1 The Heart Beat Ever since Blessed Alan de la Roche re-established this devotion, the voice of the people, which is the voice of God, gave it the name of the Rosary, which means "crown of roses." That is to say that every time people say the Rosary devoutly they place on the heads of Jesus and Mary 153 white roses and sixteen red roses. Being heavenly flowers, these roses will never fade or lose their beauty. Our Lady has approved and confirmed this name of the Rosary; she has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose, and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. So the complete Rosary is a large crown of roses and each chaplet of five decades is a little wreath of flowers or a little crown of heavenly roses which we place on the heads of Jesus and Mary. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of devotions and the most important one. A very special thank you Julie Miller for leading our community each Sunday morning before mass to recite this beautiful devotion. Also, our young ones in CCD have been reciting the rosary before their classes begin. Thank You to Pat Staten, Rose Ledger, Debra Santers for the delicious brunch served after the Sunday morning mass. Also, to those who added a dish to make our brunch so special. Thank you to those who continue to put money in our Hands Box. This money is used to replenish our paper supplies used for all the functions in the social hall. Thank you always for your continued generosity to Sacred Heart CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPES. There are still boxes on the table at the back of the church. Your name is printed on the boxes. If you do not see a box with your name please let Debby know and she will prepare a box for you. Also, there s a sheet to complete if any of your information has changed. A Word of Thanks to Eagle Distributing Company in Huntington, West Virginia for their continued support for our Sacred Heart Parish. Nick Williams, the General Manager, has been so generous to allow Sacred Heart s Bulletin and Heart Beat to be printed each week at Mingo Distributing Company. The cost of the printing alone would be a great burden on our church, and we are indeed grateful for their generosity. Sacred Heart welcomed home from the Philippines Dr. Kenneth. He visited his family and friends over the holidays. Now, the Restar family (Lee, MJ, Merielle, Liam, and Jameson) and Tampoya family (Aurora and Manola) are now enjoying their family and friends in the Philippines. Your Sacred Heart Family is so happy that you are able to return to your homeland and enjoy reuniting with loved ones. We are enjoying their pictures on Face Book. Safe travels! PLEASE NOTE the request in the bulletin for soft drinks and bottled water. Our last request was made last summer for drinks for the King Coal Festival. Our response was fantastic! Our supply carried through the holidays. We appreciate your continued support and generosities! 2017 is almost here! The Lenten Season is almost here (39 days from today)! We need EVERYONES HELP with this time of preparation, study, and prayer. There are many scheduled events for the Season of Lent; Mardi Gras Dinner and Pot Luck Dinner. Games, prizes, bingo, and much more will be planned. Ash Wednesday (March 1s ) will begin our season of Lent with Sacred Heart hosting the first of six Ministerial Services followed by a luncheon in our social hall. This service hosts the many churches in our community. Holy Mass Stations of the Cross Friday s sponsors for the Meager Meal after Mass and Stations, Palm Sunday. Many events are scheduled for Holy Week; Holy Thursday, The Altar of Repose, Good Friday, Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday Holy Mass Reception, Children s Easter Egg Hunt and Celebration/Reception after Easter Holy Mass. Ladies, please try to attend the LAS meeting next Sunday, January 29th after the Sunday Brunch! There is so much behind the scenes work that makes our events so successful during Lent. Janie will have a complete listing of all the scheduled events; the dates, the times, the sponsors for the meager meals after each Fridays Stations of the Cross, and all the other events and will publish in the Heart Beat. Lent is later this year. WE NEED EVERYONE S SUPPORT AND HELP!

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
