The end of June for the picnic as a kick-off for Totus Tuus seemed to work well. I got to mingle with several people and met some new people. Totus Tuus was also well attended. The excitement continues to build even into its third year at St. Jude. We thank the missionary team Blaise, Colin, Grace, & Isabel for visiting our parish and witnessing the faith to our youth. All of this would not have been possible had not been for a key organizer leading the charge with her team Syndi Larez. We thank Syndi an d her team for the planning and hard work that went into these events. 2ND ANNUAL SURGE SUNDAY Next weekend we will be taking our SURGE SUN- DAY collection. Once again, as the End of Fiscal Year letter stated, the Surge Sunday effort gives an opportunity for families to catch-up, if they have fallen behind in their stewardship pledge commitment. With summer vacations, outings and ball games people are out-oftown a lot and the collection plate diminishes but the bills to the parish and school do not. With the Surge Sunday collection, we get a jump on all the up-coming back-to-school commitments. If you fall behind consistently, I encourage you to make arrangements with you bank for auto cash? The best practice for Biblical tithing is to write your first check from your paycheck to St. Jude. Pay God first, before anything else. You will see that God has your back. 3 13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 1, Parish Happenings THE OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 4. Thursday, July 5: Parish Council will meet at 6:30pm in St. Theresa s Room. Saturday, July 7: St. Jude Baptismal Class will be at 10 AM in St. Theresa's room. To register please call Mary at Pre-registration is required. If no one registers there will be no class. Have you considered using your bank s online bill pay service to make your tithe payments? It is a simple and convenient way to set up recurring payments at selected intervals. If you are not using the pre-printed offering envelopes, please contact the church office to have your name taken off the envelope mailing list. St. Jude School Final Registration is Tuesday, August 7th from 8am-1pm and 2-5pm. All unpaid fees are due at this time. You must be active stewards to the parish. You are asked to tithe 8% of your income. Kindergarten Parents: students MUST have a KCI (Kansas Certificate of Immunization) to start school. No student will be able to start school without a current KCI. Please take time to fill out the forms for free and reduced lunches. They will be available with Mrs. McKinney & Mrs. Thomas. We can get government rebates to help our school based on the number eligible. If you would like to donate used uniforms, you may drop them off in the office before July 25th. If you will be out of town for registration, please give Mrs. Perez a call at St. Jude's Church would like to thank Chris, the manager at Johnson's Garden Center on West 13th Street. He has been very supportive of Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Garden. Johnson's Garden Center donated four large red crepe myrtle bushes for the north area of the grotto. More News Spiritual Life Center Programs: SERIES: HOW TO READ THE BIBLE- Three Thursdays starting July 5; 7-8:30 p.m. We understand we "should" read the Bible, but where do we start? How does God speak to us today through these ancient words? This series will give participants the confidence to read the bible and pray along with it. $25 A SILENT RETREAT: THE CARTHUSIAN EXPERIENCE- Friday, July 6 through Sunday, July 8. During the days of this silent retreat we will follow the manner of life of the Carthusians. This will not be a preached or conference retreat, rather a silent retreat allowing space for our Lord to speak individually to us. Individual spiritual direction, as well as opportunity for the Sacrament of Confession, the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, will be provided. Regular retreat pricing applies. Space is limited. RETREAT: RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SON Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15. This weekend retreat takes participants into one of the most popular parables. The retreat is designed to help a person respond to a merciful Father: a Father who waits for us and runs to meet us where we are. It will be a retreat of healing and reconciliation. Baptisms You must take the Baptismal preparation class prior to the baptism of your first baby. Baptisms normally held after one of the weekend Masses. Marriages Please consult Father at least nine months before any date being considered for the wedding ceremony. Communion to the Sick Please notify Father. Communion usually taken on Second Friday a.m. and on Sundays after 8:30 a.m. Mass. Anointing of the Sick Please notify Father if there is serious illness or danger of death or if surgery is planned so that you may receive beforehand the anointing and prayer for healing and strength. As we recall these historic words, remind us that equal does not mean the same, for you have made us all unique. Rather, may we always remember that we are equal in value and dignity before you, and that all are deserving of the rights that you have so freely given us.
