2 Lenten Thoughts God is infinite mercy. He forgave David his adultery and murder. He forgave the greedy tax collector who was a traitor and He forgave the criminal on the cross. But there is, however, something that makes it impossible for God s mercy to be poured out and something that God detests within you that is your unwavering, absolute seriousness; that you believe that you are someone important. Seeing this, it is as though God makes a gesture of spreading his hands out in helplessness. God finds your feeling of importance funny and absurd. He who is enthroned in heaven laughs (Psalm 2:4). If you look at yourself in the light of faith then you will see that all of your pretense of absolute seriousness and esteem are truly funny. The feeling of selfimportance is opposed to a large degree by the virtue of humour. It turns out to be very useful for the growth of our faith which is seeing the world in the proper light and with the correct sense of proportion. Humour is seeing the world on the axis of absurdity and nonsense. Fr. Tadeusz Dajczer, Archdiocese of Warsaw, Poland St. Joseph Medal The Archdiocese of Hartford s St. Joseph Medal was established by Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin in the waning days of his Episcopacy in Hartford. St. Joseph is the Patron Saint of the Archdiocese of Hartford as Pope Gregory XVI erected the Diocese on March 19, Of course, March 19th is the Solemnity of St. Joseph. The medal is the highest honor of the Archdiocese of Hartford and is conferred upon one who has given much to his/her parish. The recipient must be 55 years of age or older and have belonged to the parish many years, while giving time and talent to the parish. No present employee of the parish can be nominated. The Pastor only chooses the recipient inpecctore, (Latin for: in or close to the chest. The best translation in English would be: holding the cards closely, in other words, telling no one until the Archbishop accepts the nominee.) I am happy to announce that Mrs. Ruth Romajas is the 2019 recipient of the St. Joseph Medal. Ruth has been secretary, Coordinator of Religious Education and bookkeeper for more than 25 years. In those positions she has offered countless extra hours, plus helping in other aspects of the parish. Conferral of the Medal will take place at the Cathedral of St. Joseph on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. without a Mass. It is only a ceremony. Everyone is invited to the Cathedral on that afternoon. St. Aloysius Parish Welcomes our new Deacon, Wayne Griffin With heartfelt warmth we welcome Deacon Wayne Griffin home to St. Aloysius Church, where he was baptized, received First Holy Communion, Confirmation and was married to his wife Delores by Father Siegal.
