3 T S O T Preparations have begun in view of the eventual synod called for by Archbishop Blair for the Archdiocese of Hartford. Synods, a word from the Greek which means an assembly, are called in the Church to discuss questions of doctrine and governance. To assist our Archbishop in governing and to apprise him of the state of the Archdiocese, listening sessions have been scheduled or have already taken place throughout the Archdiocese among various clergy and even the lay faithful. To afford individuals an opportunity to have an input in the process of formulating an agenda for discussion, I extend an invitation to members of our parish to a meeting to be held in the parish hall on Saturday, November 3rd following the 5 o clock Mass. The questions to be addressed fall into three categories: (1) What is the Archdiocese doing well, (2) What is the Archdiocese doing, perhaps not so well, and (3) What could the Archdiocese be doing which it is not doing now? THANKSGIVING MEAL PRO- GRAM Mary Our Queen parishioners have been extremely generous in past years, in helping to supply Thanksgiving meals and gift cards for purchase of turkeys, for families in need in our community. This season we hope to make it easier and more convenientfor more parishioners to get involved. With a donation of $40, either cash or checks madepayable to Friends of Southington Community Services,you can help provide an entire Thanksgiving meal for a family. If you choose to participate, please see Robin Taillie at the parking lot entrance for details. All donations should be returned in the given envelope by Sunday, November 4 th in order that foods can be purchased to assemble the Thanksgiving baskets in time for the holiday. All questions, please contact Robin at rtaillie@cox.net or Men s Retreat Date: November 2nd ~ 4th Join Holy Family s retreat for a weekend of peace and reflection on how God has called all of us to lives of holiness. We will explore ways that we can be attentive, intentional, and cooperative with God s grace in serving the world. The retreat includes: home-cooked meals, inspirational liturgies, uplifting music, free time, and workshops. The retreat begins with dinner at 6:00pm. On Friday evening and concludes with Mass and a Sunday brunch at noon. You can call Jim Feltz at with questions, visit or call Holy Family Passionate Retreat Center, West Hartford, CT at Dignity of Life Seminar The Church of Mary, Our Queen along with The Catholic Cemetery Association will be hosting a presentation focused on educating our Parish families about the challenges facing practically every family: Maintaining the dignity of life during endoflife decisions. The Catholic Cemeteries Association will conduct the Seminar with the assistance of an Elder Care Attorney, and Funeral Director. They will answer questions on how to manage these elements of the golden years. All are welcome to attend. The seminar should take about an hour and 30 minutes. Refreshments will be served.
