2 April 13, 2019 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: For 800 years the Franciscans have ministered to the faithful in the Holy Land as well as living in and caring for the places where Jesus and His Blessed Mother lived and walked. A blessed tradition for most pilgrims is to walk the Via Dolorosa on Good Friday. On Friday, April 19, many will commemorate the Via Crucis, Christ s Way of the Cross, and take part in Passion services at their local parish. The wars, unrest and instability in and around the Holy Land have been especially hard on Christians. In many ways they walk the Way of the Cross daily, and the Franciscans of the Holy Land accompany them in their struggle. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides desperately needed assistance and funding for those who have lost everything. When you contribute to the collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. Your generosity supports housing needs, refugee resettlement, food programs, education, and the maintenance of over 54 shrines in the Holy Land.
