2 The Pastor s Patch Next weekend, August 11-12, 2018 our Parish Missionary will be with us. He is a member of the Society of African Missions. We welcome Fr. Rejkumar Manchala. Below is an explanation of their work. The Society is a missionary congregation founded in 1856 in France, with over 745 priests from all over the world. Its main mission is to work with the people of Africa and the people of African origins. They work in the following areas: Youth self-help Projects: After high school education or college education, the youth go through the hardship of living without employment. Basic self-care becomes a great challenge. No hope is imaginable except for selfemployment. The donation given will be used to buy farming equipment and materials for dry season farming. During this season there is a high demand for groceries caused by the lack of rain. This project will benefit many youths; helping them to avoid idleness that exposes them to the manipulation of politicians. Through small scale entrepreneurship, the youth can join the chain of production and also reap some benefits for self-care. Among the challenges of our town parishes are the growing number of widows who have to provide for their children. Young men who were to be good husbands die early because of wars, accidents, drugs etc. with this at hand, various churches in which our community members are working, are grouping the widows into various teams to learn skills like sewing, weaving and small business to assist them find a better life. Small loans are given to those who open a small business. Intrapreneurs are invited to teach them skills. With the help of your donation, equipment like sewing, knitting machines and materials are purchased. This is an effort to relieve widows of the stress of parenting with very little or totally no income. One of our school initiatives has been to set up a program on professional training for teachers. This aims at training the teachers with skills for meaningful and fruitful teaching to help the children learn to acquire necessary ways to live responsibly. This training is done during the summer holidays. Donations will be used to support and ensure reevaluation of the activities by the end of each academic year. This program also provides for strengthening parent, teacher, community engagement and renewing focus on the aims and visions of the schools. Please be generous to those in the missions who desperately need our help. May God s blessings be yours. Mass at The Holy Land Waterbury, Ct. Archbishop Leonard P. To most of you this seems to be a new policy. In fact, the directive has come to us about 8 years ago. We cannot take Mass offerings for 2019 until 2018 Offerings are received. The Mass Offerings for 2019 will be ear-marked, and placed in the Operating Fund, so that your checks will clear, and you will be able to balance your personal books. True, but not for a pastor. There is so much preparation for the coming year, etc., etc. by Archdiocesan policy, priests are granted an overnight. This is my 3rd pastorate and I have found that I (personally) can only take one day instead of two. I have no problem with this. During the summer months I accumulate that one day and take a Monday through Friday (5 days). For the month of July I will be out from July and August There will not be a daily Mass on those days. You are invited to go to any of the four Catholic Churches in the area. As Always, Fr. Ron Picnic News This year s Parish Picnic takes place on Sunday, September 9, 2018 after the 10:30 a.m. Mass.
