convent. During her lifetime, sixteen convents of Reformed Carmelites were established. St. Theresa wrote many books including her autobiography and books focusing on the importance of prayer and reflection. She died soon after the establishment of her last foundation at the age of sixty seven. In 1970, St Theresa became the first female saint to be declared a doctor of the church. October 11, 2015

We will celebrate our annual Advent Workshop the morning of Sunday, November 22. If you can help plan our Workshop by offering your creative craft ideas or helping to prepare supplies or by helping out the day of the Workshop, please contact Monica LaFond at by October 25. Music Director Search Update We have recently posted a job description for the open Music Director position in several publications and on websites as well. At press time for the bulletin, several applications have already been received and are being evaluated. We will continue updates as more information is available. RCAB Office of Risk Management Offers ServSafe Training Fr. Vinnie is very excited to begin planning (already) for a Christmas Pageant at this year s upcoming 5 pm Christmas Eve Liturgy. Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time The Office of Risk Management is offering a ServSafe Food Manager Certification class for staff and volunteers from our parishes, schools and institutions that serve food. The course is open to all who want to be certified for the first time, and for those who need to renew their certification. The ORM highly recommends that at least one person involved in food preparation at your location be certified in safe food handling. What: ServSafe Food Manager Certification Course When: November 10, 2015, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, including lunch Where: Pastoral Center, 66 Brooks Drive, Braintree, MA A ServSafe instructor will prepare you to take the nationally recognized ServSafe exam in this engaging and highly effective one-day class. The class will cover: Safe food-handling procedures throughout the flow of food (HACCP controls) Personal hygiene, cross-contamination, timetemperature controls, allergens The cost of instruction is free for participants and lunch is provided. Participants are, however, responsible for the cost of the course book and exam - a total of $75. Once you register, we will give you information about purchasing your book, which will be mailed to you in advance of the class. Registration Please register by October 28 to have enough time to order and receive the course book. Life in the Spirit Seminar If you desire to grow in your faith and to live more fully in the power of the Holy Spirit, the New Jerusalem Prayer Group of St. Timothyʼs Parish in Norwood, invites you to attend the Life in the Spirit Seminar series, beginning October 1 and running 7 consecutive Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. St. Timothyʼs is located at 650 Nichols St., Norwood MA. Knights of Columbus Coffee Hour and Membership Drive The Knights of Columbus will be hosting the coffee hour on October 18 after the 10:45 Mass in O Connell Hall. They will be conducting their annual Membership Drive at this time. Please come to the coffee hour and learn more about the Knights of Columbus and their mission. Collection October 4 The average cost to run the parish is $11,732 per week and our expectation is that 69% ($8,095) will come from the weekly offertory. On October 4, the parishioners contributed $7,584. World Mission Sunday Next week s second collection supports Catholic World Missions. By Baptism, all Catholics are called to participate in the mission of the Church and share their faith as missionaries. World Mission Sunday gathers support for the pastoral and evangelizing programs and needs of more than 1,150 mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America. The funds gathered on World mission Sunday are distributed in the pope s name by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith a Pontifical Mission Society. Please visit for more information. Trick or Treat 5K Walk/Run The McGourty Family will be hosting the 6 th Annual MILES FOR LIAM Walk/Run on Saturday, October 24, beginning and ending at the Norwood Knights of Columbus Hall. Registration starts at 9 a.m.; 5K starts at 10 a.m. Liam is a member of our community who received his First Eucharist last May. The Walk/Run takes place each year as a fundraiser to help end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a condition from which Liam suffers. Besides running or walking, there are many other ways to participate including becoming a sponsor or donating a prize.
