REPORTER At the special congregational meeting on February 25th we voted to call Linda Anderson-Little to be our new pastor. Linda comes to St. Luke s with twenty years of ordained experience.

She is a dynamic worship leader and preacher, served as guest speaker at Synod and regional events, and has led several women s retreats.

Linda is pursuing her interest in spirituality by working toward a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis which she will complete this spring.

1 REPORTER At the special congregational meeting on February 25th we voted to call Linda Anderson-Little to be our new pastor. Linda comes to St. Luke s with twenty years of ordained experience. She has served inner-city, urban, and suburban congregations in Detroit, Kansas City and St. Louis before relocating to Frisco, Texas this fall. She is a dynamic worship leader and preacher, served as guest speaker at Synod and regional events, and has led several women s retreats. She has helped each congregation she served grow in numbers, outreach, and faith. Linda is pursuing her interest in spirituality by working toward a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis which she will complete this spring. When she s not working, studying, writing, or offering spiritual direction, Linda enjoys movies, travel, and nature walks. Pastor Linda will begin her ministry with us on March 15th. There will be a reception thanking Pastor Mary Kaiser for her interim time with us following worship on March 4th. This will be her last Sunday with us. Come and wish her happy re-retirement! Midweek Services Continue Our Lenten midweek services continue each Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. preceded by a soup supper at 6 p.m. The theme for our Wednesday services is Change in Our Lives. The themes for the March services are: March 7: Change of Circumstances March 14: Change of Heart March 21: Change of Plans

The visit by candidate Pastor Linda was already being planned. Dick Miner died and many of you helped prepare a reception so that we could have his Memorial Service on Saturday morning.

2 As I write this on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 25), my heart is full. - Full of joy as you call your new pastor, Pastor Linda Anderson-Little. - Full of gratitude for this 1 1/2 years with you as your Interim Pastor. I am especially grateful for how people pulled together again this week for a very busy Saturday. The visit by candidate Pastor Linda was already being planned. Doug and I have enjoyed being at St. Luke s with you and thank you for your love and support. Next Sunday, March 4, will be my last Sunday and I will work through the end of next week. We are asking people who wear the robes not to eat or drink while wearing them. There were many food and drink spots that needed to be removed. Thanks Beverly for a much needed job. Thanks also to Jerry Zimmerman who fixed the leak in the roof over the sanctuary. With all the rain we had last week, the sanctuary has remained dry! Thanks Jerry! 2

The men s breakfast will be held on March 24th at the Hilton Garden Inn on 190 just east of Waterview Drive at 8:30 a.m. The Social Seniors are planning to attend a 1:30 Productions presentation of a comedy, The Nightingales, by Peter Quilter on Friday, March 16th at the Bath House Cultural Center.

Our group rate for a ticket is $12, payable to Shirley Brouillette. We will carpool from the church at 12:15 p.m. Call Shirley, 972-596-8640 or Ursula Peters, 972-231-3103 for further information.

4 Women of St. Luke s The March Bible study for Mary Ruth and Rebekah circles continues with the third of four sessions entitled The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) by Mark Allan Powell, a professor of New Testament at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. In this session, he will share how this parable has impacted culture, including cultures different from our own. The study may be found on page 20 of the March Gather magazine or may be downloaded at gathermagazine.org. The Leader s guide follows the lesson. MARCH ACTIVITIES March 3 (Saturday): Quilting Bee, 9:00am in the Gathering Area Please bring a salad to share for the luncheon. All women are invited for great fun and fellowship as work is done on items for Lutheran World Relief. A quilt dedication will be held on Sunday, March 4th. March 10 (Saturday): 9:30am Sarah Circle meets in the Church Conference Room. Their lesson will be the first of three sessions entitled Paul s Journey s from the Thoughtful Christian. Written by David Otto, a Professor of Religious Studies at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, the study attempts to blend the itineraries found in Acts with Paul s own words, noting the conflicts when they occur. Study Leader is Shella Groom. March 13 (Tuesday): 10:00am - Mary Ruth Circle will meet at church in the adult classroom. 5 Booksome Ladies The Booksome Ladies will meet in the Conrad Library at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21st. Our book for discussion is Wonder, the debut novel by R. J. Palacio. It is written from the perspective of ten-year-old August Pullman, a youngster born with a severe facial deformity, which has prevented him from going to a mainstream school until now. He is about to enter fifth grade at Beecher Prep and will be the new kid in his grade. After twenty-seven surgeries, Auggie still is odd looking, though he knows that in reality he is just an ordinary boy. Naturally, he has a difficult time making and keeping friends and generally he is not well accepted though the school principal, teachers, and staff are very thoughtful and kind to him. His Mom, Dad, older sister Via, and his dog Daisy help him to know he is loved and encourage him in many ways. This novel is filled with the kind of humor kids enjoy, and some incidents that will bring tears to your eyes. Originally written for children and young readers, this book has become a favorite of all age groups, has won many awards, and is being made into a movie. This wonderfully written story will touch your heart with compassion for all youngsters who are considered different. Don t miss it! The Heart of Texas (HOT) Conference is pleased to host this event in Temple on April As a conference, we are well aware that God continues to transform us into a new creation. God is transforming our families and our communities and our Synod. St. Luke s will be sending two voting members, Eileen Larsen and Dianne Plumb to the assembly as well as Pastor Linda. Lenten Devotions: we have purchased special devotional booklets for Lent called Free Indeed. They are on the table in the narthex. 5
