Sec. / PGK - St. Jude Council, 6617, Plaistow NH Prayer Request PGK Randy McClellan From DD David DeJulio I received the following from Randy McClellan's wife Anne. From Annie: Randy could use some serious prayer warriors. He is in critical condition in intensive care at MGH. He is sedated and on a ventilator. He has swelling in his heart with very low blood pressure and an infection in his lungs. Doctors believe he could have a clot in one of his lungs also. His kidneys have taken a beating from diabetes and the anti-rejection drugs so he is on dialysis to slow the damage to them. They have not yet determined the cause of the infection yet. Sadly, they have indicated that he is the sickest patients in that ICU. Please keep praying for him. He is a strong man, but much stronger with his parish family bombarding Heaven on his behalf. Thank you all for your support. Peace in Christ, -Annie McClellan. Fraternally, Joel Ackerman State Youth Director C) State Youth Director Mission Statement It is vitally important for our members to have a good grasp of why our focus on Youth is key to the future of our program. Below provides a good summary of why we must focus on Youth activities/programs at the Council level. We need to make Youth activities/events a key piece of our DNA and culture within the Knights. Best summed up as the following: Today s youth are looking for challenges, for responsibility, for Faith, and trust. Yet despite their commitment and dedication, youth of the world are often condemned because of uncontrolled actions of a minority of young people. As Knights of Columbus, it is our responsibility to provide our youth the means and the opportunities to become personally involved in meeting the challenges of our time. Mission The Knights of Columbus is committed to providing quality youth programs for all of the children in our neighbourhoods. Knights recognize the importance of keeping our youngsters and their families involved with our programs to ensure the future of our great Order. Therefore, the mission of the State Youth Activities Director is to: Provide academic and athletic competition for the youth of New Hampshire Promote involvement by councils with our youth Secure the future of our great Order by involving more young people and their families Get our youth involved with activities and eventually the Knights of Columbus Increase youth related programs in councils Publicize youth programs in the State Council Newsletter and web site. Working with the State Council Activities Director to publicize youth activities in our local paper, radio and television. 8 From: Jim Preisendorfer Sent: Monday, December 15, :06 PM Subject: How to make an awesome confession Viva Jesus. God Bless, Jim <>< My Brother Knights, please put this article in your respective publications. My Brother Knights I had just read this before going to confession last week and it really helped me to think of my sins before entering the confessional. How to Make an Awesome Confession By Fr. Josh Miller Everybody s looking to improve their game, right? Well, after hearing thousands and thousands of confessions, I thought I d craft a post on how you can make your next confession even better. I should note before I begin that every confession is great, and that there s no such thing as a bad confession as long as you ve come to the Sacrament with a contrite heart. So if you read these tips and think to yourself, I ve been making some bad confessions!, fear not: it s pretty hard to do, unless you don t take any of it seriously. I should also note that the first tip largely assume you re in a confessional box a sin bin, as I call it at a designated time, standing in line and waiting for your turn. There is at least one other way to make an awesome confession, which I address near the end of this post. Tip #1 The Devil s In the Details The awesome confessions I hear begin something like this: Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It has been two weeks since my last confession. I accuse myself of the following: I lied twice, I hosted uncharitable thoughts against my neighbor six times, and I have failed on numerous occasions to be charitable to my husband Page 8 of 16

9 What s lacking here is the word indeed, even the sentiment of the word because. Whenever you confess, the reasons for your failures aren t pertinent to your confession. However, they are pertinent to the spiritual life; sin, like any other imperfect thought, any other emotion we have, should prompt rational discourse. The because matters to us because the ultimate aim is growth in holiness, which is only obtainable if we understand the reasons behind our failure. Strictly speaking, however, the because is not important within the context of confession. In fact, I d even venture so far as to say that the because is potentially harmful in confession. When we discuss how we lack charity towards a neighbor, for example, the tendency is to exonerate ourselves, or to lessen our own culpability somehow: I lacked charity towards my neighbor because it s just so hard to get along with them when they keep their yard looking like a scene from Animal House. The tendency with humankind from the Fall forward has been to scapegoat, to create alibi: She made me do it!, says Adam. Of course, God sees through the bologna Adam tells himself. Within the context of the Sacrament with our souls laid bare, we should be on guard against the temptation to justify ourselves. Traditionally, this is known as confession by number and kind. There s something beautiful in a simplistic declaration of guilt. When we list number and kind, we say, I did this! and nothing else matters. We escape the temptation to feel sorry for ourselves when we courageously take responsibility for what we ve done, the details be damned literally. Tip #2: Your Sins Are Boring I m as guilty of it as you are: every one of us thinks our sins are the worst in the world. We come in and confess them with a hesitant nervousness, as if what we ve done is the worst the priest will ever hear. I know that feeling as a penitent, even when on an intellectual level I know there s nothing extraordinary about how I ve sinned. But as a priest, I also know this: sin is boring. It s humdrum. It s the most common thing in the world. There s no sin you could possibly reveal that would cause me to raise an eyebrow, or start throwing things around, or get me angry. In order to do that, I d have to turn a blind eye to my own sin, and it s always before me. Nothing you say in that confessional should cause you any anxiety to simply kick out there. I may throw out a challenge for you, but that s always in the form of encouragement rather than me being surprised or moved in any way. You know what causes my eyebrows to perk up in the confessional? Virtue. Whenever someone mentions how they ve made progress in an area, or when they note how they ve grown in a certain way, that s extraordinary. That s interesting! The point here: if you realize that your sins will make me yawn long before they re going to shock or surprise me, then you ll relax and make an awesome confession. Tip #3: Make Use Of A Guided, Spiritual Direction Confession As promised above, I thought I d talk a little bit about where Tip #1 does not necessarily apply: within the context of a guided, spiritual direction-type confession. Usually, these are not going to take place within the context of your parish s regular confession times. They re the by appointment only types, which every priest should be open to scheduling in addition to the regularly scheduled time he spends in the sin The purpose of such a confession is to solicit more feedback and spiritual help from the priest, perhaps asking him for tips or areas of guidance in one or more areas. These kinds of confessions take longer, but they re extremely helpful when we re facing some kind of spiritual impasse. These confessions allow you to go into the level of detail that just isn t possible during a regularly scheduled confession time. I find them to be personally helpful myself, and take advantage of this form with regularity. So there you have it: three simple tips to make your confessions awesome. As previously stated, every confession is a wonderful thing, but we can always hope for continued growth! Page 9 of 16

10 The Pray For Life Center Manchester NH Website: <-- lots of photos Facebook page: The Pray for Life Center, located at 27 Pennacook Street, #1, Manchester, across from Planned Parenthood, is an IRS approved non-profit 501(c)(3) organization formed in direct response to the witnessing of lost innocent human life by abortion in Manchester. It is organized and operated to promote the sanctity of human life in the public square through prayer, education, and Christian charity to all, in the hope that through God s endless mercy, hearts will turn toward life and the lives of the unborn will be spared. Donations can be sent to: Pray For Life Center, 12 Royal Range Road, Sandown, New Hampshire Contact Cathy Kelley at or send an to prayforlifecenter@gmail.com for more information. Pray For Life Center is open all day on Thursdays (the day in which lives are lost by surgical abortion at Planned Parenthood). For those who cannot walk in vigil outside Planned Parenthood, you are welcome to pray for the unborn, their parents, and the Planned Parenthood staff in our prayer room chapel. Update on Pennacook St December 10, 2014 New Woman Abortionist from Massachusetts Seems we have a new woman abortionist from Massachusetts. She arrived at 8:30am and as usual had "patients" waiting. We tried to talk to a young girl as she hurried into Planned Parenthood and did get to speak to her on her return trip. She was inside a short time and then quickly walked down Pennacook Street. When she returned about thirty minutes later, she said she was there for the "pill" Plan B (also known as the morning after pill). It should be taken within 72 hours after sexual intercourse, to prevent or terminate a pregnancy. PP charges $30.00 for Plan B. At 2:00pm a couple in a van parked in PP's lot. They stayed in the van and the man could be seen talking on his cell phone. After 20 minutes they started to drive away but stopped to tell the people praying the reason they were at PP. He said they were new to the area. He has to work and they have no one to care for their toddler while his wife would be in the hospital having the new baby. He had been talking on the phone with his sister and she offered to help, so they decided against the abortion and will have the baby. It is truly sad to hear the reasons people have for getting an abortion. There are so many people and organizations willing to assist families experiencing difficulties due to unexpected pregnancies. Keep praying for Sarah. She has decided to keep her baby. Cathy Petition For Cardinal Burke Cardinal Burke is a hero to so many people, especially those who are involved in the pro-life and pro-family movements, and I know that your support means a lot to him at this time. Will you now consider helping spread the word by sharing the petition with your family and friends? Our hope is that many thousands of people will sign this petition, which we will then personally present to the Cardinal in Rome. Page 10 of 16

New Hampshire Union Leader 12/12/2014, Page A02 Funding to Planned Parenthood jumps three-fold in two years Reason explained: Gov. Hassan s office said the increase offsets past budget cuts. By MARK HAYWARD New Hampshire Union Leader MANCHESTER Direct state funding to Planned Parenthood jumped more than three-fold over the last two years, an anti-abortion group claimed this week after obtaining access to financial records of the three state organization, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. New Hampshire Right to Life questioned the hefty increases and said Planned Parenthood s revenue jump could be attributed to state appropriations for family planning activities, which jumped from $345,000 in 2013to$894,000inthecurrent budget year. Page 11 of 16

12 But a spokesman for Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan said the increases offset significant budget cuts of four years ago. At the time, Republicans executive councilors voted against funding Planned Parenthood, and the Legislature made deep cuts to appropriations for family planning. Moving forward, the governor will continue to work across the aisle to ensure that women and families have access to the important health services that are critical to the economic security and vitality of our families, said Hassan spokesman William Hinkle. Last week, New Hampshire Attorney General Joe Foster released financial documents and audits that Planned Parenthood of Northern New England filed with the Charitable Trust Unit, as required by state law. The Charitable Trust Unit had initially withheld the documents, and Right to Life had sued for access. The documents prompted Right to Life to criticize the amount of state dollars from New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont that end up in Planned Parenthood coffers. Planned Parenthood, which is active in the three states, reported state revenues of $181,000 in Right to Life said that will jump to $669,000 when books close this year. Jane Cormier, president of New Hampshire Right to Life, said state money is being used to subsidize the abortion industry, and the increases are shocking. At a time when our state budget is facing a huge deficit due to reckless overspending, how can this funding be defended? Cormier said. Cormier also expects that Medicaid payments and federal grants to Planned Parenthood will increase. For the current budget, the state earmarked $894,000 in general fund dollars for family planning efforts for each of the two years. The appropriation falls short of the $954,000 that Gov. John Lynch had funded in the early part of this decade. Hinkle called the cuts in 2011 were drastic. Access to these health services is vital to a woman s right to make her own health care decisions, which is essential to the economic health of our families, our communities and our state, he said. mhayward@unionleader.com Moving forward, the governor will continue to work across the aisle to ensure that women and families have access to the important health services that are critical to the economic security and vitality of our families.
