1 Prelude Festive Trumpet Tune David German Announcements GATHERING Greeting (Pastor) Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. (People) Hosanna in the highest. Processional Gospel Matthew 21:1-11 The holy gospel according to St. Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. (The Processional Gospel is read) The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Blessing of the Palms (Please raise and wave your palm branches in the air.) The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. A brief silence is kept. We praise you, O God, for redeeming the world through our Savior Jesus Christ. Today he entered the holy city in triumph and was proclaimed messiah and king by those who spread garments and branches along his way. Bless these branches and those who carry them. Grant us grace to follow our Lord in the way of the cross, so that, joined to his death and resurrection, we enter into life with you; through the same Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Procession Let us go forth in peace, in the name of Christ. Amen. Procession Hymn All Glory, Laud, and Honor Hymn No. 344 Refrain All glory, laud, and honor to you, redeemer, king, to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring. 1) You are the king of Israel and David s royal Son, now in the Lord s name coming, our King and Blessed One. Refrain 2) The company of angels is praising you on high; creation and all mortals in chorus make reply. Refrain 3) The multitude of pilgrims with palms before you went. Our praise and prayer and anthems before you we present. Refrain 4) To you, before your passion, they sang their hymns of praise. To you, now high exalted, our melody we raise. Refrain 5) Their praises you accepted; accept the prayers we bring, great author of all goodness, O good and gracious King. Refrain

5 Today's liturgy begins with a palm procession, commemorating Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Quickly the tone of the service changes as we meditate upon Jesus' passion and death. Because this story is so central to our faith, we hear Matthew's account of the passion today and John's version on Good Friday. Though Jesus is obedient even unto death on the cross, he is exalted by God. We gather to remember his offering for the life of the world, and to be fed by his life-giving mercy. This holy week will culminate in the celebration of the Three Days of Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection. In Sympathy Our sympathy and prayers are extended to Dennis and Sharon Polack on the death of Dennis daughter, Denise Wallace, to Karen Tyykila, Rondald Kroll, Janelle and John Schowalter, Danielle Zimmer and Paul Schowalter on the death of mother, grandmother and great grandmother Zelda Maki. New Member Class Scheduled and Reception of New Members The next new member class will be held Thursday, May 1, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (If you would prefer to come that day to a class held from 10 a.m.-12 noon please contact the church office at ) Reception of new members will be the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18. (Exact service times will be discussed and selected during our class sessions.) For more information, or if you have questions or are interested in joining MPLC, please contact the church office at or see one of the pastors. Altar Flowers The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God by Marv Osenga, and family, in loving memory of Charlotte Osenga who joined the heavenly choir of angels five years ago today. The flowers on the organ are given to the glory of God by the Luehr Family in celebration of Travis 14 th Birthday. Quarterly Statements Quarterly statements are in your narthex mailboxes. Please help us save on postage costs and pick yours up today. Thank you.
